Most bizarre seller ever

Totally prepared to be told I’m at fault but I’ve reached the end of my tether. I purchased a lovely pair of heels from a seller and used PayPal to purchase them. In purchased them on 25th October - wore them out on 31 October and the sole fell off. I contacted the seller who apologised but then suggested I have them mended and they would transfer me the money.

I declined and asked for a new pair - I asked for a return postage label and means to return - they arrived in large plastic parcel envelope I don’t have anymore. I got an emailed label with no accompanying confirmation that I would receive new shoes.

I queried this and said I found the interaction with them poor.

The seller has become very nasty - hurling accusations of me acting superior etc. I stated not to worry about replacement but could I have a refund. The response - “take it up with PayPal”.

Has anyone had any experience with this?- are PayPal helpful in these situations?. I’m honestly baffled as to how the conversation deteriorated like it has with the seller. I have evidence of all interactions between us and I showed a friend who though the seller sounded unhinged.

I just want my money back - the shoes were a gift from my husband so I want to purchase another pair elsewhere ASAP for our upcoming wedding anniversary. Should I kiss goodbye to my refund?

Just raise a case with PayPal - it's easy

HoseMeDownWithHolyWater · 12/11/2021 18:34

What was the company?

Briscarta · 12/11/2021 18:35

Thanks for getting back - I suppose I’m wondering if PayPal are normally good at reverting quickly. I’ve never had to raise an issue before. I’m worried I won’t get a refund

I don’t want to reveal the company name as they are a small enough Scottish company and I may have just gotten a bad customer service rep- I
Just want my £50 back and some new pink shoes!!

Screen shot all the messages, take it up with PayPal.

I assume this is a company not an individual?

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 12/11/2021 18:45

Yes PayPal are very good with this. Just include as much info as possible, including screenshots of msgs etc. and they will handle it. They have to allow a certain period of time for the seller to respond to them but it’s not too long. I had to go via PayPal for refunds twice in the last year and both were settled easily and quickly.

Briscarta · 12/11/2021 18:45

No, as far as I can tell it’s not an individual but a small business. I have copies of any correspondence between us - mostly of the seller using loads of words in capital letters and exclamation marks!

Honestly it was like having a conversation with someone who was spoiling for a fight!

Did you return the broken pair of shoes?
No seller is going to refund or replace until they've had the original ones back and inspected them. It's unlikely that PayPal will refund you unless you can prove that the seller has received them back.

Briscarta · 12/11/2021 18:52

No I haven’t returned them - I can’t yet -I originally asked the seller to send me a box/packaging and a return label - and confirm I Would receive a replacement pair of shoes.

Now I just want a box to return them a return label and a refund.

Tbh I’d just have posted them in whatever I had to hand (although this is why not to immediately bin packaging…) and requested return postage to be refunded. If they’re a small Scottish company and there was no return label etc that came with them, it’s a bit daft to expect them to post one out so you can then post them back. Their customer service communication should be better but you seem to be expecting Next catalogue style set up from a small business that you presumably shopped with for a reason.

LawnFever · 12/11/2021 18:56

If you’ve had an emailed label you can return them, to be fair rereading this if you haven’t actually sent them back I’m not that surprised they haven’t sent you a replacement or refund just yet.

You need to use the return label and send them back first, tracked so you have proof.

LawnFever · 12/11/2021 18:58

Now I just want a box to return them a return label and a refund.

If they didn’t come in a box it’s unreasonable to expect them to send you a box to return them in.

Briscarta · 12/11/2021 18:58

I binned the packaging they arrived in as it wasn’t for for purpose - I’m surprised they posted shoes out in it. Normally shoes arrive in boxes in my experience

Why is it daft to expect the company to pay for return of their faulty goods?- why should I be out the expense?. I agree they aren’t next - there are cheaper shoes than £50 on the next website!.- I bought shoes from this company as I liked them and I also like to support smaller businesses.

Perhaps I’d be best sticking to larger names.

Why do they need to send you packaging?? Just use a bag for life turned inside out, or similar.

Briscarta · 12/11/2021 19:00

I’d I send them back in a large plastic envelope what’s to stop the seller from saying they were damaged when returning in the post?

OP posts:
BonnesVacances · 12/11/2021 19:00

Tape them up in a bag for life and send them back. You asked for packaging, they only sent you a label. And pursue the refund via PayPal.

Noodella18 · 12/11/2021 19:00

Return fees are covered under PayPal.

Briscarta · 12/11/2021 19:01

I also want to ensure that I’m going to get a refund from them or I will be totally out of pocket - no shoes and no money!

OP posts:
CottonSock · 12/11/2021 19:01

You need to send them back.

Briscarta · 12/11/2021 19:02

I don’t trust the seller he/she is worryingly angry over an issue that is completely theirs!

OP posts:
Noodella18 · 12/11/2021 19:02

If you take pics before you send them back then it shows they were damaged before you sent them?! It does feel like you're being slightly obtuse - if you had multiple exchanges like this with the company I'm not surprised the person got frustrated (although agreed it's bad customer service to actually show that!)

nancybotwinbloom · 12/11/2021 19:04

Send signed for and PayPal should refund the postage

Kuachui · 12/11/2021 19:05

just throw them into a plastic bag and return like whats the issue. your seeming to be abit of a scammer to be honest. you probably want a refund or replacement without returning the shoes. you dont need packaging just put them into a bag and tape it up.

Briscarta · 12/11/2021 19:06

I took photos and sent to seller - he/she agreed they were faulty and told me to have them mended and send them the bill Confused.when I refused and asked for a new pair the seller became angry!

I’d have had no issue sending them back if I knew I’d get a refund.

OP posts:
giraffesateleaves · 12/11/2021 19:06

As long as the tracking says delivered back to her PayPal will ensure you get a refund. Sounds like you want to keep the shoes and get a refund? Will you have them mended then ?
