To ask how the fuck you iron your king size duvet covers?

And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

@StoneofDestiny

I've ironed despite being full time worker. Have a busy life socially and a work - I don't like ironing, but couldn't imagine going to work in unironed shirt or blouse or sending kids to school in unironed shirts and trousers. Even a T-shirt or jumper looks a crumpled mess out of the dryer or off the line - I've clearly not got the knack.
Do people send kids into school without ironing their shirts and trousers?

@blink18two

What's your secret? 100% cotton?

Good quality bedding and plenty fabric conditioner!

blink18two · 26/10/2021 17:55

@Hellsbells35

Just had never crossed my mind in that way. I brush my teeth as I don’t want them to fall out, shower as I don’t want to smell - but see this more as a necessity than a standards thing.

I am very chilled out though, and don’t take life very seriously at all.

Do you mean to come across as faux-naive? Surely you understand other people view things differently?

I never iron duvet covers or sheets, only the pillowcases.
As others have said, life is too short for all of that.😁

wolfmom · 26/10/2021 17:56

My iron is only used for weddings, funerals and crafts. Life is too short

OverByYer · 26/10/2021 17:57

I don’t

Tiggy321 · 26/10/2021 17:58

I iron only our duvet covers - kids don’t get done. Fold in half and then do it. It takes a while but lovely to sleep in plus love putting my head on ironed pillow cases!!

sunshinedaysp · 26/10/2021 17:58

I iron it once it's on the bed! Just got over the whole thing a few times.

ThinWomansBrain · 26/10/2021 18:00

Iron?

shake it flat before hanging on an airer.

riceuten · 26/10/2021 18:00

Unless you're running a hotel, show home, or shop display, to use the IT vernacular, WTFP ? How long does it take before they look crinkled - even with a light sleeper like me - 30 seconds ?

That said, I do know someone who changes the sheets to the bed EVERY DAY and her poor husband irons each and every one of them.

She also never uses the same towels twice, wears two complete sets of clothing every day (down to pants, socks and bras) - and yes, all of these are ironed as well.

Unsurprisingly, their washing machine generally conks out after a year.

Hellsbells35 · 26/10/2021 18:01

School polos and trousers don’t need ironing

YesPleaseMary · 26/10/2021 18:03

I do agree with the “life’s too short” side in general but there is something very pleasant about getting into fresh, clean, cool, pressed sheets. So I iron my white cotton bedding but just fold the other sets.

BirdyBirdyTweetTweet · 26/10/2021 18:05

I don't. 🤷‍♀️

starfishmummy · 26/10/2021 18:12

Flat sheets are so much easier
No wrestling them on to the mattress (even though they are allegedly the correct size they are always too small), and they fold much more easily. If I should feel the urge to iron them, then thats easy too

restingbitchface30 · 26/10/2021 18:14

Very sorry for your loss. However life is too short to iron duvet covers. That half hour spent could be spent with a big fat piece of cake or a glass of wine. No one cares if your sheets are ironed.

icelolly99 · 26/10/2021 18:15

I iron my 100% cotton white king-size duvet cover and pillow cases but I don't iron anything else....unless a shirt really needs it.
Wash, dry, fold, put away. Job done.
Nothing else needs ironing; especially not school uniforms.

BigYellowHat · 26/10/2021 18:15

I don’t. Straight out of the tumble drier and onto the bed.

lisaandalan · 26/10/2021 18:16

I fold it in half and ironing all the way down one side and the turn it over and do the other. X

mumda · 26/10/2021 18:17

Because it's unnecessary use of energy and your time.
If Jo Lumley cam suggest rationing as an answer to climate change I think we need to consider the waste that can be eliminated. The use of electricity around the world wasted on ironing must be huge.

Lotusmonster · 26/10/2021 18:18

If you can, outdoor washing line drying no iron is perfect. Thank you Mother Nature!

mousey37 · 26/10/2021 18:20

I dry them on the line, they don’t need ironing after that.

DemBonesDemBones · 26/10/2021 18:31

I've never even considered I should be Blush

Balldog · 26/10/2021 18:35

I agree with you OP - standards ARE important! I iron all our bedding inlcuding Kingsize duvet covers and fitted sheets. I have a giant sized ironing board and cordless iron which help. Fold duvet cover in half - spray with ironing starch as you iron down the duvet - turn over and repeat. Fitted sheets - fold in half putting corner seams inside each other. Iron a section then move it round, etc. Starch gives a great finish. I usually iron whilst listening to an audio book. I find ironing very therapeutic. I'm sorry that the current generation think ironing is a waste of time. I wonder what they do with the time they save. Grin

HeronLanyon · 26/10/2021 18:37

To be honest once mine are dry I fold them kind of carefully and put them on a shelf where they are pressed together themselves. Kind of natural pressing. In a press even !

Trudij123 · 26/10/2021 18:42

My mum used to fold them and put them on the ironing board, iron everything else using them as a base and they were done.
