To think Jeremy Clarkson needs a smacked bottom

He’s online whingeing that Greta needs a smacked bottom; probably as she is a young woman who has a different viewpoint from him, and isn’t afraid of being loud about it.

Aibu to think that he is the one who needs a smacked bottom instead

@Moonmelodies

I don't remember much outrage when comedian Rosie Jones suggested the then 16 year old Greta should be "drinking Lambrini and getting fingered".
That’s awful too.

What is wrong with people?

TheMarzipanDildo · 10/11/2021 09:25

Why would anyone “despise” an 18 year old girl who hasn’t done anything wrong? It’s such childish bullying.

Goldenbear · 10/11/2021 09:26

Personally, I think it is overwhelming impressive that one very young person has challenged the world on their climate change apathy. Particularly, when some of us who are many years older, find even recycling a challenge!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 10/11/2021 09:30

@GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou

I can see why someone would dislike Greta if their idea of clever is Jeremy Clarkson.
🤣

Nor does a superior education in any way amount to 'intelligence'. It's simply a matter of having had better opportunities. Case in point: the family of our unelected head of state.

You mean when she said Greta shouldn't have to be trying to save the world and do the work she's doing? That she should be being irresponsible and reckless the way lots of us were at 16 instead of having all the responsibilities she has? Because the context and phrasing is very important considering how you twisted it. But you knew that, I'm only saying it in case anyone takes what you said seriously.
Moonmelodies · 10/11/2021 10:27

I "twisted it" ?? That's exactly what she said, irrespective of context.

CounsellorTroi · 10/11/2021 10:28

@TashieWoo

What is actually wrong with middle aged white men though, and why should they be pissed off?
Especially when they can’t help being white, middle aged or indeed men.
Mumoblue · 10/11/2021 10:28

I mean, he’s made a bunch of stupid comments over the years. I’ve always thought he was a smug git.

Context matters!

I wasn't aware of that comment from Jones, so when I read your post, I took it in the way you obviously meant me to take it; that she was being dismissive and belittling of Greta. Now I know the context, I realise she meant that it was a shame Greta is inheriting a world that's in such bad shape, she can't just enjoy being young and irresponsible; she needs to take on serious activism.

There's no way you don't understand the difference between the two ways of reading that comment, based on context or lack of it.

GoGoGretaDoll · 10/11/2021 10:34

Greta is an autistic person and she very much presents as many autistic teenagers present - hyper focus, rigid thinking, a challenging communication style. People who 'despise that with every fibre of their being' are being as disabilist as fuck.

I mean, I'm not saying its easy to live with, but you don't get to despise someone for displaying the attributes of their disability.

Duckrace · 10/11/2021 10:53

@SpittinKitten 😄😄😄😄😄

OccultGnuAsWell · 10/11/2021 10:58

Different personalities appeal to different groups of people.

Climate change affects everyone.

Some groups like the way Greta delivers the message about climate change.

Others take notice when "one of the lads, petrol head Jezza" starts to expound on the same topic.

It's newsworthy when one starts to take issue with the other but ultimately climate change is included in the discussion and spreads to a wider audience.

ohtwatbollocks · 10/11/2021 11:03

I did like Jeremy. But the comment is a bit odd and honestly climate change is the biggest threat to humanity right now 🤷🏻‍♀️

Shade17 · 10/11/2021 11:06

People who 'despise that with every fibre of their being' are being as disabilist as fuck.

I despise her for what she stands for, along with Extinction Rebellion etc. Its got fuck all to do with her disability.

DrSbaitso · 10/11/2021 11:08

Why is she so despicable?

00100001 · 10/11/2021 11:09

What do you mean?

What does she stand for that is so dispicable?

HelplesslyHoping · 10/11/2021 11:14

It's almost as if middle aged white men like Jezza are too aware of their poor environmental impact and choices and would rather talk down to a woman and disrespect her evidence-based opinions than accept their own faults. Twats.

The internalised mysogyny is so clear on this thread!

amusedbush · 10/11/2021 11:15

Fucking hell, this thread is horrendous.

  1. There is no such thing as racism against white people. Making a comment about ‘middle aged white men’ is categorically not racist.
  1. People referring to a young autistic woman as a brat, saying she has no personality and needs discipline is gross as fuck. As an autistic woman myself, she is just outwardly autistic in a neurotypical world so stop holding her personality and mannerisms up to your standards. Climate change is clearly her special interest and, frankly, I wish my special interests were that beneficial to society!

JC’s comment about her needing a smacked bottom is grossly misogynistic and infantilising. There’s absolutely no way he’d use that language toward a man.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 10/11/2021 11:15

@TashieWoo

All middle aged white men are scum and have to be hated - didn't you get the memo?
saveourtrees · 10/11/2021 11:17

@Chasingaftermidnight

You’re obviously not bright enough to read anything about Clarkson, his education, his career and his views on the environment before spouting this opinion.

He was a committed climate change denier until he made some trip to Asia for filming and saw the effects of it firsthand, wasn’t he?

I can’t say that fills me with respect for his intellect.

Its quite nice to know that a climate change denier can have their minds changed, especially a famous, LOUD one.
daimbarsatemydogsbone · 10/11/2021 11:17

Oh and, of course There is no such thing as racism against white people.

Yeah - middle aged white men are all scum, but that's not racist, because er white.

amusedbush · 10/11/2021 11:21

@daimbarsatemydogsbone

There’s plenty of literature available on what racism is. White men feeling offended isn’t it.

Racism stems from oppression and I can’t think of a single time an old white man has been oppressed.

Horst · 10/11/2021 11:22

I can’t watch her. She just annoys me. As do the insulate Britain people and the ones who put the fake blood everywhere and al that.

It just makes me turn off it doesn’t make me take interest in their cause it’s just more people having little toddler tantrums and thinking shouting and stomping feet or sitting in roads will get what they want like toddlers who want that toy in Tesco.

godawful · 10/11/2021 11:23

What a shame after his partial rehabilitation with the vaguely worthwhile farming programme to reveal he is still a plonker underneath.

Fomomofo · 10/11/2021 11:26

They can't help being white, middle aged and male but they sure as hell can help expressing the privilege and arrogance that often goes with it
