I've spent about £50 quid on some posh fabric pumpkins and other assorted stuff.

Make. Me. Feel. Better. What have you spent?

About a tenner. I have the same paper streamers and plastic and ornaments that I've been using for 10 years. And I have 3 big cardboard skeletons. And 5 or 6 rubber bats!

Redglitter · 26/10/2021 21:01

Nothing. ..I hate Halloween

Loved it last year when people just decorated their house but noone came to the door

GoingOutOutNEVER · 26/10/2021 21:02

49p on a pumpkin
£1 on sweets

Whatwouldnanado · 26/10/2021 21:02

Day before Halloween a few years ago my two kids wanted friends to have a sleep over party. I went out to see what was left in the shops and came back with a small pumpkin. Meanwhile the kids hung up balloons in white bin liners, ragged the bottoms and drawn ghost faces on them. They drew spooky faces on oranges from the fruit bowl and put them on the mantle piece and decorated the windows with cut out bat and spider shapes. It was great and didn't cost a penny.

XingMing · 26/10/2021 21:02

Nothing.

DarkestBeforeDawn · 26/10/2021 21:03

Nothing. I don't do Halloween.

Makesmilingyourbesthobby · 26/10/2021 21:03

I add one item every year to my witches window and door decorations Some years it could just be a cheap toad to be jumping from the misty cauldron to our eyeball doorbell that watches you and then I also make some with the kids every year with the kids this year it’s playdough and painted fingers and eyeballs and also witches cardboard books out of cereal boxes which the kids love making and then the kids carved pumpkins for the doorway

Mogloveseggs · 26/10/2021 21:06

About ten quid altogether over the last few years and they come out every year. Will get pumpkins tomorrow and then they go to a bloke in the village who feeds birds and wildlife on his allotment with them after Halloween.

Snowisfallinghere · 26/10/2021 21:06

I've got a box of cheap Halloween decorations that probably cost me £50 in total but spread over about 10 years! I definitely wouldn't spend £50 every year but personally I think there's nothing wrong with a one off spend on some seasonal decorations that bring you joy especially if you're going to get them out year after year.

I feel like with the pandemic many of us are cheering ourselves up with little things like putting up decorations to match the seasons.

DGFB · 26/10/2021 21:06

About £15 but we keep the decorations year after year

JingsMahBucket · 26/10/2021 21:07

@britespark1 those are so cute. Well done.

tintodeverano2 · 26/10/2021 21:07

Nothing. Don't bother decorating for hallowe'en, apart from a pumpkin but that gets eaten so it's not a waste.

ParkheadParadise · 26/10/2021 21:07

I've spent about £30 @Needspace21 on Halloween Decorations.
Dd is really into this year she's been to 2 parties already.
I'm going to home bargains tomorrow to buy sweets and goodies for the kids that will be at the door.
Enjoy your decorations👹😈🧙‍♀️🧙‍♀️

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 26/10/2021 21:07

I've spent quite a bit this year, perhaps about £40 in the odd £5-10 . We've done a window display for a pumpkin trail in our town and are having a few people round on Halloween itself for drinks. I'll keep the stuff for ages now though. I love any excuse to decorate especially in Autumn and Winter. Last time I bought halloween stuff was 6 years ago when it was the nearest Saturday to my 40th and I had a party. It was a great night - all the parents I knew bringing DC to trick or treat popped in for a drink.

speakupattheback · 26/10/2021 21:08

Fuck all.

KurtWildeWitchOfTheWoods · 26/10/2021 21:09

I have a box of decorations I add to every year. I've spent about £15 on new things this year. Plus pumpkins, but we'll be eating them not just carving them. Pumpkin curry, soup, risotto etc.

None of it goes in the landfill btw, I've been using some of these decorations since my eldest DD was born and she'll be 25 next year! No need to bin things if they're well looked after. Same goes for Christmas.

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/10/2021 21:10

I bought Boris the skeleton for £12.99 from Woolworths, Halloween 2004, when I was a fresher at uni. He lived in the communal kitchen of flat in halls until I moved out the following summer, at which point my parents rehomed him to their garden where he’s been a feature ever since. Every year they have to mend a bit more of his brittle bone syndrome with electrical tape 😁

Arrowheart · 26/10/2021 21:10

£0 I might print out some pics and stick them on the window but won't be buying anything

MajorCarolDanvers · 26/10/2021 21:11

£40 ish on some new lights and bits a pieces. I already have a lot do this just new for this year.

HunkyPunk · 26/10/2021 21:12

Make. Me. Feel. Better. What have you spent?

It’s sad that you need to buy things to feel better. What do you think is at the root of managing your feelings through consumption?

You’ve misunderstood, I think. The op was hoping posters would make her feel better about what she had spent by revealing their own profligacy! Sorry, op. I won’t be spending anything. Never did spend much, used to buy a pumpkin, and sweets for trick or treat, but as soon as my dc outgrew going out themselves, I ditched Halloween! Halloween Grin

chocolatecerealcampingbrekkie · 26/10/2021 21:13

I've bought two large pumpkins.I might buy two more. I don't plan on buying anything else.

Chakraleaf · 26/10/2021 21:15

1.50 on pumpkin
£3 on lights

britespark1 · 26/10/2021 21:15

@Wynston, @RightOnTheEdge, @JingsMahBucket thank you!

user64323 · 26/10/2021 21:16

Hmm, quite a lot but we are having a party for the first time and I plan to re-use them all every year. I've bought several paper garlands at £1 each, several paper honeycomb pumpkins, 5 sets of Halloween string lights, a large light up pumpkin, a skull, autumn leaf light up garland, a few quid on Halloween printables from Etsy, and lots of battery operated candles. Also £10 on a large pumpkin and a few quid on smaller pumpkins. I have also decorated with real leaves, branches, conkers and the kids have made lots of pictures and crafts and paint your own type decorations. Oh and more strings of lights and some serving bowls. Some lights I can re-use for Christmas. Anything I have bought that is plastic I have made sure it is not single use and will last for many years.

thegreenlight · 26/10/2021 21:16

I’ll make you feel better - £80 on pumpkins alone from the local pumpkin place, including one that cost £30 on its own and is enormous. £90 on an autumn wreath and probably about £150/£200 on stuff I get out every year (not including our projector which sadly broke last year) I will easily spend £400 on a Halloween party (not doing one this year as are in a hotspot) we have spent about £300 this month on Halloween events. I love Halloween. Life’s short, do what makes you happy and never come on mumsnet to seek validation. Especially about Halloween. Or Disneyworld. They hate that too.
