To think a 95 year-old woman slowing down is not that shocking?

Regardless of whether you are in favour of a royal family or not… is it really a shocker, or a crisis, that a 95 year-old woman is slowing down somewhat and missing engagements?

I personally am in favour of the royal family, and I hope nothing is seriously wrong with the Queen. But it’s not like she hasn’t been seen in months and there’s some great conspiracy to keep the reason a secret. She’s had one night in hospital and missed one engagement. She’s 95. Someone not having a few health problems at that age is a news story!

I know people are interested in royal stories, but realistically, ‘old woman not as young as she used to be’ isn’t news. For at least 25 years now, it’s been made clear the Queen won’t abdicate, but will hand over more responsibilities to Charles and, increasingly, William. Unless something major or out of ordinary happens, we don’t need a running commentary.

She was quite nifty getting out of the car. The stick is there for a bit of balance but she looks amazing for her age. I want to know what foundation she wears.

There are a few nasty comments here, but most people are expressing respect and admiration, including many who are not pro Royals in general. So I don't see it as a "horrible, ghoulish" thread - it isn't actually harming ER that people are wondering about her state of health (and I don't think it's still treasonous to speculate on the death of the monarch!).

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 27/10/2021 08:16

Well she's not dead she was seen doing a zoom call with some heads of state the other day .
It's obviously covid precautions, anyone that age would need to think about limiting contact with crowds of strangers at the moment .

forinborin · 27/10/2021 08:17

@Rosiiiiie

If she was actually close to dying, why would Will and Kate have gone for a midterm break? And why isn’t Harry heading back to UK?
I think it is much easier for them to come back at any point within a matter of few hours, if things deteriorate. It is not like they are on a package holiday and will lose money if they leave early.
terrywynne · 27/10/2021 08:18

(and I don't think it's still treasonous to speculate on the death of the monarch!).
Probably not Grin

I absolutely admire that she is still keeping on with her duties. But in any other role she could have retired by now and it must be getting hard.

WomanStanleyWoman · 27/10/2021 08:19

@TeloMere

Where did you get the impression people thought it was shocking OP ?
Front page headlines saying ‘What aren’t we being told about the Queen’s health?!’?
OP posts:
oakleaffy · 27/10/2021 08:21

The Queen was riding until very recently.
She gets the absolute best medical treatments, and fair play, she is committed and dedicated in her role.
She should retire, but Charles is a poor substitute.
Once the Queen dies, it may well be the beginning of the end for the RF.
Who actually respects Charles?
Princess Anne would make a better job of it.

EishetChayil · 27/10/2021 08:24

As a deeply religious woman

Is she really, though? Covering for her nonce son?

theDudesmummy · 27/10/2021 08:25

I think it is entirely reasonable, given the Covid levels, that she does not attend a big conference in person. I wouldn't myself and I am decades younger than her. It would send a good message if they just said that.

CoffeeAndKittens · 27/10/2021 08:25

@IndecentCakes

Aw, who among us hasn't tried to get out if a boring meeting? She's sitting in her Corgi print Oodie thingy playing PS5 for sure.
Love the thought of the Queen with a corgi print Oodie! Grin

I also like to think that she is wearing fluffy pyjamas (ones with corgis on now you've mentioned it!) on her unseen bottom half when she's on her video calls!

SunShinesBrightly · 27/10/2021 08:26

Apparently the stick is there for ‘the Queen’s comfort’. TBF, if I go on even a flat walk I take a walking pole/hiking stick and I’m just over half her age. If you’re a bit unsteady on your feet it’s there for reassurance more than anything.

I agree that the majority of comments have been in the spirit of the topic. I know some people have missed the point of the thread and are trying to turn it into some kind of morbid sweepstake, but hopefully most people have understood the intention.

Yes, so why this pointless thread, OP?

Why this pointless dig, @Cadent?

I think (just my opinion) 'London Bridge' will be enacted before the end of the year. It will be unparalleled - I was a teenager when Diana died but this will be on a whole different level.

Ozanj · 27/10/2021 08:37

I think she has at least 5-10 years left still. This lady is as tough as old boots and my guess is in the immediate future she will be forced into retirement (and Charles will have to take over as de facto regent) due to ill health rather than her death.

Roselilly36 · 27/10/2021 08:40

I am not a royalist, but honestly some of these comments have really shocked me. Very unnecessary.

mumda · 27/10/2021 08:43

@Incywinceyspider

This thread is disgusting. Regardless of what you think of the monarchy, she's a human being FFS. Leave her alone. Would you want someone speculating about your death?
It causes some people stress in their line of work. Event insurance discussions need to happen. You need to take into account the official mourning might interupt plans too.

She's an amazing woman and has been a fabulous queen and it will be sad for the country when she is gone. We are all human after all and considering the future is part of that.

Rangoon · 27/10/2021 08:50

The Queen's mother lived to 101.

TirednWorried · 27/10/2021 08:51

@PurpleFlower1983

I hope she makes it to her platinum jubilee. It would be an unfortunately fitting end to the crap last couple of years should we lose the Queen at this stage. No matter what your beliefs she has served the country dutifully her whole life and absolutely since she was 25. I think the Charles/Camilla/William monarchy will be something very different really. It’s sad.
Really distasteful and unclassy to speculate om someone's death.
RosehipOil · 27/10/2021 08:52

It all needs delegating out to the younger royals and she needs to just rest and do a few things that she really wants to do.

She looks really frail and should get a good rest.

JingsMahBucket · 27/10/2021 08:52

@olympicsrock

In case anyone else is wondering the platinum jubilee is Fev 22 celebrating 70 years of service. I think the Queen is such a hard working lady who has given this country her all. I think she will make OC Regent early next year after the jubilee and we will start hearing about that at Christmas.
Oh I thought the jubilee thing was in summer. Wasn’t there one about 10 years ago and it was in summer?

Anyway, if it’s in February now I could see her just about making it then kicking the bucket. I could also H & M returning for that event with the kids.

If Johnson and the rest of his ghoulish and slapdash Tory government were smart, they’d use protecting the Queen as a public service angle for mask wearing and social distancing over the winter. But, this government is a bunch of shallow racist teenagers so they probably haven’t thought about anything other than making money and being racist.

theDudesmummy · 27/10/2021 08:54

I don't think the thread is "disgusting " at all. Of course she is a human being but her death will have effects on millions of people's lives and sometimes their jobs in a way which would not be the case for any other human being. Things like event insurance do have to be considered.

theDudesmummy · 27/10/2021 08:58

@JingsMahBucket that's exactly what I was thinking about the Covid precautions, it would be a good message if it was put out that she is not coming to COP because it is a bad idea for people, especially older people, to be going to big events etc if they can participate remotely. But of course Johnson and his murderous band of idiots won't do that...

JingsMahBucket · 27/10/2021 09:02

@theDudesmummy exactly. Talk about a missed opportunity. Johnson could a faltering Churchill impression again and rally the troops. 🙄 At least this time it would vaguely be meaningful in trying to save an old lady. Oh well 🤷‍♀️

JinglingHellsBells · 27/10/2021 09:04

The Queen has made it clear for years that she will never 'retire'. It's not a word she has in her vocabulary.

From the day of her coronation she made it clear she would serve for her whole life.

Yes, others can step up and do more, but she will never step down.
