To ask if we can stop dicking about with the clocks?

Just that, really. I'm up at 4:30 for the second day in a row because of this clock nonsense. Changing bedtime is not adjusting wake-up time, just resulting in a tired infant. Can we all just leave the clocks where they are from now on?

How many children would realistically be walking to school in pitch black, though? If they're in country lanes with no street lighting, the chances are that they are far enough away from their respective schools to be entitled to school transport anyway.

Well my preschooler would be walking or scooting with me in pitch black and we’re not in Scotland. I don’t see why that’s more palatable than grown adults just sucking it up twice a year. All this “jet lag symptoms for days” stuff - you must all really struggle when you go on holiday.

There’s a limited amount of daylight midwinter, arguing about it, starting campaign groups, howling to the Moon won’t change that so if the gripe is kids going to and/from school in the dark the only answer is shorten the school day….

“Dicking around with the clocks”….like a few on MNs did that pretty much every time I went to work and in all honesty in the scheme of things a one hour change is trivial. It really shouldn’t take multiple days or even weeks to adjust to a one hour shift if you put some effort into doing so…I guess you can tell I don’t have a great deal of sympathy to that particular part of grumble and am a little bit inclined to start handing out grips.

Street lights aren't always the best, last week it was dull and horrible in the mornings the roads near the school were really busy. This week its been bright and crisp fewer cars on the roads.

You have more dark horrible mornings you'll almost certainly have more cars on the roads.

Um... all of them... what sort of megawatt street lights have you got? Shock

It’s not just the dark though, it’s the combination of dark and cold... without daylight nothing has thawed yet when both foot and road traffic is heaviest.

Schoolkids get chauffeured into school anyway

Secondary school kids don’t and many upper KS2 kids. My DC are year 5, 6 and 7 and all make their own way home. DS goes to after school clubs twice a week and doesn’t get home until it’s dark now which is around 5pm so not an unreasonable time.

We should just scrap it, I have no idea why we still uphold this.

What would you scrap BST?

The thread hasn't given you any clues as to why we still do it?

Mommabear20 · 04/11/2021 11:41

I'm the complete opposite! 😂 despite having a cranky toddler and baby for a few days, I still love the tradition of it and for me it's the start of the festive season, dark nights, big coats and all that lovely autumnal/wintry fun 😁😁
