And fitted sheets?

I recently lost my grandmother and I have decided that I need to bloody well up my standards a bit - she had very high standards, and she's right!

I'm quite good at ironing generally, even work shirts but I just can't work out how to iron a massive duvet cover without it taking hours/being bloody difficult

@icedcoffees

I'm 32 and have never once ironed anything in my life. I've never owned nor used an iron, lol. Life is way too short.
This!!!!!
bananafruitcake · 25/10/2021 16:29

I fold them over and then again and iron both sides. Then keep on ironing both sides as I fold. I love ironed sheets though

ghostyslovesheets · 25/10/2021 16:30

ironing is hardly back breaking labour - come on!

I even take an iron on holiday - I like things ironed - obviously mainly because I have no life and way too much time on my hands - but live and let live!

bananafruitcake · 25/10/2021 16:30

I have flat sheets though - don't like fitted ones

Abraxan · 25/10/2021 16:30

I never have and never will.
Life's too short and I just don't have the time or inclination to waste time doing so.

@DoctorSnortles

Yes, I’ve always done the “inside out and shake down” method and could change a double quilt really quickly & with no trouble!!

It just seems that the little bit extra is just too much for my T Rex🦖 arms!!
It’s so annoying as I love a clean bed.

ghostyslovesheets · 25/10/2021 16:35

I even use starch - I'll get my coat now...

StupidPhones · 25/10/2021 16:35

In for a penny, ghosty.

Tisforptarmigan · 25/10/2021 16:38

I do one side, turn the duvet cover then do the other. Think that I have a long ironing board though.

Can't believe the number of people who don't iron them. Thought everyone did. That's probably why I can't quite manage to change the beds every single week (usually every two weeks). I gave one king size and two double duvets and 14 pillowcases to iron if I do them all

ghostyslovesheets · 25/10/2021 16:41

I'm nothing if not committed Phones!

ChequerBoard · 25/10/2021 16:44

I own all my bedding - it feels so much nicer to sleep in once it's been ironed.

The secret to duvet covers is having a good quality steam generator iron, folding the duvet cover into four or more and then ironing the front and the back of it folded.

Works perfectly for my superking duvet covers.

Newlacesleeves · 25/10/2021 16:46

I only iron pillow cases as I really hate them wrinkly. By the time I’ve dressed the bed in cushions and a throw, I don’t notice the duvet cover. Have never ironed sheets but then I only use fitted sheets and they don’t need it.

SpindelWhorl · 25/10/2021 16:46

I own all my bedding

Mine belongs to my neighbour but keep it quiet

addictedtotheflats · 25/10/2021 16:47

I dont, they go on the line in the summer months of hung over a clothes airer or door in the winter

ChequerBoard · 25/10/2021 16:47

Wow what a clever response - clearly autocorrect fails never happen to you.

RachelHasThoseInBurgundy · 25/10/2021 16:48

I actually don’t iron my own bed sheets. I never did. I iron our school uniforms and “good” clothes that need it but nothing else.

My grandmother has just given up ironing at 93 due to poor health. Until a few weeks ago she ironed absolutely everything, including tea towels!

pussycatlickinglollyices · 25/10/2021 16:52

@blink18two

  1. always fasten the duvet cover and wash it inside out.
  2. I tumble mine, but I guess line dry will be ok too.
  3. Once dry, fold it (bottom towards you) with the 1st third doubled and doubled again in a loose "sausage" so it tucks in at the iron end of the board.
  4. Iron the centre third.
  5. Iron each side third (normally sausage side next)
Admittedly my iron is now v dusty and probably rusty but this is how I used to do them when I gave a 💩 and it works.
Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 25/10/2021 16:54

I don't! I have started ironing pillowcases though otherwise they don't seem to close properly and they seem to stick up and annoy me

Heifer · 25/10/2021 16:56

Flippin eck - it's bad enough that I have to fight with the duvet cover to get it onto the duvet - I certainly don't want to have to iron the fecker as well!

Embroidery · 25/10/2021 16:56

You have to take it out of the tumble dryer the minute it stops when its still hot , shake it and fold it then. Zero creases.

Cheeseplantboots · 25/10/2021 16:57

I hang mine over the bannister. I have one that needs ironing no matter what so I’ve stopped using it. I find the cheaper duvet covers need ironing.

toconclude · 25/10/2021 16:58

Why on earth do you need to start ironing duvet covers and fitted sheets just because your grandmother died?
Condolonces, but that's batty. Find another way to remember her that isn't an utter waste of time

name532 · 25/10/2021 16:58

Now I understand why people say they have plenty to do at home 5 days a week Grin

toconclude · 25/10/2021 16:58

condolences

Pinkflask · 25/10/2021 17:03

The two people who have ever been the most vocal and sneery about my ironing stuff and the most “I have better things to do” are also the two people who watch the most television of anyone I’ve ever known. Yeah, that half an hour a week I spend on ironing sure is a waste of time compared to the 6 hours a day of TV you watch.

Why does everyone assume ironing your sheets is for anyone else’s benefit? You’re the one sleeping in the bed! I iron them for me! It’s such a treat to get into crisp ironed sheets. Heaven forbid my idea of self-care is a nicely made bed…
