To think The Queen should retire?

I am not a monarchist - but given that we have a Royal Family....
Given her age, understandably failing health, and the recent widowhood, is it be reasonable to think the Queen should step down and retire gracefully?
OK, maybe stay in post until the Jubillee next year, but then hand over.

Never mind the Queen, this is the thread that won’t die.

*Never mind the Queen, this is the thread that won't die".

May it and all its descendants live long and prosper.

Some rich people would like it go away.

So why reply 12 hours after the last reply?

I just find it bizarre when I see comments like that, or ‘God, is this thread STILL going?!’ Of course it is - you just pushed it right to the top of the page!

Prince Edward represented her at the General Synod today - it's the first time the Queen has missed it.

Interesting that it is him, for he is not a Counsellor of State, but is one of the Magnificent Seven.

The situation re Counsellors of State is a bit of a mess, Harry could be suspended from the role whilst domiciled abroad (and there is provision for that) and someone needs to come up with a cunning plan to remove Andrew (perhaps he could just stand down). But of course then the replacements have to be the next two adults in the line of succession, which means Beatrice and Eugenie. Even though it wouid make far more sense to have Edward and Anne

I wonder if there might be a rule change or dispensation of some kind to specify Counsellors of State have to be actively carrying out royal duties. That would be the ideal opportunity to remove both Andrew and Harry for the same reason and to appoint Anne and Edward, despite them being further down the line of succession. Beatrice and Eugenie aren’t officially working Royals, so it makes no practical sense for them to be in that position.

There is a fairly recent precedent for a rule change on this, with the Queen Mother being reappointed via an Act of Parliament after George VI’s death (given she had been eligible as a consort, but was not as a widow).

@WomanStanleyWoman It was just a lighthearted, slightly ironic comment. I have rolled my eyes at similar though when it’s meant seriously, so fair enough.

I know. Why do people do that? Most odd.

Everyone who said she was already dead and we weren't being told look a little silly now.

Indeed. I suspect they won't acknowledge the silliness now!

Magnificent Seven is as bad as Fab Four. Look where that ended up 🤣
Oh dear! That went a bit pear shaped! Grin
