Fed up with unvaccinated colleague isolating

799 replies

Peevedcolleague · 12/11/2021 16:40

Name changed 'cos I'll probably get slated but aibu to be pissed off about a colleague self isolating yet again while the rest of us have to carry on and pick up the pieces?

A new colleague chose not to be jabbed and is now facing numerous isolation periods at home on full pay where the rest of us have to carry on and cover her workload. Nature of the job means she's likely to be a close contact fairly regularly.

Even if she changed her mind and gets jabbed tomorrow, it'll be 10 weeks minimum before she's exempt from isolation so this could happen several more times yet.

Aibu to feel resentful and wish she bloody well got jabbed like the rest of us?

LittleDandelionClock · 13/11/2021 19:32

@XenoBitch

Exactly. And watch her self isolating episodes stop when she gets fuck-all money for being off. Fucking piss-taker!

If she has been told to isolate by Test & Trace then she has 0% say in that matter.

Yeah sure! Of COURSE she keeps getting told my test and trace that she has to self isolate. I call bullshit.
LittleDandelionClock · 13/11/2021 19:34

@gamerchick

She doesnt have to if she's vaccinated though.
EXACTLY! If the stupid bint was vaccinated, she wouldn't have to keep self isolating. As a pp said, not being vaccinated is a massive advantage to her. Bet she'd get the fucking vaccine if her employer didn't pay her for being off. Piss taking tw@t

And as I said, I don't believe she has been pinged so many times anyway.

LittleDandelionClock · 13/11/2021 19:35

@SusieBob

A paramedic who is not vaccinated!!! Absolutely ridiculous. Do we have to yet again spell it out to the ignorant... the vaccine does NOT cause infertility. It is scaremongering like this comment which is particularly dangerous. I am afraid to say that unless you are vaccinated, no one should be allowed to continue to work for the NHS.

THIS! ^ Any NHS worker should be fired from their job if they refuse the covid vaccine.

Tens of 1000s of carers won't get the covid vaccine, and are crying and whingeing because they are about to lose their jobs.

Question is WHY? Why are so many carers refusing to get the vaccine?

susiebob

People like @Beachcomber use language like "experimental" - completely inappropriately- because they know it helps to sow doubt. They hide behind such language to try to appear credible when, when it comes to it, they are just another antivaxxer who has watched one too many conspiracy theory videos on YouTube.

100% this ^

These people are perfectly happy to enjoy the benefits to society that we have gained from the responsible majority getting jabbed of course.

And 100% this too. ^

TSSDNCOP · 13/11/2021 19:36

Not exactly correct. T&T don't tell vaxxed or under 16 close contacts to isolate. Just to get a PCR and isolate only when/if positive. Had this just last weekend.

WildExcuses · 13/11/2021 19:37

I actually have a colleague at work who did a U Turn on vaccination after a work trip to NYC was offered and wouldn’t be available if she weren’t (our US offices will not allow unvaccinated people to enter the office buildings currently)

Well, I wouldn’t have the vaccine for that reason, not anyone I know. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Clearly their reason for not having it wasn’t important to them.

uneffingbelievable · 13/11/2021 19:38

Entitled to her choice but not to the extent that I am expected to pick up the slack for the nth episode of isolation.

And I am one of the people who did step up and have a "trial" vaccine back in May 2020. Then it really was a step in the dark - I have pcrd, lateral flowed, filled in a sodding app, had blood tests, pregnancy tests etc etc - taken time off work to go to the appointments but worked throughout - to protect my life hopefully and allow us all to get back to a new normal.

i did not do it, so people can self isolate and expect me to pick up their work because it is a convenient way to get 10 days off work. So feel free to not get vaxxed but done expect to be paid or have the same freedoms as those of us who have.

XenoBitch · 13/11/2021 19:39

Why do you say that? It is easily proven. People have had to prove it to get the £500 grant that was on offer to some.
OP said this person is new, and is on her first period of isolation. What on earth leads you to think she is taking the piss?

WildExcuses · 13/11/2021 19:41

So feel free to not get vaxxed but done expect to be paid or have the same freedoms as those of us who have.

If companies pay their employees, you get no say.

