How much would you spend on Halloween decorations

I've spent about £50 quid on some posh fabric pumpkins and other assorted stuff.

Make. Me. Feel. Better. What have you spent?

I spent a tenner about 10 years ago, they come out every year like old friends.

shallIswim · 27/10/2021 15:26

Pumpkins only when the kids were young. And an old tattered plastic bat which was dragged out of hibernation every year and hung just inside the front door

LuckyAmy1986 · 27/10/2021 15:30

We have decorations but they come out every year like our Christmas ones. I don't see anything wrong with them unless you are going to bin them after one use.

Burnt0utMum · 27/10/2021 15:42

I've spent quite a lot this year but it's not stuff that will end up in landfill. £36 on pumpkins (we went pumpkin picking and got lots of different styles plus 3 huge ones for that price). Wouldn't spend that much every year but it was a nice experience. £20 on twig tree decorations which will be used every year. £15 on Halloween mugs which will probably be used all year 😂. About £15 on other bits of decoration. £20 each for 2 kids costumes, 50p each toffee apples, £2 apples for apple bobbing. A few more £ for cupcake decorations. £3 sweets for trick or treaters. I love this time of year and don't mind spending a bit extra to make it memorable.

Nothing. The most I used to do was have a pumpkin for the children to carve. In my opinion it is a complete waste of money but fully appreciate that others think differently

unluckyinlife · 27/10/2021 16:48

I spent £3 on a Halloween backdrop and cardboard wall decorations. I spent £3 on a large pumpkin.

Every thing else will be crafts made by the kids. They enjoy making them more than the actual decorating.

degsydoodoos · 27/10/2021 16:53

£2 on a large pumpkin 🎃

ASDFamily · 27/10/2021 17:03

£0

We don't join in with Halloween, we do have a pumpkin that was a freebie from Morrions though!

Chelyanne · 27/10/2021 17:05

I buy something new each year and use them yearly, got quite a collection building.
Only bought a skull shaped bowl this year, it was £5.

Hesma · 27/10/2021 20:46

The last few years I’ve bought stuff after the event at a fraction of the price and I keep it from one year to the next

Squirrelblanket · 27/10/2021 20:54

£1 on a pumpkin. Halloween Grin

Idony · 27/10/2021 22:47

None. I'm not a child or an idiot.

Newwifeatnumber10 · 27/10/2021 22:48

Zero pounds !

ParkheadParadise · 27/10/2021 23:19

Well, I went to home bargains today and spent £££ on sweets and treats. I also placed an order with my neighbour's teenage daughter for Halloween cupcakes.
All the Grumps on this thread are invited to my door on Halloween for a Halloween bag and cupcake🧙‍♀️ 🧁 😂😂

XenoBitch · 27/10/2021 23:21

I have spent a fortune over the years. Tended to get the animated ones from The Range, and the classy stuff from TK Maxx/Home Sense.
Everything got reused every year.

KurtWildeWitchOfTheWoods · 27/10/2021 23:30

Thinking of starting a thread on AIBU ..

AIBU to think there's a load of miserable buggers on MN these days?

MazzleDazzle · 27/10/2021 23:33

I don’t think it’s wasteful if you reuse everything. Some people change the colour scheme of their Christmas decorations to match their decor, which is more wasteful.

I’ve only started decorating my house at Halloween over the last few years. I add to it each year and reuse everything. We buy pumpkins for carving and the kids also made lanterns out of old jam jars that we bring out every year too. Halloween and bonfire night are my favourite times of the year - more so than Christmas! Less expectation and stress, but just as much fun.

MazzleDazzle · 27/10/2021 23:37

@KurtWildeWitchOfTheWoods YANBU.

AliceMcK · 27/10/2021 23:45

Varies each year, spent about £50 this year on decorations as bought a couple of new things I wouldn’t normally buy, animated outside decorations. We have a far bigger front garden this year and the DCs wanted to do something scary. I usually try and buy in clearances, last year I bought blood hand balloons for 10p a pack & day of the dead decs for 10p each too. Also get cheap costumes for the kids for 29p from Aldi. But I love a good bargain.

Plus a further £75 on a Halloween adventure, DH took the DCs today, he said it was really fun, lots of a activities for the kids, pumpkin picking, bouncy castles, adventure course, crazy golf, slime making, pumpkin carving. In the past we’ve done brick or treat at legoland but that can get expensive with hotels and everything that goes with it.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 27/10/2021 23:49

£11 on pumpkins from a pumpkin field. £15 on Halloween lego. £35 on a mix of bits from TK Maxx and B&M so far this year. Oh and I bought a wooden witch which is technically for the Christmas tree in York last week. I love Halloween, it's our wedding anniversary.

KurtWildeWitchOfTheWoods · 28/10/2021 00:03

I love the stuff from TKMaxx, I know someone who works there and she texts me as soon as they're putting out the Halloween decorations.

I also picked up some fab ceramic dishes from One Below, pumpkin ones and black creature type ones. They'll be perfect for my chilli that I serve at the Halloween party. And they'll last for years.

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 28/10/2021 00:07

Around £15 including sweets and pumpkins. Everything gets reused every year and we make quite a lot of decorations.
