I've spent about £50 quid on some posh fabric pumpkins and other assorted stuff.

Make. Me. Feel. Better. What have you spent?

Absolutely nothing.

SpookyPumpkinPants · 27/10/2021 01:25

Well the pants obviously 🎃 🎃

Other than those (£0) nothing
this year (yet, at least), I couldn't find anything online that inspired me & haven't been to the usual suspect shops! I can't even get the other decorations out of the loft!

rorylouis · 27/10/2021 01:26

I buy something for about £5 every year. Have done this for many years but the rule is it has to be reusable. We have some fairy lights, a ceramic pumpkin, some lanterns (use these all year round anyway) and a nice large spider but everything comes out each year.

It brings us much joy, as it does the neighbours kids. I limit myself to about £5 each year because otherwise I would spend £££. As long as they're reusable I wouldn't worry OP! Happy Halloween!

ZenNudist · 27/10/2021 01:34

I have bought 2 pumpkins so £3 this year. I spent quite a lot last year getting fairy lights and window stickers which I need to put up for one night only when I get back from holiday. I will probably not use them much this year because of said holiday.

I'm assuming your purchases are for several years so don't think unreasonable. Dc like decorating for Halloween

BubbleCoffee · 27/10/2021 02:04

One pumpkin and a tea light. The end

steff13 · 27/10/2021 02:15

This year I needed new headstones for my cemetery, and new fog juice and spider webs, so I didn't spend that much. I probably spent about $75 all together. Next year I'll probably get a new animatronic, so it will be more.

Madwife123 · 27/10/2021 02:45

@Needspace21

Did you forget this is mumsnet where everyone claims to feed a family of 5 for a week with a single chicken and only buy their children a pair of socks for Christmas.

I spent £20 this year on a doorbell that makes a noise and lights up when you press it. We have many decorations from previous years though and tend to add one thing each year. So we have a projector set up at the window. Pumpkin lights in the trees. A grave stone and half buried skeleton in the garden. My children love it and the decorations are reused each year and built up over time. I don’t really care if people call it wasteful, it’s a small price to see my children excited.

Madwife123 · 27/10/2021 02:49

@MistyGreenAndBlue I need a tutorial on how you made those ghosts please. They look amazing!

steff13 · 27/10/2021 02:57

This is the beginning of our cemetery. I hadn't put up the headstones yet because it was too windy. The lawn mower was just an idea I got this year. $5 on red spray paint and a bag of rubber organs from Amazon. I'm going to stuff an old pair of my son's pants and stick it out from the front of the mower, so it looks like it ran over someone. I have a couple animatronics, Helga, she had a headstone and her arm is holding her head. She talks when you walk past. And a huge brown spider that jumps out at you when you walk by. They don't go out until trick-or-treat, though, because they're $$$.

Nothing. Dc2 got some Hallowe'en craft activities with this month's Toucan box and has made a shiny ghost, some spiders, a wreath and a lantern. We found some Hallowe'en bunting that we made years ago as well. We'll just put that lot around the front door and change the bulb in the hall to the colour changing disco bulb and call it done. We have no money so can't get anything else even if we wanted to.

GTAlogic · 27/10/2021 03:14

Oh yes and I forgot, we also have a realistic skull that will wear a witch's hat and a skeleton vase thing that I'm going to put a battery tealight candle in and put them on the windowsill.

Petrarkanian · 27/10/2021 03:52

Nowt

PurpleEchoLamp · 27/10/2021 04:22

Halloween is silly!

IWentAwayIStayedAway · 27/10/2021 04:56

We are still using some £1 paper wall decorations from circa 2006 👻🎃

DedalusBloom · 27/10/2021 05:49

I'm pagan and love Halloween. I'm witchy all year round but in October I go full Morticia.

I'm working this Sunday so won't be in for the trick or treating but I spent £28 on some velvet glittered mushrooms which I've added to my mantelpiece display which already had pumpkins and taxidermied mice. Grin

Usually spend £20 to £30 each year and have built up quite a good collection over time, including giant 6ft spiders, skeletons, tableware and a smoke machine. I really want a giant mechanised Jack O Lantern, it’s £1000 but I’m hoping it might be in the sales. I do keep an eye out in the sales for stuff to keep for the following year.

I love decorating the house for trick or treat.

Alongside this, we celebrate Samhain, so it’s quite a big deal for my family. Not as big as Yule/Christmas but still a very special time of year.

Hydrate · 27/10/2021 06:40

Not much, the stuff from we have is years old. It was just cheap stuff anyways, cobwebs and spiders and a hanging Frankenstein. Used to carve pumpkins when my DC were young but I have an electric one now. Not giving out treats this year, nobody will be out.

Icebreaker99 · 27/10/2021 06:58

£60 on decorations - which consists of a resin countdown to be reused every year and hopefully passed on to my child, and Etsy items and Emma Bridgewater.

£30 on costumes - all charity shop, eBay (used) and etsy

£10 on sweets for trick or treaters

So £100 plus various activities booked.

I love Halloween, I try and be mindful of what I buy so anything that can't be used again e.g. costumes which will be grown out of are all purchased second hand.

RampantIvy · 27/10/2021 07:02

£0
However, DD adores Halloween and reuses the decorations I bought when she was little. She is a student now, and I took her Halloween decorations to her when I visited her recently. Some of the decorations must be over 10 years old now.

Banani · 27/10/2021 07:04

We’re having a little party for the kids this year so have spent about £20 on various craft bits to make decorations plus we have bits we’ve made previous years m. Have then spent about the same again on party food and prizes. Most decorations will go away ready for next year.

Banani · 27/10/2021 07:05

Costumes have come from eBay, cheap but paid for by selling last years.

FuzzyPuffling · 27/10/2021 07:06

Nothing. Ever.
Call me Funsponge.

DinosApple · 27/10/2021 07:12

I bought pumpkins and the DC have made paper bats to stick on our front door. The spiders are providing the cobwebs Halloween Wink.

They're having friends over so can make whatever they want during the day to hang up, but I'm not buying any more tat.

KurtWildeWitchOfTheWoods · 27/10/2021 08:17

Glad someone mentioned Samhain, as a pagan that's what I celebrate, alongside the more spooky modern Halloween for my DC. It's always been a big thing in my family, as is Yule (which we combine with Christmas for family members who aren't pagan),

Artie30 · 27/10/2021 08:19

I haven't spent much in one go. I've gradually built a small collection over the years. Haven't bought much this year though!

If you can afford it, who cares! I'm hoping to spend some money on Christmas decks this year!
