To think a 95 year-old woman slowing down is not that shocking?

Regardless of whether you are in favour of a royal family or not… is it really a shocker, or a crisis, that a 95 year-old woman is slowing down somewhat and missing engagements?

I personally am in favour of the royal family, and I hope nothing is seriously wrong with the Queen. But it’s not like she hasn’t been seen in months and there’s some great conspiracy to keep the reason a secret. She’s had one night in hospital and missed one engagement. She’s 95. Someone not having a few health problems at that age is a news story!

I know people are interested in royal stories, but realistically, ‘old woman not as young as she used to be’ isn’t news. For at least 25 years now, it’s been made clear the Queen won’t abdicate, but will hand over more responsibilities to Charles and, increasingly, William. Unless something major or out of ordinary happens, we don’t need a running commentary.

@lljkk

It comes across as a big lack of confidence in PC that she doesn't make PC into Prince Regent. But she's had a hard year with loss of PP, maybe could be harder than ever to step down from public life. Anyone recall her sitting away from family at PP's funeral? :(
"Sitting away from family" was due to social distancing. Why make something out of nothing ?
23minutesfromTulseHill · 27/10/2021 07:12

she is a woman with a family
Yes. That's the whole trouble.

For those worrying about the jubilee weekend and already having stuff booked - you're going to hate what happens to the TV schedules as and when Smile

TeloMere · 27/10/2021 07:14

Where did you get the impression people thought it was shocking OP ?

APerfectSky · 27/10/2021 07:19

Definitely some unkind comments on this thread (and I am not a monarchist by any stretch of the imaginary).

Maybe I'm being thick here, but why are people suggesting her death will be announced on the 13th November? What's the relevance of that date?

MissMarpleRocks · 27/10/2021 07:22

@WhereWeAreNow

Germans work hard alright
Nice. And the Queen Mother was Scottish I think..

So by your analogy I shouldn’t call myself British, which I am.

romatheroamer · 27/10/2021 07:24

As pps have said, a pretty unpleasant thread. It's fine not to like the monarchy as a system but some posts verge on the psychotic.

@julieca

There were people on MN saying Prince Philip was fine, doing well and would last for years yet, literally a few days before his death. She is obviously more ill than we are being told. No not a shock for a 95-year-old woman.
This. The way this is being bigged up on the news convinces me that there is more going in behind the scenes than is being publicised.

Poor Prince Charles. He will only get a 'proper' job when he is already an old man and he will only get it because his mother dies. What a ridiculous system. What a horrible life.

MangoIce · 27/10/2021 07:26

As an aside… these “climate change summits” should be done via video conferencing if the people attending are so concerned about the planet. Instead of travelling down in private jets and having lavish parties before/after the conference. Not very eco friendly.

Luckily I have Netflix and a full Skybox.
mustlovegin · 27/10/2021 07:31

Shes done well to last this long

It's quite remarkable, yes

Incywinceyspider · 27/10/2021 07:34

This thread is disgusting. Regardless of what you think of the monarchy, she's a human being FFS. Leave her alone. Would you want someone speculating about your death?

olympicsrock · 27/10/2021 07:40

In case anyone else is wondering the platinum jubilee is Fev 22 celebrating 70 years of service. I think the Queen is such a hard working lady who has given this country her all.
I think she will make OC Regent early next year after the jubilee and we will start hearing about that at Christmas.

Jamallama · 27/10/2021 07:44

She's 95, it's hardly surprising that she has a few health gripes.
It's not like she's gonna throw down her walking stick and start doing a Highland fling with it to show she's still got it.

TheAntiGardener · 27/10/2021 07:50

Some of the comments on here have gone beyond merely horrible into downright ghoulish.

(To clarify, not SilverBirch’s comment, which seems pretty normal in context.)

Justcallmebebes · 27/10/2021 07:53

"Anyone recall her sitting away from family at PP's funeral?" sad

She was made to. Covid

Aspiringmatriarch · 27/10/2021 07:56

I really hope she's OK. Sad

Cactus1982 · 27/10/2021 07:57

The appearance of a walking stick isn’t all that shocking given she’s 95 and has done very well to manage without one till now. My Grandad lived to his late 90’s and has been using one for about ten years by that point. I’d imagine she’s one of those stubborn elderly people who will have resisted it until now, I can’t imagine her using one of those electric scooters her mum used to use either.

fleurbelle · 27/10/2021 08:03

@JackieCollinshasnoauthority

Lazy cow.
🤣
londonrach · 27/10/2021 08:04

She's 95 she lost her husband her grandson is giving her alot of stress as is her son. In my work I've found that if your husband or wife of x amount of years dies you chance of dying within a year is vvv high. She needs to rest, grieve and look after her health.

MarshaBradyo · 27/10/2021 08:04

I don’t blame her for not going, it would be exhausting being on for all of it

But I do think it’s a news story - people care which isn’t that bad

terrywynne · 27/10/2021 08:06

Has Zoom become the "hoover" of the video conferencing industry? Because I'm that photo she is not using Zoom. Misses point of thread entirely...

And no it is not surprising she is slowing down but people read royal news so it's going to get reported. Speculating about her death does feel distasteful however (and in previous centuries would have been considered treason)

mylovelydd · 27/10/2021 08:06

Some really vile replies on this thread.

Utterly horrible.

IndecentCakes · 27/10/2021 08:07

Aw, who among us hasn't tried to get out if a boring meeting? She's sitting in her Corgi print Oodie thingy playing PS5 for sure.

This is an inevitable part of monarchy. Her death is an event of huge public importance.
