Apparently I'm crazy for finding 17c too cold.

I'm currently wearing a top, a hoodie and a big blanket/hoodie thing and I still have a cold nose.

Please tell me I'm not crazy and 17c is bloody cold to have it at home. What temp is your perfect temp at home in the evening?

Who is it that thinks you are crazy op, I’m sitting here at mo heating is on 21 I’m in a T-shirt it feels really cosy, when it gets colder ours is 23, I don’t like bundles of clothes on, I’d rather have heating turned up, I will say I don’t like the bedrooms as warm,

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 02/11/2021 20:59

I find 17-18 warm enough

My elderly relatives all have 21-ish which to me is unpleasantly warm Grin. It means that when I visit I have to remember to wear “summer” clothes Wink

But I keep a cold house I guess, I move around a lot . I wear warm jumpers.

When sitting still for longer times, I do get chilly. So the. I get up and move around a bit

Benjispruce5 · 02/11/2021 21:00

I’m spending my days in a classroom with the doors open, I’m hard! Grin

NotMyCat · 02/11/2021 21:02

17-19c is ok for me
14-16c is a bit too cold if I'm sat working and not moving but ok if I'm cooking or cleaning

kowari · 02/11/2021 21:04

I have mine set to 17 exactly! I'm in jeans, t-shirt hoodie, and blanket over my legs if sitting on the sofa. I have the heating on for an hour in the morning, then from 5 to 8 pm.

PurpleFlower1983 · 02/11/2021 21:05

We keep ours at 19 but boost it to 21 on an evening. We have a toddler and a baby.

icedcoffees · 02/11/2021 21:05

Mine is set to 19-20 normally.

Without the heating on at all it sits around 16-17 degrees which is just a bit too cold for me if I'm just sitting, though it's fine if I'm cooking or cleaning etc.

It's off completely overnight though.

mrsm43s · 02/11/2021 21:06

I would find 17deg too cold for being sedentary. When WfH, I need 20deg plus because I'm not moving around. But I find 17-18 just perfect for when I'm bumbling around and doing things.

If you're just chilling out on the sofa, I'd highly recommend a heated throw. Preferably a faux fur one :) Something like this

kowari · 02/11/2021 21:07

Anything from 14 is fine when I'm moving around, except when I first get up, which is why the heating is on for that first hour. 17 perfect when I'm sitting still.

Roominmyhouse · 02/11/2021 21:07

17c is chilly for me, our heating is on 19c and I’m wearing a hoody and am under a blanket. I really feel the cold, I’d prefer it a few degrees warmer but am trying not to turn it up.

emmathedilemma · 02/11/2021 21:08

Moving around, doing housework and cooking etc I can cope with it on 17-18 but sitting still to watch tv or working I find that too cold and have my heating set to 20 morning and evening.

JamOrMarmaladeOnToast · 02/11/2021 21:12

@BigButtons

I have no heating on at night
@BigButtons We don't normally but the temperature was zero outside last night and we do then to stop pipes freezing. This year we already had the tank in the loft burst which was not fun.
FOJN · 02/11/2021 21:13

The thermostat is in the coldest part of my kitchen and currently reading 14 degrees, BBC weather says it's 5 degrees outside locally. The woodburner is lit in the lounge but all the doors downstairs are open so the lounge doesn't get too hot. I'm in PJ's and very toasty. I had a 4.5 tog duvet on the bed until the weekend.

I don't enjoy stuffy houses so I'm delaying putting the central heating on for as long as possible. I wouldn't sit and work in 14 degrees but I'd be very warm in an 18 degree room.

Saving money on heating is one of the few benefits of menopause.

BigButtons · 02/11/2021 21:14

@JamOrMarmaladeOnToast my thermostat is set to ten to stop the pipes bursting - luckly it hardly ever comes on

Girlking · 02/11/2021 21:15

Mine is at 25 and I have triple glazing , I turn heating off after 1 hour and house is still warm until the next evening.

GoodnightGrandma · 02/11/2021 21:15

17-18

Brokenrecord3006 · 02/11/2021 21:16

I'd say 17 is a lovely temperature. My office has been set to 20 degrees and it's like an oven!

But then we do have an old house that drops to 5 degrees in the winter...

Smashingspinster · 02/11/2021 21:16

I aim for 20, 19 if I am more active, 21 if I am poorly. But 17 sounds awful.

Bluntness100 · 02/11/2021 21:17

Mines about 23-24. I don’t like a cold house and am fortunate enough to not to have to endure it

Seventeen can be warm outside in spring and summer, but on a cold autumnal night houses feel very cold inside at that temperature and most humans would find it uncomfortable.

Yes, I wish ours was not opposite a south facing window but the builder said it would cost too much/not worth moving. It's an old Honeywell dial brown type one.

Cameleongirl · 02/11/2021 21:22

Ours is 18/19c. I’m wearing jeans and a warm cardigan too. We’ve had it higher in the past and it was too expensive.

BSideBaby · 02/11/2021 21:22

19-20 here but no heating in my bedroom as I prefer to sleep in a cold room. 17 is too cold if you're not moving around.

Greenhand · 02/11/2021 21:26

I have raynauds and mine is set at 15. It's cold but I use a hot water bottle or wear a coat inside.

Andwander · 02/11/2021 21:27

Depends on your age.If you are in your early 20's, its ok with 17°(although not cosy ).if you are over 60,its bloody freezing.I have it 19.5° with wearing fleece and neckwarmer and a warm border collie next to meGrin
