To wonder why DD was refused food?

TheLasrStraw · 06/11/2021 17:44

Y8 DD came back from a residential trip and said she and her friend asked for a the Yorkshire Pudding without the meat sprinkles - the server was sprinkling the meat on it in front of them so could have just given one before he sprinkled it.

They were both refused.

We were told that this venue caters for all diets so why would they have been refused this?

The only thing I find interesting about this thread is the “sprinkles”.
Wasn’t there any broccoli sprinkles for vegetarians?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/11/2021 18:33

Maybe the meat sprinkles were crispy bacon bits? That’s the only thing I can think of that even comes near to being meat sprinkles - and I can’t imagine serving them with Yorkshire puddings. Confused

Forget the broccoli sprinkles. I want crispy onion sprinkles.
Cryalot2 · 06/11/2021 18:35

Could they not have scraped it off. If something I don't want I scrape to one side unless I am intolerant.
Unless for some reason they couldn't eat it I wouldn't make a fuss about 1 Yorkshire pudding .

TheSmallAssassin · 06/11/2021 18:35

No, @arethereanyleftatall, but OP did say that it was being served up in front of them - like you do in a carvery, or a works canteen, or lots of other places that serve lots of other people who get to ask for what they want as they are being served. It's unlikely to be silver service, isn't it?

DockOTheBay · 06/11/2021 18:36

Children deserve the same as adults. complain and ask for a refund

A refund for what? A single Yorkshire pudding?

smokey998 · 06/11/2021 18:39

Unfortunately children are not afforded the same respect as adults. I very much doubt he would have told an adult they had to have sprinkles! He would have had a very long argument from me if he had.
It was a very simple, easy request and everyones food choices, regardless of age, should be respected.

Treat others how you would like to be treated!

GemGemma · 06/11/2021 18:39

You didn't say she was vegetarian - is she?

I just read it as that was their food preference & it was ignored & dismissed as they are children & no one cared to listen!

Yes I think thats unacceptable. And if it is the case that they are vegetarian & the York puds weren't vegetarian, well that's why we have language - to explain this stuff!

I don't think asking for food preference is a 'whim' - it was a very simple thing to cater for, they did ask for a different dish to be cooked!

GemGemma · 06/11/2021 18:40

That ment to say they didn't ask for a different dish to be cooked.

Crinkle77 · 06/11/2021 18:40

Are meat sprinkles those things you get on salad bars? If so why were they even on a Yorkshire pudding? Bit odd!

Whinge · 06/11/2021 18:42

He would have had a very long argument from me if he had

Sure, shout at the poor guy who is just doing his job. Hmm Just don't be surprised when he argues back. Afterall you should Treat others how you would like to be treated!

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2021 18:43

I love Yorkshire puddings but meaty pork sprinkles sound bleurgh.
I don’t think anyone except the venue will know the meat sprinkle policy, so you’d need to ask them to get that particular ringbinder folder out and check.

budgiegirl · 06/11/2021 18:44

I don't know, my experience of residential is that the adults are very much treated the same as the children for catering. I took my cub pack to a PGL. At breakfast one day I asked for.a sausage instead of bacon, only to be told I couldn't, as it was a veggie sausage. Fair enough, and exactly the same answer as the children were given.

tempester28 · 06/11/2021 18:44

Yorkshire puddings are usually part of a particular dish - if you don't choose that dish then I don't think you should be annoyed if you don't get the Yorkshires

SunshineCake1 · 06/11/2021 18:45

Why didn't they just tip the pork lardons out and leave them ?

Mamamia7962 · 06/11/2021 18:46

Meat sprinkles sound really filling.

Viviennemary · 06/11/2021 18:46

Kids need to eat what they're given or do without. Once you pander to one they'll all be wanting a la carte.

Bigfathairyones · 06/11/2021 18:46

Honestly, the scenario that seems likely is the one already pointed out by several people, but to put it differently:

Menu 1 - no dietary requirements
Roast pork, 2 veg, yorkshire pudding. £2.75 per portion

Menu 2 - vegetarian
Vegetarian lasagne, garlic bread, salad. £2.75 per portion.

Your dd was on menu 2 and the school had allowed £2.75 pp/pmeal. The venue don't allow you to add items from other menu onto yours just because you ask for it and hence she couldn't have it. If you're concerned though, ring the venue and ask.

Doublechins · 06/11/2021 18:47

This is ridiculous. What about children with allergies or children who couldn't eat pork for religious reasons should they have had to eat it as well?
Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2021 18:48

@Mamamia7962

Meat sprinkles sound really filling.
They sound like the sweepings off the abattoir floor to me.
MaggieFS · 06/11/2021 18:49

Why has vegetarianism come into the equation?

Depending on the nature of the venue I can understand why they might not cater to every whim.

But most importantly, meat sprinkles?!? 🤢

ThinWomansBrain · 06/11/2021 18:49
@Simonjt

Being vegetarian isnt a whim. It isnt difficult to serve a yorkshire pudding before sticking meat on top of it. That's literally all he had to do. Pick it up and serve it without meat.
This isnt "meeting a whim of one child."
no, not a whim - but mass catering, maybe a vegetarian mean and a non-vegetarian meal.
Not a pick what you fancy from both meals so there is nothing left for the child at the end of the queue option.

Meat sprinkles sound vile

Chikapu · 06/11/2021 18:51

This is ridiculous. What about children with allergies or children who couldn't eat pork for religious reasons should they have had to eat it as well?

I'm assuming it was sarcasm.

SunshineCake1 · 06/11/2021 18:59

Even if the Yorkshire puddings weren't vegetarian they could have asked why the kids didn't want the bloody sprinkles.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 06/11/2021 19:01

Did they get fed, even if not exactly what they wanted?

If yes, it's a bit off but not a massive issue really. It happened you can both let it go.

If no, then I'd be more pissed off about that.
