Are you expecting a Christmas bonus?

YABU - No bonus for me!
YANBU - Of course!

If you do - how much?

I've worked many, many many many jobs and never once received a Christmas bonus, so I have no frame of reference!
I've been to a few limp Christmas dos, however, but (as an antisocial goit) I think I'd have rather had the cash!

(I'm starting a new business, which will be recruiting from 1st Jan and am wondering how much I need to budget in for Christmas bonuses, as I've seen them mentioned on here quite a bit and it seems like quite a lot of people really benefit from them.)

Local authority so no bonus and no Christmas meal unless we organise and pay for it in our own teams

LubaLuca · 14/11/2021 19:01

We get two regular bonuses - a small one at Christmas and a bigger, performance-related one at the end of the financial year. We're getting a third, one-off bonus at the end of this year for getting through these crappy times. We'll also receive a gift at Christmas, usually some sort of fancy edible/drinkable thing (last year's was vegan, and fell a bit flat with most of us ingrates Blush).

It's the second American company I've worked for, and they've both gone in for cash rewards.

JurgensCakeBaby · 14/11/2021 19:01

Public sector so no bonus, no Christmas meal, if we want tea at work we have to take it in ourselves (everything mug, spoon, milk, teabags, even the kettle is someone's old one from home)

MeatyRvita · 14/11/2021 19:03

Me and Dh work for minimum wage in retail, so no.

Believer99 · 14/11/2021 19:04

1k bonus for everyone in my company - tech company

Sciurus83 · 14/11/2021 19:08

LOL. Wat dis?! Civil service so obviously not, we get a warm fuzzy feeling of doing public service. Ahem.

TheChild · 14/11/2021 19:23

Nope, however we get £10 towards our team Christmas meal and we are not having a party we are getting a Hotel Chocolat hamper.

Last week in our workplace they also had a budget of £20 for everyone to write a wishlist of what they would like. That was a nice surprise!

DHs employer (same type of business as the one I work for) gave all their fulltime staff members a £1000 bonus and part time staff a minimum of £500. That was a bloody nice surprise!

TheChild · 14/11/2021 19:24

*Last year, not last week!

Sparklesocks · 14/11/2021 19:26

No. I’m office based and normally get a bonus at the end of the financial year depending on how the company has performed. But we also have a warehouse arm of our business and those staff normally get £200-250 at Christmas (but not an end of financial year bonus). They deserve it. Especially recently as work has been harder with covid regs, supply chain issues etc.

TheOrigRights · 14/11/2021 19:26

We get an extra months salary end of Jan. Sweet. This'll be the 4th year. I've been working for 30 years and it's only since I've been in this job I've had bonus.

LadyCatStark · 14/11/2021 19:27

Education too so I might get to pay for my own Christmas meal if anyone organises one…

MsEmmeline · 14/11/2021 19:28

NHS, so nada 😄.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 14/11/2021 19:31

No Xmas bonus for me. We do get 1% during Q1 if we’ve hit our targets.

In my last job we got 2% at Christmas. That was lovely. It usually came out at about £500-600 after tax and covered all the presents I bought Smile

YellowBelly7 · 14/11/2021 19:33

£300 bonus and a 6ft Christmas tree each at the end of November Smile

LittleStorpingInTheSwuff · 14/11/2021 19:34

Large private sector employer, never do a Crimbo bonus. Might get some kind of gift, organised by senior bod PA. Usually there's a Christmas do at a nice hotel or something.

wheresmymojo · 14/11/2021 19:34

No Christmas bonus, we have an annual bonus in October.

We've been given Christmas Eve off though to spend with family and friends and are getting a 'well-being day' off on Jan 25th.

wheresmymojo · 14/11/2021 19:35

Oh and we don't have a Xmas party as it's the busiest time of the year for us but two weeks ago they hired out Alexandra Palace and had a huge party with free food and drink and Rudimental played live!

Nonicknamesforcatapillars · 14/11/2021 19:36

😂 don’t be silly, I work for the nhs.

Xfox · 14/11/2021 19:36

@RandomDent

Not a sausage now I’m in public service. But I used to work retail for a holiday job (an Indy, not a chain) and would get an extra £100 Christmas week. We were very busy at Christmas though!
Ha! I used to get an actual sausage! In one job we all got given a meat hamper every Christmas. A nice gesture I suppose, but as a vegetarian, it wasn't particularly appreciated! ConfusedGrin
LittleLego · 14/11/2021 19:46

Last 2 years I've had a bonus of approximately 5% of my annual gross salary. Smallish family business with a dozen employees. We also get a year end bonus in April. Not equal across the board, colleagues received between 1 & 5%. We also get a year end bonus. All at discretion of MD, nothing guaranteed.

Previous to that I was in a nfp business and we were given a £50 Debenhams card which was also appreciated

MsEmmeline · 14/11/2021 19:50

What I'd give to get a sausage 🤣!

Self employed so no, but I pay our nanny an extra week’s gross pay as a bonus with her Christmas present

Whichcatthatcat · 14/11/2021 19:59

No bonus, but the company partly pay towards our Christmas party. Last year we got an amazon voucher instead of the party.

TheatricalGiraffe · 14/11/2021 19:59

I'm not sure, I know i get a bonus but I don't know when it's paid..it's about £600 I believe,

Partner gets about £2,000 (after tax) which is roughly 10% of his annual salary, it usually gets paid September/October time..He might get another one closer to christmas depending how well his current project does
