Cups used once don't go in the dishwasher!

I have family down. It's raining. So endless cups of tea are in order. However, one member of the family likes whisking cups away the instant you put them down and puts them in the dishwasher. Then another clean mug is used for the next round of tea, even though it is the same four people drinking it and all have personal, identifiable mugs. And obviously once whisked away and put in the dishwasher not everyone remembers their own mug so you can't get them out again. Also risks offending the person 'helping'. Now the dishwasher is running and my extensive mug collection is taking up all the space. So drinking out of a 'non mug' vessel and have to do the actual washing up in another lot.
I know this is a first world problem, just thankful I actually have a dishwasher otherwise I would have to do two lots of washing up by hand.

Aibu? Or just a wee bit precious.
Yabu: It's normal to get a new mug for each refill.
YAnbu: whisking is unnecessary and fussing.

Have to use a fresh mug or they get tea stained!

godmum56 · 29/10/2021 20:55

team fresh mug here but I would be livid at having my half drunk drink or half eaten food snatched away

Legomania · 29/10/2021 20:55

Yuck, always a fresh mug for me. I drink my coffee too slowly so the cup ends up with rings around the inside. Usually only have two per day though.
My water glass on the other hand, does me all day and maybe a few after that

yourestandingonmyneck · 29/10/2021 20:56

@Sparklingbrook

Just give it a rinse in the sink

If a quick rinse gets lipstick off then it's time to change the lipstick.

I've got hot water and fairy liquid in my house.
shouldistop · 29/10/2021 20:56

That's annoying. We use the same mug and same glass for a day.

Sparklingbrook · 29/10/2021 20:57

If you are using hot water and washing up liquid then that's washing up, not a quick rinse then.

SergeiL · 29/10/2021 20:58

I do tea, coffee, tea, wine so a fresh receptacle for each! But a reusable squash/water glass. When people are here, wine opening is generally brought forward by several hours! Grin

BelleOfTheProvince · 29/10/2021 20:59

Off tangent but all the lipstick adverts I ever see show it as drinking proof.

My uncle will try to take my unfinished coffee out of my hands.

All my mugs are totally different, so I only need to use one per day. I always give them a swill under water between uses. Two if it gets lost in the house (we have a lot of stairs).

If I used a fresh mug I'd get through about 8 or 9. I'm not kidding.

I think it depends which lipstick. Some are better than others but they do leave marks on cups even if the drink doesn’t remove it from the lips.
speakout · 29/10/2021 21:02

Fresh mug every time.
Coffee leaves marks in the mug- I also switch my drinks through the day, so I may have a coffee with milk in e morning followed by a peppermint tea an hour later- I don't want milky scum floating on the top of my tea.
I have lots of mugs and a dishwasher.

BelleOfTheProvince · 29/10/2021 21:02

I will count them when they are out, but even a conservative estimate would be 20

Cryalot2 · 29/10/2021 21:04

Clean mug every time.
Thats why I have so many and they are mostly dishwasher safe.

NoDecentHandlesLeft · 29/10/2021 21:05

I rinse mine out with a tiny bit of water but don't wash properly. Otherwise the dregs end up back in your tea!

SmaugMum · 29/10/2021 21:06

Yuck! I hate the endless recycling of tea/coffee mugs, it’s so dirty. And I write this as someone who has no dishwasher and who HATES washing dishes by hand. Do we re-use our toilet tissue, do we scrape our used plates, lick them clean and then serve a fresh meal upon them? So why get cross about people wanting to drink out of a clean receptacle, given that mouths are such proven harbingers of germs.

Athenajm80 · 29/10/2021 21:07

No, same mug. I have my favourites so use for a day then wash. In between cups, I empty any dregs then give it a quick rinse. All these people who don't want the leftover tea contaminating their coffee or whatever, the "re-users" do empty the mug between drinks. We're not making hot drink cocktails 😉

HereWeGoAgains · 29/10/2021 21:08

One mug per day for me. Even if I'm switching between tea / coffee. I give it a quick rinse in the sink so I really can't see the issue

Nooo, because then my tea mug taste of coffee! My in laws only drink coffee and I can taste it in my tea. Makes me sad. Ruins it.

mrsm43s · 29/10/2021 21:09

Same mug if it's a second cup from the same teapot/ cafetiere, but otherwise a clean one. Do you eat your lunch and dinner off your breakfast plate?

JurgensCakeBaby · 29/10/2021 21:09

I use a fresh one but most days I don't have a hot drink and if I do it's likely to be a maximum of one first thing in the morning and one late in the evening, DH chain drinks tea when he's WFH, he reuses the same cup but doesn't rinse it in between and they end up tea stained

whynotwhatknot · 29/10/2021 21:11

same mug all day for me or same glass doesnt bother me if someone did this round their house either

BigHuff · 29/10/2021 21:12

One mug for one day - one week.

One glass for one week - one month.

Work mug only gets washed when I've been on AL and come back to find it mouldy. I've washed it twice this year, and I drink from it 2-5 times every single weekday. Black coffee only, though.

whynotwhatknot · 29/10/2021 21:12

20! thats ridiculous

@godmum56

100%
it's one of the first thing DH learnt about me.
I don't care what anyone thinks, I will finish a 1/2" of cold coffee even the next day - I like cold tea & coffee anyway - and I loathe people pouring stuff away when I'm not done, especially in my own house!!!

GrandDuchessRomanov · 29/10/2021 21:13

We have our adult Dnephew staying with us and he does this with glasses for pop.

He is the only one who drinks from said glasses, drives me insane.

Just give it a rinse ffs!

Pinkorchide · 29/10/2021 21:13

One coffee mug for the day, although hot chocolate in a fresh one at the end of the day. Actually thinking about it, not sure why that can’t just go in the same mug too.
