To ask how the fuck you iron your king size duvet covers?

And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

Really, life is too short.
But yes, buy all-cotton. Life is also too short to spend nights sweating in polycotton.

jamandmarmalade · 25/10/2021 14:59

You buy a thumpin great bedspread and keep that over that unironed duvet cover.

Fitted sheets are self ironing.

Life is short.

Job done.

ExConstance · 25/10/2021 14:59

I dry mine over the top bannister at home, I spread it out very carefully and leave it until it is bone dry. No ironing required then.

blink18two · 25/10/2021 14:59

@TatianaBis

You get a cleaner. I hate ironing.
I can't justify 'getting a cleaner' when I'm a SAHM.

@Mablefly

Hang over the bannister straight out of machine (or on the line in the summer). No noticeable creases!
I always hang on the airer, flat. Still got those little creases

I've gone the other way. Used to iron duvet covers and pillowcases and now don't bother. Life just got too traumatic and something had to give. Once they are on the bed I don't even notice the difference. I could tell you how to iron them, but that would just be the wrong thing to do. I prefer to save you from yourself.

MerryMarigold · 25/10/2021 14:59

I think they're a different type of creases though

A crease is a crease! It's the opposite of smooth!

Agree!

I hate polycotton

Course you can, you’re a SAH mother not a SAH cleaner.

smoko · 25/10/2021 15:00

Who the fuck irons doona covers & sheets?

Just hang them up & the sun/breeze removes wrinkles

Got not be fucked doing that.

Noooooo.

There are lived in creases, and creases that are obviously from washing and not ironing. Same with clothes!

I don't. I have a nice fancy bedspread that covers the sheet so I don't need to iron the sheets.

My son goes to nursery two days a week. I already feel bloody lazy!

I have never ironed bed linen in my life.

waferingstranger · 25/10/2021 15:01

I'm one of those who doesn't even own an iron. Better things to do with my time!

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 25/10/2021 15:01

I purposefully buy bedding that is already creased in texture so I never need to pick up an iron. I also have a velvet throw for going over my bed which would hide any creases. Fortunately though, it’s not something I give even the tiniest shit about (and I’m very house proud!).

I may have to pop over to White Company

OP I've never gone into someone else's house and my first thought on seeing their room is 'Wow, their bedding is so crisp!'. So few people see upstairs rooms and even fewer notice/give a crap what the bedding is like. I notice bad smells, really bad clutter, torn or dirty things, and even then I would think what can I do to help, not how bad their standards are. Save your time and energy for more important stuff.

merrymouse · 25/10/2021 15:02

@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy

Fold them in half and iron one side then flip and do the other.

With fitted sheets you fold in half matching the corner seems and hook the corner over the end of the board, iron that section, flip over and hook the other corner, iron that section, then hook a corner so you have the top edge section on the board, iron, then pull the sheet towards you and iron a section at a time.

I iron for a living and this is how I get perfect results.

The answer is pay Rachel to do this!
Backtomyoldname · 25/10/2021 15:02

We never do.

Get the bedding wash first thing, usually 2 loads.

Dry/ Tumble

Back on the bed.

No irons are used in the production of fresh bed linen!

1forAll74 · 25/10/2021 15:02

You don't need to iron a duvet cover or any bedding, whether line dried or tumble dried, you just lay it out on the bed or wherever, and smooth it all over with hands, and then fold it neatly, or straight onto the duvet.

This is not a duvet and iron thing, but I have three cats, and one of them only, always waits around when I am putting a clean duvet cover on my duvet, on my bed, and as soon as I start to wrangle with the cover, he jumps into the open end, and starts rolling about inside the duvet, and running about with his cat play. He is not a kitten now, he is about 10 years old. I once fastened the duvet cover up for a joke, and he went to sleep in there until released, !

I don't have to be bothered about cat hairs, as I have had three cats for years now.

blink18two · 25/10/2021 15:02

@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy you're not in York by any chance?!

OP posts:
Exhaustedyetstillgoing · 25/10/2021 15:03

Same as @RachelHasThoseInBurgundy fold it in half - (head end to feet end) and iron one side and then the other. I do have a wide ish ironing board and it almost fits width ways, so a wee bit of a shuggle from side to side as you go.

It looks so much better, fresh and crisp, I find it sits better. I think un-ironed pillowcases look grim Wink

I enjoy ironing and would like to tell those who don't to please stop telling us who do not hate it to stop!!

passionfruitpizza · 25/10/2021 15:03

I don't iron anything.

starfishmummy · 25/10/2021 15:03

I dont either. I do the pillow slips because they feel nicer.

Like a PP I would occasionally take them to a local cleaners/launderers but they were closed during the first lockdown and have now closed completely.