DaisyStiener · 13/11/2021 19:41

Be pissed off at HR , OP.
Pre Covid, I had a colleague who would often phone in sick , at the time she was due in for work and nothing was ever said, and she often got away with it because we didn’t work along side any management
I was expected to do her share and mine of the work, no replacements or help was ever offered
Eventually I went to management and told them I really couldn’t care less what was “ailing colleague” this week but I was sick to death of their assumption that I was going to work myself to death, trying to cover for her. And they were to start getting cover.
Now , they try very hard to get cover- when they legitimately, never tried before !
So tell your boss you won’t be taking on extra stress or work as there seems to be no end date: they’ll soon change their bloody policy when they see the” muppets “have rebelled

XenoBitch · 13/11/2021 19:43

Actually, it is more like the staff and residents still in the care homes that are crying and whinging. They are the ones who are really suffering now. A lot of the carers that have been fired are now in better paid jobs with better working conditions.

It's been about 3 days since they started firing people so I highly doubt it.

Whitefire · 13/11/2021 19:49

Bloody hell, only read some of the thread and the stuff aimed at Beachcomber is unbelievable. It's almost as if the very fact her DD was vaccine damaged is of little importance when screaming anti-vaxxer at anyone who hasn't had it.

I absolutely hate the climate that this jab has created, and the control that some people feel they should have over others lives.

I think a common side effect of the vaccine is to turn into an unemphatic arsehole.

Aye. I was an arsehole well before then though. Grin

supremelybaffled · 13/11/2021 19:55

@Narutocrazyfox

YABU. Her body, her choice. Its the isolation rules that are the issue here - at least she's following them.
Is she though? Or is she thinking 'This is an easy way to get time off work on full pay' and is making it up half the time?
LittleDandelionClock · 13/11/2021 19:55

@XenoBitch

It is more like the staff and residents still in the care homes that are crying and whinging.

NO! It's the carers who are crying and whining coz they will be out of a job soon.

60,000 of them!

GET THE FUCKING VACCINE THEN YOU SPANNERS!

Keep spouting your anti-vax shite, but I'm not listening. CBA to talk to someone who spouts nonsense, and makes excuses for arseholes who won't get the covid vaccine.

Off you toddle now. >>> !

Dguu6u · 13/11/2021 19:56

@XenoBitch Do you not understand that thinking the vaccine is not safe is the same as not ‘believing’ in it? Because many studies have shown it to be safe, meaning there’s a very small risk, outweighed by the risks associated with getting Covid. And you will definitely catch Covid some time, so taking the vaccine is much, much safer.

People should stop referring to ‘believing’ in a vaccine or science, because there is no belief involved, it’s built on rigorous study and facts. It’s that people don’t understand it, or refuse to understand it.

Also, it’s ‘number’ of people, not ‘amount’.

Hmm, more proof of my previous point about the vaccine turning people into arseholes.

You do attract more flies with honey. Put the vinegar away.

Liekje · 13/11/2021 20:01

@LittleDandelionClock she should be getting paid, you get paid when you’re home sick from Covid when you get infected with it from staying at work, even when vaccinated you can still get Covid being vaccinated only means you might not get as symptomatic as when not vaccinated and when you do go to work while infected you can still pass it on to others so yea, everyone should self isolate vaccinated or not. Vaccination passports are a joke

WildExcuses · 13/11/2021 20:01

Spanners? Have I just been teleported to 1992?

And also, CALM THE FUCK DOWN! 🤪

I know for me that it is not safe. I do believe in it, and it has done a lot of good. But it is not safe for me. So, I do resent being put into the same group of people who are shouting abuse outside vaccine centres and schools.
There are vocal anti-vaxxer, and people who have had the vaccine... with the majority of people that are hesitant falling into the middle somewhere.

Thanks for the grammar lesson, and showing your educational privilege. You knew what I meant, so totally uncalled for.

chickywoo · 13/11/2021 20:06

Having the vaccine does not benefit anyone else, it doesn’t stop infection and it doesn’t stop transmission, it only serves to prevent you from getting seriously ill with covid, so if she has chose not to have it she has made an informed decision about her own health. The isolation rules are not her fault and I’m sure they will change soon anyway.

Dguu6u · 13/11/2021 20:11

@xenobitch those people who fall in the middle are anti-vaxxers too. You can try to distance yourself from it, but it’s the same thing. Refusing a vaccine because you don’t understand the benefits of it, is being against the vaccine and what it’s trying to achieve.
