To ask if we can stop dicking about with the clocks?

Just that, really. I'm up at 4:30 for the second day in a row because of this clock nonsense. Changing bedtime is not adjusting wake-up time, just resulting in a tired infant. Can we all just leave the clocks where they are from now on?

@UsedUpUsername

I lived many places that didn’t and it always got dark earlier than I expected. I kind of value that extra hour of sunshine in the evening
Which we've now lost with this clock change...I'm all for staying on the summer time!
Exhausted5487 · 01/11/2021 05:51

Oh that's rubbish - do you get paid for the extra hour you do?!

MaryShelley1818 · 01/11/2021 05:51

YANBU it's rubbish!

Very tired mother of a toddler and a 9mth old baby who never ever sleeps 💤

holidaynearlyover · 01/11/2021 05:52

When mine were younger I used to do the 5 min thing too, worked a treat.

I love the extra hour on a Sunday, it's the best Sunday of the year! I also love not feeling shattered in the morning for the following week as when my alarm goes off it feels like I've had extra time in bed!

I don't like the clocks going forward as much though 🤣

ThirdElephant · 01/11/2021 05:52

@Santastuckincustoms

Isn't it for farmers? Which I've never understood changing an entire country for one occupation. Just work a different shift?? Surely the cows still wake at the same point - it's not like you can use a gro-clock with them? Or can you? Confused
Well, the storybook book that comes with the gro-clock suggests that it works on pigs... 🤔

@showmethefood sorry my last message was for you but in trying to sort it I saw you already answered my question!

allofthecheese · 01/11/2021 05:54

Toddlers been awake since 4am. And I'm currently sick. It's gonna be a loooooong day. Sad

Jojo19834 · 01/11/2021 05:59

I’m up but my LG is actually still asleep! It’s thrown me for sure, went to sleep just after 8 last night as was tired so up early. I need to move my sleep by 5 minute increments I think!

Neurodiversitydoctor · 01/11/2021 06:02

Alarm goes at 5:30 here. It wasn't getting light till gone 7 last week. I like the extra hour.

fourminutestosavetheworld · 01/11/2021 06:06

Love the extra hour in bed and the lighter mornings. Will be a bit sad if they stop it.

Simonjt · 01/11/2021 06:07

Wide awake at 4:45 here, as were the cat and dog, it normally takes a good 3-4 weeks for me ti get into a routine of waking up at 5:45 again

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/11/2021 06:08

This article from the Royal Greenwich Observatory gives the reasons. It’s all about optimising daylight.

I do feel for the parents of young babies and children though! I used to dread the autumn clock change!

It’s worth remembering that there is about an hour’s difference between dawn and dusk times from the north to south of the uk anyway. By the winter solstice, there’s only about 6 hours of daylight in northern Scotland; it does makes sense to align them with normal waking hours as much as possible.

Can we stop dicking about with the clocks
Only if we do it now (or in the next few months). All my clocks are telling the right time for the first time since March. Don't piss on my parade.

I like the forward and back, really.

saleorbouy · 01/11/2021 06:13

Google search the oven model and you'll likely find the instructions for the clock adjustment.
The car info will be in the owners manual/service pack in the glove box folder.
The time.change is always a pain with small DC and animals who don't understand.
My daughter has just got up at 0530 and fed the cat!

Fleetheart · 01/11/2021 06:13

I’m actually really pleased they have changed. can take the dog out for a walk before work now. also it’s easier to get up when it’s light.

User527294627 · 01/11/2021 06:15

Yup, another one here who was up considerably before the lark with a baby who can’t tell the time. Whyyyyyy.

sarahc336 · 01/11/2021 06:19

Yup both my children got up at 4.30 am this morning 😩😩 4 year old did go back to bed but the baby clearly feels it's wake up time as I guess really for her body clock it's that time. Bloody clocks.

tigger1001 · 01/11/2021 06:20

It makes a difference to me where I am. I now get a few more weeks where it's light when I leave for work. If the clocks didn't change here it would be dark until 9.30 ish in the next few weeks. Would much rather have daylight in the morning.

JanuaryEl5ieBill · 01/11/2021 06:20

Yesterday was 5am, today was 4.30am. How has it got worse with a later bedtime?! Sad

The idea of a groclock in a field of cows has cheered me up though.

Limegreentangerine · 01/11/2021 06:24

Another mum here that's been up since 4am no advice just solidarity yawns I'm off to put the kettle on ....

amitoooldforthisshit · 01/11/2021 06:34

Those asking if you get paid for the "extra hour", no you don't because you got paid for the hour you didn't work when the clocks went forward.

What happens if you're on a 6 month contract?

Where I used to work For the 11 hr shift we were paid for 12 hrs and for the 13 hr shift we were paid for 13hrs.

Not every company does this but ours definitely did.

Housewife2010 · 01/11/2021 06:47

I like the clocks changing and my children always adjusted to it easily.

user1471464218 · 01/11/2021 06:47

I didn't work Sat nightshift this year, but I would get paid
12 HR for the 13 hr shift
12 HR for the 11 hr shift

It works out on the rota that you get both usually in a year
