To be jealous of Amanda Owen (Yorkshire Shepherdess)

Her life just looks amazing. Yes obviously hard at times and not perfect. But 9 lovely children, she's gorgeous, kind husband, successful career, meaningful job and being able to spend time outdoors with her family. All the animals and space.
What I'd give for that life!

Seriously, why does this matter? There seems to be an implication that Raven is lying or someone is. If she’s studying estate management at an obscure University, what difference does it make?
There seems to be some unpleasant need to insist that Raven is stupid or a liar or the programme makers are lying. What’s that about?

Because people are jealous of this family and desperate to fixate on any perceived ‘failings’.

They, like the Strawbridges, are in danger of over exposure.(appearances on chat shows to publicise latest book etc) When they appear on Strictly Come Dancing or I'm A Celebrity ... I shall lose all respect for them. 'Quit while you're ahead' is my motto

"You can't study medicine at York St John, they don't offer it. Though I think we are off the topic a bit here.."

Biomedical Science is offered at York St John and that is what she is studying. Who cares , Raven appears a lovely, intelligent well grounded young woman.
**@PickupaPenguin8* I think for some people it does because if it were medicine it would carry some sort of prestige... rolls eyes*

But I was under the impression it was medicine? I briefly watched parts of it and I'm sure they said she'd come home from Uni for a few days or whatever during the holidays and she was a medical student?
It’s the kind of thing I’d say if I didn’t have a clue, or only had a bit of understanding about what a persons course actually entailed.

I doubt it had anything to do with prestige whatsoever and I think a person would have to have a really ugly soul to put put it down to it sounding better than biomedicine.

I agree the children do seem lovely and very well looked after. Amanda and Clive have clearly done an amazing job at parenting.

But you’d have to wonder why someone would have 9 children in this day and age. Sounds to me like she was addicted to being pregnant/having babies and is struggling with a lack of purpose now she can no longer get pregnant. Similar to Jools Oliver.
It’s a shame she didn’t direct all that energy into something else - maybe fostering or helping other kids rather than just continuing to have more of her own.

And also it just shows that nobody’s life is perfect. Even when someone seems to have it all: lovely husband, gorgeous kids, home etc. they can still feel that something is lacking.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/11/2021 21:48

Tbh if I'd found being pregnant and birthing easier than I did I would've had loads of kids. Perhaps they just wanted lots of kids?!

LivesinLondon2000 · 21/11/2021 22:09

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

But 9 kids though? That’s an awful lot of cooking, cleaning and washing
Imagine all the school admin for 9 kids too 😱
Or things like dentist’s appointments x 9 (and that’s not even including your own!).
My teenager just got braces fitted which required 4 separate trips to the orthodontist - how would you manage stuff like that with 8 other kids? There wouldn’t be enough hours in the day 😂

Hats off to Amanda though for managing it all though - she has incredible energy levels!

You just don't understand her or her life. This is a Londoncentric view

She seems to manage it ok, I bet none of the kids are food fussy either, all that lovely fresh air, bet they eat whatever is put in front of them!

Of course it isn't. What a ridiculous comment Hmm
I live in rural South Yorkshire, and having 9 children would be my idea of hell.

2bazookas · 21/11/2021 23:21

@LadyEloise1

9 children, IMO, is a bit irresponsible.
one child, or two children, is bloody irresponsible if the parent can't or won't support them financially, provide a home, love, and care and attention.

The Owens can and do give their children a great start in life.

2bazookas · 21/11/2021 23:26

No, she said Raven was studying medical science; and in the most recent episode she said Raven is just finishing university . So quite clearly, she is too young to have spent 5 years at university ( minimum length of first qualification for DR).

BalladOfBarryAndFreda

I wasn’t wild about them letting their younger dog impregnate their 10yr old bitch either. Unsurprisingly, that pup was stillborn.

As it was her first litter at age 10, presumably she'd been coming into season regularly for 9 years and kept away from male dogs, in other words, the very late pregnancy was an accident..
TheWestIsTheBest · 22/11/2021 00:32

It wouldn't be my idea of a life. My husband was brought up on a dairy farm and it's way too much hard work for my liking. Yes it has its advantages too (calves are very cute), but it wouldn't be a life I would choose. And I wouldn't want nine kids either, oh hell no! And I would hate to be stuck so far from civilisation, as one of my friends says I'm city and she is country, I prefer beach any day to hills/mountains.

LivesinLondon2000 · 22/11/2021 08:09

@derxa

Not true that it’s Londoncentric. I grew up in rural Ireland (on a farm too but dairy not sheep). No-one has large families there anymore - I’d say 3 is the norm and more than 4 children is unusual.

Kikkomam · 22/11/2021 08:10

9 children sounds really hard and very expensive. Having said that, all her kids look like they are having a fabulous healthy childhood.

WinterIcelandicPony · 22/11/2021 09:21

When I watch it I am envious of the sort of childhood they are having. We live in a town, and I have a severely autistic older child whose method of self soothing revolves around gaming. I was brought up in the country with ponies and so feel a yearning for that way of life for my children. Currently not to be, but I try my best with what I can do.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/11/2021 10:23

My dad had a sheep dog and didn't get it spayed ( wouldn't listen to me!) He got a real bollocking from the vet as she got ill when she was a similar age and needed to be spayed as an emergency. I was really surprised about a 10 year old having pups.

Twolittleducksquack · 10/06/2022 06:07

Sadly Clive and Amanda have just announced they've split. Sad news.
