To ask how the fuck you iron your king size duvet covers?

And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

Fold in half. Do one half at a time, moving it upward as you go. Then turn it over and do the other half in the same way. An extra large ironing board helps!

Patapouf · 25/10/2021 18:22

I think there are things worth having standards about and things that are a total waste of time and energy. Ironing bed sheets is a waste of existence on earth.

According to you that is. I think watching TV is a waste of existence on earth, so are many other things people do.

Funnily enough we still have control over deciding how we want to spend our time on earth without being dictated to by other people.

DroopyClematis · 25/10/2021 18:31

I know that MN loves Egyptian cotton with a high thread count but this really needs ironing.
I've got John Lewis cotton percale and it just needs to come out of the tumble drier as soon as possible, given a good shake then it's good to go.

Obviouslynotallthere · 25/10/2021 18:38

Wash inside out then fold in half and peg the open end on the line. Then fold when dry. Same with fitted sheets. Air in the airing cupboard
Job done. I only iron pillow cases.

ElephantOfRisk · 25/10/2021 18:50

Ours is from dipanddoze.com as it comes with a 30 day trial and I was sick of buying bedding that DH was allergic to. Until it's been washed and used, you can't tell if it's okay or not. This stuff has been perfect for us and is pretty good just out the machine and hung to dry over the bannister. My only issue is that the bannister isn't long enough to accommodate it without squishing it a bit.

LittleDandelionClock · 25/10/2021 18:50

There's some really rude and unpleasant comments on here. Sad Take no notice @blink18two

These are the people who say, if someone asks 'have you watched Love Island/Strictly/Big Coronation Street - 'no I haven't, as I have a life, and I have an I.Q. higher than 10.'

So rude and obnoxious. Hmm

When me DH were at someone's party some ten years ago, DH said to this one couple 'have you been watching Big Brother?' and the man in the couple said 'Oh God no! I thought better of you actually, than to watch that garbage.' Horrible snob. Hmm

Stickyblue1987 · 25/10/2021 19:00

I don't iron bedding. I buy non iron sheets and my duvet covers and pillowcases are the type that don't need ironed.

Eatingsoupwithafork · 25/10/2021 19:08

Did it once won’t do it again Grin

tootootaataa · 25/10/2021 19:09

I don't.

Life is too short

Gemma2019 · 25/10/2021 19:14

I wash and dry mine then put it on the bed straight away while warm and iron it while it's flat on the bed. Then I put the duvet in and make the bed.

LoislovesStewie · 25/10/2021 19:22

Wash, tumble dry, fold while still hot and into airing cupboard. I haven't ironed sheets or duvet covers in donkeys years.

Youdoyoutoday · 25/10/2021 19:29

I don't iron them anymore as life is really too short. However when hanging them up to dry, give them a good shake, fold in half and half again and smooth them out then they don't need ironing.

I rarely iron anymore, as anything that does need ironing I hang on hangers to dry. Haven't ironed anything for about a year, maybe more.

FangsForTheMemory · 25/10/2021 19:31

I only iron pillow cases and the couple of flat sheets I have.

mumoftinyterrors · 25/10/2021 19:39

So many people don't iron their sheets?!? 😮😮😮😮 I'm genuinely shocked. I thought everyone did. One of my greatest pleasures in life is clean, ironed sheets on my bed. If I could, I'd change them every day 🤣

ladygindiva · 25/10/2021 19:41

I don't, but I used to work in a hotel, we would iron them on the bed.

ALongHardWinter · 25/10/2021 19:46

I don't! I just wash it and flatten and straighten it out as much as possible before hanging up to dry. Life's too short to iron a duvet cover!

DeepaBeesKit · 25/10/2021 19:48

I dont iron. I don't care it what it looks like, it's where I'm sleeping, not a work of art. The sheets being ironed or otherwise doesnt affect the function of the bed.

cardibach · 25/10/2021 19:49

@blink18two

I'm enjoying the competitive under-ironing Grin

If this was an 'unpopular opinions' thread mine would be:

"People definitely look scruffier with un-ironed clothes. Even t shirts."

Hmmm. I apologised because you said you weren’t being judgey. I see you ate, in fact, judgey and worry about appearances. People don’t look scruffier. If they did wha5 does it matter?
GinJeanie · 25/10/2021 19:50

Linen bedding is great- it's meant to be creased (relaxed). No ironing needed!

Twocrabs30 · 25/10/2021 19:50

You don’t, life is too short for tasks like this.

Imposterish · 25/10/2021 19:52

I don’t iron. Anything. I find it adds little value and robs time from my busy work-life balancing thingy. So we don’t do it.

Rosscameasdoody · 25/10/2021 19:53

So sorry for your loss and very impressed you’re ‘upping your game’ to honour her memory. I love ‘clean sheet night’ and always iron my duvet covers and pillowcases, although I don’t use a flat sheet so don’t iron the fitted sheet - just smooth and fold when it comes out of the drier or off the line. I have a king size duvet and I get my partner or my mum (who lives with us) to help me fold the duvet in half lengthways, and then again into a long strip. I’ve got a good thick pad on the ironing board and a reflector board cover that irons both sides, so all I do is iron down the length and then when I get to the end, flip it over and do the same again. Hope that makes sense.

Rosscameasdoody · 25/10/2021 19:55

Sorry - missed out the word ‘cover’. I don’t iron the duvet !!

You get a cleaner. I hate ironing.

I can't justify 'getting a cleaner' when I'm a SAHM.“

Why? I had cleaners when I was at home with my small ones. Far rather have spent my time with them than ironing bedding.
