Whats your thoughts on this are these people really desperate fleeing worn torn countries do you feel sorry for them etc

OP posts:
Allycott · 18/11/2021 21:24

Colonisation by the British appears to be a bad thing. Erosion of indigenous cultures and practices to make way for the new. That won't happen again will it ....

woodhill · 18/11/2021 21:28

No it isn't but they are not going to pay in for a while or earn low wages possibly.

They may need to use the NHS and be housed

Dazedandconfused28 · 18/11/2021 21:32
@tangone

Some will be skilled workers and professionals.

None of the ones coming across on the boats, across the English channel will be ''skilled workers and professionals.' You are deluded if you think this.
I worked in the camps in Dunkirk - you are very much mistaken - the majority I met were skilled workers & professionals.

Why would you assume otherwise?

Naughtynovembertree · 18/11/2021 21:33

I feel for them but I think there are many countries in the eu that ate safe and offer better life styles then the UK so it can't accept people risking dc lives when they are already in a place safe country.

However I think it's the people smugglers at fault and they should be targeted at all costs, evry resource thrown at them to put them out of business.

JunoMcDuff · 18/11/2021 21:33

@woodhill

No it isn't but they are not going to pay in for a while or earn low wages possibly.

But they're more likely to pay in their fair share than most millionaires.
JunoMcDuff · 18/11/2021 21:34

And before you say that millionaires don't use the NHS - they do. Look at Sir Alex Ferguson.

Naughtynovembertree · 18/11/2021 21:35

And I also have feel that really sorry for the people already on our system who did every thing by the book who have limited ££ because such a huge amount has to go to people arriving illegally and the people again patiently doing it the legal way again with stretched resources because such an enormous amount is taken up by illegal entrants.

Allycott · 18/11/2021 21:38

I genuinely don't know what happens to the people who enter the UK illegally - or legally for that matter. But once here and regardless of why - they need food, clothing and housing. And possibly medical treatment and maybe maternity care. Seriously - who is going to pay for this? Where is the housing going to come from? The infrastructure? Pensions? Health care? It's not that people don't care - but we hen you're slogging it out 37 hours a week till your 67 and you see people whi haven't contributed getting support SURELY you can see why it hurts!

saleorbouy · 18/11/2021 21:40

Asylum is supposed to be claimed in the first safe country you reach so that would any European country.
I feel that most of these migrants are looking to go to the U.K because it is English speaking and also the benefits and accommodation available to them.
Most are economic migrants and single males. If I was fleeing persecution I certainly would not be leaving my wife and kids behind!
There situation is unfortunate and a symptom of U.S and U.K foreign policy in the middle East where regime change has left power vacuums and persecution of the minorities.
There is a process for asylum and immigration but this is totally out of hand. I've worked on ships in the channel area and the amount of dinghies crossing is insane. It won't be long until one is mown down in the world busiest shipping lanes.

tangone · 18/11/2021 21:41

I’d imagine that people who have the stamina and determination to travel across the world in the most difficult circumstances will have the resilience to find work - particularly as there are so many vacancies in particular sectors currently. If you think that asylum seekers have an impact on food banks and poverty levels then you have a shock coming when the full effect of Brexit hits us.

Allycott · 18/11/2021 21:41

@JunoMcDuff

Yeah he's a fucking tax payer and paid his way.
woodhill · 18/11/2021 21:46

Why shouldn't he use the NHS

JunoMcDuff · 18/11/2021 21:46

Well we need to raise taxes, crack down on tax evasion and avoidance etc. Properly fund our NHS, build adequate housing, fund mental health services etc.

And no, illegal immigrants can't access any of those things other than emergency (life or death) healthcare. Once they apply for asylum, they are no longer illegal.

Naughtynovembertree · 18/11/2021 21:47

In the every country there is an unseen class of people who move in shadows and this came to light after the eu workers rights thing under Blair.
Eg why is a and e suddenly under massive unprecedented strain? Turned out (2005) etc that it was because many non English speaking unregistered eu nationals had not joined doctors so we're going to a and with issues.

Places like where blunkett was mp the verge of race wars, massive problems with some eu countries and different expectations of child rearing, social services involved, explosion of sexual exploitation people smugglers etc

We had about four illegal hmo on my road and regular attendance from police, a few times called by me, as, ambulances from fighting etc.

The sheer volume of people who came here meant whilst we also had a fabulous volume of "contributers" eg families, workers who were registered etc we unfortunately also had a high volume of people who moved in the shadows, earned money to improve lives back home.
I don't blame them at all.

However I don't think it's good for the UK when we already have an atrocious record on looking after vulnerable children, children in the care and so on.
We can't educate those with sp on our school yet because we don't teach sen to teachers. Our Senco are usually just Co ordinaters.

So, I don't think having massive unregulated illegal immigration is good.
I'd rather people applied for help through the normal channels and that when people do come to us from war torn places or like Afghanistan....not France We can look after them properly.
We can house them in decent places and put their dc into the schools where they won't be bullied.
I'd rather give protity at the moment to women and children from Afghanistan and be able to help them properly.
Not have stretched funds because of thousands of fit yong men barging in.

Parker231 · 18/11/2021 21:47

Refugees don’t have to apply to the first country.
Turkey has taken 3.7m refugees from Syria. What has the U.K. done - taken 20,000. The U.K. is pathetic!

JunoMcDuff · 18/11/2021 21:48

@woodhill

Why shouldn't he use the NHS
I'm not saying he shouldn't. At all.

I'm saying people are arguing that asylum seekers put pressure on the NHS but don't pay in. Yet plenty of millionaires don't pay tax unless forced to by bad publicity (Gary Barlow), yet use the NHS.

woodhill · 18/11/2021 21:49

Fair point

Naughtynovembertree · 18/11/2021 21:49

Juno that's what pushed our local hospital to broken. Not breaking point, broken because of people swamping a and e for things a doctor could dealt with. Hmm

JunoMcDuff · 18/11/2021 21:51

@Naughtynovembertree

But that's not why they have limited benefits. They have limited benefits because our government doesn't choose to prioritise working class people.

No. That was inadequate funding by years of Tory cuts.
Naughtynovembertree · 18/11/2021 21:53

Turkey is aligned with the culture of Syria and religion of their region.

If I was forced from the UK I'd rather live in France than Saudi Arabia?
Turkey is a massive country compared to the UK.
UK was /is a major contributer to camps in the region to support people who actually want to try and go back home, or did before it turned into what it did.
UK is one of the largest contributors to aid and support in the world compared to many eu countries. That's not "pathetic".

According to the Dublin III regulation, refugees do have to apply to first safe country they arrive in.
Naughtynovembertree · 18/11/2021 21:55

Juno, no.
I'm talking about the period under the Labour government and by this point in time. About a decade of labour.

A decade of labour which brought this hospital to its knees and the others in the region.

I could spam this thread with links?

tangone · 18/11/2021 21:56

The Dublin regulations only apply to countries within the EU - so not us.
