So sick of the constant stupid fireworks

When will they hurry up and ban fireworks for private sale?
Have 2 dogs shivering under the sofa. Huge bangs outside. What if you have a baby in bed?
Anti social behaviour if you ask me.
Take your kids to a proper display.

@Barbie222

This comes up every year around Diwali on my community FB and the racism on these threads is more thinly disguised every year.
There have been lots of posts on here, in favour of organised displays including Diwali.

I've just found out that my friend's mum's perfectly healthy 7 year old dog had a heart attack last night from the stress. Her mum is nearly 80 and is devastated.

Oh that poor pup. Sad unfortunately I'd be very surprised if he was the only one though. They were exceptionally loud and prolonged last night I'm sure quite a few dogs, cats, horses, rabbit and other assorted animals be it pets or wildlife were just as traumatised.

Although in true dog hater fashion I'm sure some sadistic twat will be along in a minute to suggest it should have been desensitised to the noise and it's the owners fault.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/11/2021 16:40

@GlacindaTheTroll

I'm just glad it's on a Friday, with some displays on Saturday.

Instead of dribbled out over several days when it falls mid-week.

I rather like it all though, just don't like the idea of stressed dogs

They've been going on since Monday here. My (new to me) cat is not keen, and has slept with me because she's frightened.

I don't think they should be for public sale.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 06/11/2021 16:42

I was wrong about tonight hopefully being quieter. They have just started up again here. SadSad

Jourdain11 · 06/11/2021 16:48

It's not something I can really get worked up about. They're pretty... people want to have fun... and a lot of public displays have been cancelled around here, because these outside events are apparently a Covid risk, hmm.

I am so in agreement with you. My poor dog runs around constantly, panting, making my other dog afraid.
Moooning · 06/11/2021 17:43

It must be bloody awful for people who have experienced a warzone.

My heart goes out to veterans and civilians with PTSD at this time of year.

Whinge · 06/11/2021 17:44

Perhaps one of those who thinks people are fun sponges for complaining, because fireworks are one night of the year could come round and explain this to my neighbour. They had a loud display last night and have just started up again for round 2.

GreyhoundG1rl · 06/11/2021 17:45

One night of the year, you say? They started round here (London) about two weeks ago, and will continue for the foreseeable... 🙄

Love your username

Yep. They went off throughout the day here today as well. Which was bloody annoying as all of the dogs refused to go out in the garden because of the incessant bloody banging.

They normally go on for a few nights due to Diwali

MrsKeats · 06/11/2021 17:53

Yep all happening again tonight.

I appreciate they usually go on for several months nights. However, if a family set them off to celebrate Diwali or bonfire night surely they don't need to then do the same again the next night? Confused
FleetwoodRaincoat · 06/11/2021 17:54

So sick of the constant stupid firework haters.

I have to put up with barking dogs EVERY SINGLE DAY. That's an anti-social noise. EVERY SINGLE DAY. So forgive me if I have no sympathy for your point of view. Fireworks were around a long time before your dogs, so why should I not have the opportunity to enjoy them once or twice a year?

It's not fun, I can assure you.

It started again here at 5 but isn't anywhere near as horrific. There are at least gaps between blusters but again not ideal.

balonsz · 06/11/2021 17:58

Just like with other holidays and celebrations public displays would be completely reasonable but private displays should be either prohibited or the public should only be able to purchase silent or quiet fireworks for use at home. No discrimination, no racism just consideration for both sides of the argument.

The issue is public displays are expensive. £12 per adult at Battersea for example & there isn't often the capacity. When I was a kid we had 3 free displays in the local parks now there is only Battersea in the borough. I hate Battersea as it's so big & crowded, more than 50k people.

As far as i'm aware there isn't any public displays locally for Diwali.

Once or twice a year for four months because idiots so desperately need to hear a bang and see a flash??

And again, dogs, people with ptsd and combat vets, the elderly, those with dementia, kids and adults with sensory issues should totally suffer severe distress over months just because they exist for the rest of the year and inconvenience you.

Tilltheend99 · 06/11/2021 17:58

I’m trying to get baby to sleep as she has been so exhausted all day from fireworks disruption last night but it is all kicking off again now and not even 6 yet.

Public displays are cheaper than buying 100s of fireworks and setting them off in the middle of a crowded estate....
Santastuckincustoms · 06/11/2021 18:01

I do wonder how the British would cope with any of the other major celebrations from other cultures. As a nation we don't do fun very well do we?

If la tomatina was British we would moan about the clothing stains and wasps until we closed it down to one person eating a tomato with a knife and fork in a sealed room.

Don't worry, your baby (and the elderly and mentally unwell) don't matter according to some posters, because as long as pets (dogs) are being punished for barking and shitting the rest of the year then that's just fine Hmm

But seriously, I hope it at least stops early tonight your little one gets some much needed sleep (and you do too) Thanks

Fairly sure dogs existed before fireworks although I’m not an evolutionary expert…
