Should I 'lighten up' or would you be annoyed?

We live on the same road as my 3 childrens (10,9,7) school. We are directly across the road and the lollipop lady stands at our gate.

Everyone, including teachers comes past our house to get to and from school.

My husband changed the large let it snow sticker we had in our window so it says 'melon tits' on Thursday night
I didn't notice until I got home from work on Friday night. (I had some messages from people I know about it but can't check my personal phone at work. I have a work phone for emergencies)

Im not amused and I've taken it down.
He thinks it's funny and I should lighten up and put it back.

I would find it amusing for about 30 seconds , probably a lot longer if it was on someone elses house Grin

Arethechildreninbedyet · 28/11/2021 16:27

We're opposite, I'd be the one swapping the letters and find this hilarious and DH would be the one who's mortified. There's no right or wrong, only what's acceptable in your relationship.

Regardless, if you're not comfortable, he needs to respect that. Tell him not to change them again because it's embarrassed you. If he changes them after that he's a wanker.

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 28/11/2021 16:30

Oh dear God, imagine being married to some of the women on here.... Their poor men! (if they have one! I can't imagine most men staying with them tbh.)

Bet they shag in the dark, with marigolds on, and get undressed under the duvet! Grin

lljkk · 28/11/2021 16:30

I'd find it quite funny. Suitably daft & suits my black sense of humour.
Badly need humour right now.

lljkk · 28/11/2021 16:31

ps: and my DH would also be fiercely indignant & tutting if I'd made melon tits.

steff13 · 28/11/2021 16:31
@percythewitch I thought he used the e from let it for that?

Can't see to e's in melon tits!
Let it snow

Melon tits

There's only one "e" in either phrase.

LakieLady · 28/11/2021 16:33

@PhilCornwall1

It works well with cushions with letters on them in Dunelm too.

Endless fun when you are bored looking at curtains.

I do similar with mugs with letters on. Many's the time I've left shit and arse on a shelf in a shop. Mugs with "U" on are disappointingly rare though, which is kind of an inbuilt censor.

I thought "melon tits" was funny and inventive, but I have the sense of humour of a 7 year old when it comes to smut.

@Lalliella

Snigger!

YABU to have dekkies up in November!

That was my thought!!

I agree. Some people will suck the laugh out of everything just so they can have a dig
NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/11/2021 16:35

Sometimes you need to divert the attention of bored adult males teenagers with a puerile sense of humour.

He leaves the public displays alone, but gets to knock himself out with a set of fridge magnets.

LakieLady · 28/11/2021 16:37

@Georgyporky

Anyone remember Fawlty Towers? The hotel sign in the opening credits was changed to Flowery Twats? I found that very funny - still do.
And one week it was Farty Towels.
Buildingthefuture · 28/11/2021 16:39

Is he 12??? I’d think he was a knob, but not get that worked up about it….so many men seem to stop mentally maturing at around 15!!!

DriftingBlue · 28/11/2021 16:41

Time and place and he missed the mark on both.

I do think a good set of letter magnets should be waiting under the tree for him. Just make sure it’s not just the plain alphabet set for kids. Far too limiting. Maybe one of those letterboard signs or even light up signs that were so trendy a couple years ago.

LakieLady · 28/11/2021 16:44

@PhilCornwall1

I guess he could have also put "SWOLEN TIT", but then the school would have been on the phone about bad spelling.

Hellolittlestar · 28/11/2021 16:48

I did not expect the vote to go YANBU way. I don’t necessarily find it funny, but it’s also not a tragedy that will scar the poor school kids forever Grin

ChateauxNeufDePoop · 28/11/2021 16:50

@Evenstar

He could go for this instead 😂
Scrolled down quickly in the hope of seeing this - kudos.
Greenmarmalade · 28/11/2021 16:50

Oh come on!! It’s funny and lighthearted

With Marigolds on eh, @GetTheFlockOutOfHere

Wow- that's actually really sexy, a bit of rubber.

(Not sure of the connection between finding a bit of smutty letter-play totally unfunny and being a bore in bed- apart from the Marigolds.)

But as we are in primary school territory as far as humour goes, I'd give you a 5/10 for trying to find a connection.

swissmodel · 28/11/2021 16:53

The world would be a much better place of people didn't get offended on other people's behalf. Your husband made a joke. You don't like it? Don't laugh. But don't get all uppity and self righteous about it.

Plutonium7000 · 28/11/2021 16:54

Melon tits is really funny!! But I'm childish.
And it's not appropriate given your location and needs to come down.

cakewench · 28/11/2021 16:54
 1. if I saw it, I'd probably laugh

 2. however, I can see why you'd find it irritating, and his attitude that you should just 'lighten up' would annoy me.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 28/11/2021 16:54

It’s sort of funny in the context of reading it on here but living opposite the school I wouldn’t have liked it!

Kettledodger · 28/11/2021 16:54

Sorry I found it childishly humorous Grin

ShinyHappyPoster · 28/11/2021 16:57

I'd be mortified if my DH did it but since it was someone else's DH, I did find it a bit funny.
I wonder if there was some context to it so he thought you or someone else would spot it earlier and change it back but then no-one noticed and he forgot.
