And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

@Exhaustedyetstillgoing

Same as *@RachelHasThoseInBurgundy* fold it in half - (head end to feet end) and iron one side and then the other. I do have a wide ish ironing board and it almost fits width ways, so a wee bit of a shuggle from side to side as you go.

It looks so much better, fresh and crisp, I find it sits better. I think un-ironed pillowcases look grim Wink

I enjoy ironing and would like to tell those who don't to please stop telling us who do not hate it to stop!!

Pillow cases do indeed sit better!

We don't even have duvet covers! We have coverless duvets now so the whole thing just gets chucked in the washing machine and drier and then stuck back on the bed. I've wrestled with my last duvet cover!

Xiaoxiong · 25/10/2021 15:04

I hang them dry, and shake them a lot to get them as flat as I can when hanging. I have a pulley maid that fits a duvet cover folded in half, and the weight pulls out a lot of the creases.

Exhaustedyetstillgoing · 25/10/2021 15:04

Oh and I don't iron the sheet - but I have in the past and basically did the middle and then ran the iron round inside the gathered edge iyswim.

musicviking1 · 25/10/2021 15:05

I don't tend to, if I feel the need to then I give them a very quick going over and fold them very well.

Ya need an ironette or similar. Or of course just dgaf.
I dont own iron, for the very few items I own that need ironing I take to the launderette when necessary.

Libertaire · 25/10/2021 15:06

I don’t. Never have, never will.

Life is way, way too short for any of that nonsense.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/10/2021 15:06

I never do! I hang them on the line, straight, and then fold them straight from the line.
No need to iron at all.

icedcoffees · 25/10/2021 15:07

I'm 32 and have never once ironed anything in my life. I've never owned nor used an iron, lol. Life is way too short.

SylvanasWindrunner · 25/10/2021 15:09

What's it made of?

Convenience and saved time. (No idea)

Exhaustedyetstillgoing · 25/10/2021 15:09

@cardibach

Standards are important Yes, they are, but not these sort of silly self imposed ones, *@blink18two* The standards that matter are about behaviour and how you treat people. In terms of house keeping, everything being hygienic and as comfortable as you can manage. A few creases in a duvet cover? Not a standard that matters at all. Sleep in it once and it’s creased anyway…and fitted sheets are stretched on the mattress so definitely don’t need ironing even for your spurious ‘standards’. I hate when people try to suggest pointless housework is a moral issue.
You do know that the two are NOT mutually exclusive? I can be a nice kind person with a clean hygienic house ..... and iron bedding?

Me almost thinks you doth protest too much.

OP - you do you - if that involves ironing your king size duvet cover crack on!

Audreyhelp · 25/10/2021 15:10

Just fold and then iron i love ironed sheets .

jamandmarmalade · 25/10/2021 15:10

I don't iron. It's against my religion.

muddyford · 25/10/2021 15:11

I fold mine end to end, making sure there are no creases caught inside, then fold again side to side. Then I iron both manageable size sides, fold and put in the airing cupboard. Ironed bed linen feels so much nicer to get into and as for wrinkly pillowcases, I couldn't sleep on them.

blink18two · 25/10/2021 15:11

I'm enjoying the competitive under-ironing Grin

If this was an 'unpopular opinions' thread mine would be:

"People definitely look scruffier with un-ironed clothes. Even t shirts."

@forrestgreen

Super king, I have two single duvets as putting the covers on is impossible. And I don't iron them
Put the duvet inside out, better with two people, put duvet cover over top corners, one person holds those corners and you pull the duvet the whole way down.

I actually sleep on a silk pillowcase

yes to this - Sunday afternoon - huge mug of tea - catch up on recordings from the week or a boxset - I find ironing relaxing and I enjoy it !

tiredanddangerous · 25/10/2021 15:13

I can honestly say that never once in all my 42 years has it crossed my mind to iron a duvet cover.

SiobhanSharpe · 25/10/2021 15:13

I never iron anything. When i worked the cleaner did the sheets and shirts, since then they all go to the ironing place, costs about 25 quid a month.
(Rural. Or rather, it did, now that I've moved to the big city it's more like 40. ☹️)

Dillydollydingdong · 25/10/2021 15:14

RockinHorseShit · 25/10/2021 15:14

I don't... tumble dryer & smoothed & folded immediately
