To want to buy a few fireworks?

I can’t find any anywhere! What’s happened? Has Bonfire Night been cancelled? I loved it as a child. I just want to get a few sparklers and Roman candles, some traffic lights and fizz pops. I’m not looking for a significant amount of gunpowder - not trying to frighten people’s pets. I don’t want to attend a public display. They’re too crowded and loud. I just want a little party in my garden with parkin and toffee apples.

Where are all the fireworks??

I really object to people claiming that sparklers scare pets/wildlife.

My neighbours bloody car headlights are brighter and there's no noise at all. Not to mention that we have them in our own back garden where no dog, horse etc can see them.

@GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine

Goodness, it's one day of the year. Come on people. By that logic they should stop selling anything that could frighten people. Clown costumes, balloons, etc.

Aldi had some last year. I'm sure they did

Well that's bullshit. They've been going off for weeks here and will continue for a week or so after.

I can keep my dog away from anything else that scares him but the explosions outside, sadly not. If it was JUST one day I'd cope. They shouldn't be sold to the public.

DirtyDancing · 05/11/2021 11:27

@idontlikealdi

Good and it's not one day a year as pp said. Some knob jockey around here was letting them off randomly from midday yesterday.
Knob Jockey. Not hear that for years. Ha ha Grin
Watchingyou2sleezes · 05/11/2021 11:28

I don't buy fireworks, actually support banning sale to the general public and as for as I'm concerned seen one display seen them all so don't go to organised displays.

But the finger wagging of pet owners really gets on my tits.
"Harry" (my year round yapping little bastard turd factory) "gets really scared by them".
Just.Fuck.Off.

I don't mind sparklers. Just the stupidly loud fireworks
livingthegoodlife · 05/11/2021 11:29

Bought mine in The Range. Will be having a little party for us & neighbours with toffee apples & fire pit for toasting marshmallows. Will be lovely!

Flutteringbyagain · 05/11/2021 11:29

Another saying good. They should have been banned from public sale years ago. Priorities are all wrong in this country.

Probably celebrating Diwali. Hardly crime of the century.

DeepaBeesKit · 05/11/2021 11:30

Also there are lots of fireworks that aren't massive bangs. Instead of people focussing on outright bans (in reality unlikely to happen), they should be focussing on banning loud ones.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 05/11/2021 11:30

@GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine

Let's stop selling balloons too then
That I would 100% back.
girlmom21 · 05/11/2021 11:31

"Harry" (my year round yapping little bastard turd factory) is shit scared of everything but fireworks actually don't phase him.

I do have a yapping little bastard called Harry Grin

HoldingTheDoor · 05/11/2021 11:31

They should be banned, for many reasons, particularly environmental ones. They are pollutants.

@NothingSafe

Good. They shouldn't be sold to the general public anyway.
Absolutely agree
megletthesecond · 05/11/2021 11:32

Yabu.
They're dangerous and no one ever goes out and picks up the litter left behind. Does my head in walking round after lazy arses who leave the burnt stubs lying around the estate.

KarmaStar · 05/11/2021 11:34

Stop being so selfish.
Have you no awareness of people with ptsd?or the injury and fear,damage and destruction it causes to wildlife and domestic animals?if not,read up!
You can have a toffee apple without causing all that injury and fear.

orangespotatoes · 05/11/2021 11:34

I find it insane fireworks can be sold to the public. Every year for years in our part of London kids buy then and cause havoc in the square- firing them at crowds waiting for busses and into shops on the high street. It's awful.

It's not just one day a year though is it?! Nowadays it's someone gets married...boom fireworks Someone's funeral... boom fireworks Someone gives birth... boom fireworks A Baby gets christened... boom fireworks and don't get me started on the twats that fire them off in broad daylight. I nearly rolled into the back of someone's car when some idiot blasted one off mid day and I jumped out my skin Angry

But it's not one day of the year is it? They've been going off for weeks in my area and will long continue beyond tonight. They will still going off past midnight last night.

Hmm sure, would that be 5th November? Or 6th and 7th as well, which happens every year, plus of course weddings, New Year’s Eve, birthdays, Diwali, and in the case of a local place round here 5 or 6 weekends over the year

It’s not one night, it’s lots of nights
They are not good for the environment, they frighten livestock, animals and even some children

They should be banned, and only allowed at very regulated events November and NYE and should be silent ones

Now that is a problem. Teens should not be able to buy them and there should be very strict age verification policies. If they can refuse a 40 year old woman alcohol because she doesn't have her ID with her then they can refuse a 16 year old fireworks.

I'm not a pet owner. I am a human being who finds fireworks terrifying. I can cope if I know when they're going to happen and when they will stop (so a 30 min organised display at a set time). I find it much harder to cope with them going off for hours and hours many nights in a row. Should I just fuck off too?
Sunshineandflipflops · 05/11/2021 11:36

We usually go to a local organised display but my dc is isolating with Covid and was v disappointed that we now cant go. He is also missing his GCSE mocks at school so i bought a small box of fireworks and sparklers which we will enjoy in the garden tonight. I have a cat so am well aware of the animal aspect but she has lived through 13 firework nights so she'll be ok for another.

The organised event is actually on sunday so I figure at least we are doing our small, low noise ones on the actual day and not contributing to prolonging the fireworks.

We'll be back to the organised events next year.

I bought them from Asda BTW.

Are all Hindus and Sikhs knob jockeys, then?

Literally no one has said anything about sparklers. If it was just sparklers then there wouldn’t be much of an issue.
Queenie6655 · 05/11/2021 11:42

Hate them hate them hate them

Can someone start a petition to make them illegal

Just utterly pointless
