To ask how the fuck you iron your king size duvet covers?

And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

I don't iron bedding

Supermum29 · 26/10/2021 17:34

I had terrible non iron bedding that required more ironing than anything in my life!! If I must iron the bedding then I either fold it in half or if I’m especially lazy I spray with crease release spray and iron it when it’s on the bed!

mumda · 26/10/2021 17:35

You do know ironing is bad for the environment?

CSIblonde · 26/10/2021 17:38

100% cotton takes forever to dry & looks terrible even ironed. I buy poly cotton mix & never iron them. They are decent quality & don't go all thin like real cotton dies with wear .

wildchild554 · 26/10/2021 17:39

I don't, wash them, dry them on the line then fold them straight away, don't need ironing, there's enough to do already ;)

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 26/10/2021 17:40

I iron the edges especially the open edge where the buttons are so they do up properly and lie flat. Then I do them up and fold the quilt cover in half and iron it in sections. Then fold it up and put it away. Looks great in the bed. I agree with you OP! Standards!!

IntermittentParps · 26/10/2021 17:40

I don't think 100% cotton looks terrible, and I barely know where my iron is. It also dries overnight on my ceiling airer.
Even if it looks 'terrible' by someone else's standards though, I'd rather that than sweat in polycotton.

OhPatti · 26/10/2021 17:41

Ah Mumsnet, possibly the only spot on the internet where a question about ironing can result in a pile-on.

MrsPetty · 26/10/2021 17:41

I wash mine. The laundry dry and press. It feels so much nicer to get into ironed sheets. It just does!

Buy a trouser press. That's what B&B's often use if they do it themselves.

I don't! They go ok the bed right from the line. Nobody sees them but us and they will wrinkle up with use anyway, so what is the point?

Bekstar · 26/10/2021 17:45

I iron on a low heat when I put them on bed, I run the iron over it carefully, same with sheets has to be a low heat due to the duvet and mattress but always falls into place for me

Hellsbells35 · 26/10/2021 17:45

Serious question.

You say “standards are important!”. Can you explain why and to whom?

I tend to iron one item every two months Confused

StoneofDestiny · 26/10/2021 17:47

I iron things while watching TV - no big chore. The king sized duvet cover is a PITA to iron as I have a small ironing board - but basically I do it in sections and it works fine - polycotton is easier.
I'd never put in un-ironed bedding - doesn't look right.I'd never iron a fitted sheet - the stretching irons it!
Never even able to pull anything out of a dryer that looks ironed.

Hellsbells35 · 26/10/2021 17:48

That doesn’t explain it OP. Standards to you, but why are they important? I just don’t get it and want to

MooseBreath · 26/10/2021 17:48

I only use our iron if we're going to a job interview, a wedding, or a funeral. Life's too short.

linsey2581 · 26/10/2021 17:49

Easy, put the cover on the quilt then iron the duvet easy peasy.

Why aren't they important?

Surely if you don't view standards* as important, you'd never wash, clean, dress nicely, etc?

I dry and fold mine then when I need to use them iron them when they’re on the bed.

StoneofDestiny · 26/10/2021 17:51

I've ironed despite being full time worker. Have a busy life socially and a work - I don't like ironing, but couldn't imagine going to work in unironed shirt or blouse or sending kids to school in unironed shirts and trousers. Even a T-shirt or jumper looks a crumpled mess out of the dryer or off the line - I've clearly not got the knack.

Hellsbells35 · 26/10/2021 17:52

Just had never crossed my mind in that way. I brush my teeth as I don’t want them to fall out, shower as I don’t want to smell - but see this more as a necessity than a standards thing.

I am very chilled out though, and don’t take life very seriously at all.
