Fed up with unvaccinated colleague isolating

Peevedcolleague · 12/11/2021 16:40

Name changed 'cos I'll probably get slated but aibu to be pissed off about a colleague self isolating yet again while the rest of us have to carry on and pick up the pieces?

A new colleague chose not to be jabbed and is now facing numerous isolation periods at home on full pay where the rest of us have to carry on and cover her workload. Nature of the job means she's likely to be a close contact fairly regularly.

Even if she changed her mind and gets jabbed tomorrow, it'll be 10 weeks minimum before she's exempt from isolation so this could happen several more times yet.

Aibu to feel resentful and wish she bloody well got jabbed like the rest of us?

There is just not a scrap of common sense in anti vaxxers is there?! WTF is wrong with them? Confused

As a few people have said, it SUITS this woman at the OP's workplace to not have the vaccine, because she gets to swing the lead, and skive off work. SHAME ON HER AND SHAME ON THE PEOPLE SUPPORTING HER.

She is not vaccinated and is at great risk and she has PUT HERSELF IN THAT POSITION.

SHE. SHOULD. NOT. BE. PAID.

She is a first class fucking spanner!!!

Can't wait for the anti-vax brigade to be told they can't do a fucking THING unless they have the vaccine. No travel, in their own country OR abroad, no theatre, no cinema, no meals out, no entrance into shops, and NO PAY FROM WORK IF THEY HAVE TO SELF ISOLATE!!!!!!! NOT A PENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whyisitsodifficult · 13/11/2021 20:15

@chickywoo

Having the vaccine does not benefit anyone else, it doesn’t stop infection and it doesn’t stop transmission, it only serves to prevent you from getting seriously ill with covid, so if she has chose not to have it she has made an informed decision about her own health. The isolation rules are not her fault and I’m sure they will change soon anyway.
Ah at last some common sense! 👏🏼
@xenobitch those people who fall in the middle are anti-vaxxers too. You can try to distance yourself from it, but it’s the same thing. Refusing a vaccine because you don’t understand the benefits of it, is being against the vaccine and what it’s trying to achieve.
No, the people in the middle are the ones with health anxiety, worries about how it can affect pregnancy, needle phobics, people with prior bad reactions to the first jab etc.
Anti-vaxxer has always been a term used for someone who shuns all vaccines, not just the Covid one. Why did this change? I was training to work in operating theratres so had all the jabs needed for that. So how does not having one particular one make me anti-vaxx?

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 13/11/2021 20:17

@Whyisitsodifficult

Bullshit you mean? She is spouting shite, no common sense in there at all.

WildExcuses · 13/11/2021 20:18

Someone’s lost the plot. 🤣🤣🤣

This is misinformation.

As has already been explained on this thread, the vaccines we have prevent the majority of infections, including against Delta. The effect is reduced with Delta but still the majority of infections are prevented. That means those people don’t get the virus to pass on to others.

As I’ve mentioned, the picture on secondary transmission is more mixed. There is evidence that the effect we saw with alpha (reduced secondary household transmission for the infected vaccinated) may have disappeared with delta. However recent studies out of the Netherlands and the US suggest that there is still a significant reduction in overall secondary transmission from the infected vaccinated, including with Delta.

It will be interesting to see the impact of boosters on the secondary transmission picture in particular.

JassyRadlett · 13/11/2021 20:20

Ah at last some common sense!

Sadly not, @Whyisitsodifficult, as the statements are based on misinformation not supported by the evidence.

Dibbydoos · 13/11/2021 20:20

Interestingly double vaccinated don't she'd the virus like the unvaccinated - based on small sample research bit stats are pretty strong. But I personally think we should isolated irrespective until that research is conclusive...

XenoBitch · 13/11/2021 20:21

Someone needs to book a flight to North Korea, and smoke a few joints and calm the hell down.

JassyRadlett · 13/11/2021 20:22

And they appear to clear the virus much more quickly, too. Really interesting when you look at the overall impact of secondary transmission and the relative risk to others.

Yes the government were appalling slow about getting pregnant women to get vaccinated ,My daughters mother in law had her 3rd booster jab last Wednesday Pnizer I presume didn’t feel too well (1st 3vaccines Oxford)Came downstairs Thursday collapsed on the granite floor blood everywhere (Severe reaction to jab )Had a bleed on the brain

I love a good vent, and especially when it's aimed at anti-twatting-vaxxers! Grin

Why NK? What am I missing here?
Livelovebehappy · 13/11/2021 20:24

It’s selfish on so many levels. If not having a vaccine only affected them, then I wouldn’t care, but I’m worried that these people are the ones that could potentially put us into another lockdown situation, purely due to them getting infected, becoming seriously ill and swamping our NHS. Again.

And the people you are "venting" at are also real people with their own worries on the other side of the keyboard.

I am having my booster - 3rd jab - on 27th November. At a vaccination centre. Our GP hasn't offered it yet, and when I enquired last week they said they were only just starting the over 75s! (I am early 50s.)

FFS, the GPs are not seeing anyone (for face to face appointments) STILL! Angry What the actual FUCK have they been doing all these months?! The boosters for the over 75s should have started in August/September!

Austria’s approach to a differential lockdown is worth watching in this context. It will be interesting to see the impact.
Dguu6u · 13/11/2021 20:30

@xenobitch yes of course being against one vaccine makes you an anti-vaxxer. It doesn’t matter if you had your other vaccines (although of course that’s a good thing), because we’re talking about Covid in particular here.

The North Korea comment just shows you’re one sandwich short of a picnic, so it’s completely useless explaining how wrong you are, since now it’s completely obvious to everyone.

Exactly. Selfish as fuck! As well as dangerous and ridiculous.

Am I a vegetarian if I eat all meat except pork?
So having all the vaccines except one does not make me and anti-vaxxer either. And "anti" is quite a loaded term. I am FOR vaccines. I do know someone you would term an anti-vaxxer who still had the Covid one as she had to for work. She rants about how it is all crap and how she does not believe in it (she has had Covid), but still had it. What would you call her?

Lillibee4 · 13/11/2021 20:36

Peevedcolleague
Have you thought you might be the selfish one!!!! It’s common knowledge that the jabbed can pass the virus on to anyone. You are not protected

😂😂😂

Sandwich short of a picnic!

Haven't heard that for YEARS!

And a perfect way to describe the anti vaxxers! 😂

And on that brilliant note, I am off. A bottle of wine beckons, and me and DH are going to snuggle up in front of a film now.

Nighty night all. Smile

XenoBitch · 13/11/2021 20:38

Actually, why call her anything? Why is this pigeon holing of people with complex worries now acceptable? If someone is anxious about the vaccine, why is it now ok to call them names, selfish etc... and not actually address their fears and reassure them?

You don't attract flies with vinegar.

Gothicashoker · 13/11/2021 20:39

Seeing as it isn’t even a proper vaccine yes you are being unfair! When you can still catch it even vaccinated yet don’t have to isolate and can just spread it about until you show symptoms it’s ridiculous!
I’m pregnant and have refused from the beginning as my body and my unborn baby will be no ones guinea pig Thankyou! Your colleague has probably done her research and made her informed decision just like many of us have
