The house is chaos. I’m not well. Two children are running around like feral cats.

What’s DH doing? Making creme brûlée.

I don’t care, it’ll be delicious but it’s the last thing we need.

This is lighthearted btw - DH is not a twat or ignoring us/kids etc.

We've been removing blanket weed from our lake, mowing grass and chopping tree branches into suitable sizes for next year's log burner fuel.
Now sitting down with a cuppa before thinking about dinner. Having a big garden is lovely but a helluva lot of work!

@upaladderagain

Barely moved all day, just sitting playing on phone and reading the paper. This was not my plan. Had my flu jab yesterday, and within 5 hours was struck down with headache, extreme tiredness, aches from head to toe. I've had one every year for about 15 years and never any reaction before, so I shouldn't complain. But I will .....
Oh that’s interesting - I normally don’t have any reaction but had mine on Friday and feel absolutely hideous. I’ve just nipped for a PCR test but hopefully it’s just the jab.

@OliviaKeeling

I would love a lake. Can you go boating on it?

I had a lazy morning drinking tea and reading in bed while DH walked DDog and fitted neighbour's new integrated dishwasher. Then we visited his elderly parents and went to the tip.

Now, with yet another cuppa, I've ended up mooching around Mumsnet while also looking at possible itineraries* for an inter-railling trip with DH when DS graduates and can therefore be left at home for three weeks to look after DDog and aforementioned elderly rellies.

Three years on from DS going to university, I still enjoy my lazy Sundays that don't involve sports, last minute help with prep, ferrying DS and his friends around and so on!

  • I've broken Europe down into regions - so Iberia is one, then Scandinavia/Baltic and currently I'm planning our first trip which will be France/Italy/Austria/Netherlands/Belgium. I have a spreadsheet and everything. Since the advent of the plague my wanderlust has been getting worse and I find enormous pleasure in planning trips that I won't be able to take until who knows when.
BurningTheToast · 24/10/2021 18:05

Oh, and I picked crab apples for making jelly this week. Was planning to go up to the walled garden to pick some rosehips to add to it but it's getting a bit dark now.

DS5 found an ancient bottle of bubble bath stuff (MEN’s - as if though bubbles are a gendred product). The bottle is at least 6 and possibly 8 years old. I told him he can have it and to do what he wants with it. He emptied the whole thing into a bath and made a ridiculous amount of bubbles and is sitting among them shrieking with excitement and doing experiments.

DH is in the third hour of trying to fix an item. Surrounded by tools an playing Youtube tutorials. I just heard him swear.

DD3 and MIL are also downstairs, probably getting in his way as much as possible.

I’m supervising the bath by sitting on Mumsnet and occasionaly making appreciative noises about the science experiments in the bath.

Blueberryblueberry · 24/10/2021 18:15

Also recovering from covid. Took the dc out for a walk to the woods to celebrate our freedom (DH is still trapped). Very loosely supervised some rock painting (rocks collected on our walk) when we returned. Dozed on the sofa whilst they watched TV this afternoon and just had a chicken and root veg tray bake which I made for dinner. I'm tidying away -and mumsnetting in the kitchen whilst the DC watch frozen 2.

labazslovesliving · 24/10/2021 18:23

cooked breakfast nice treat after a very cold day at work yesterday and a migraine from hell for the last few days now thankfully easing off.
Rest of the day was lazy doing emails, sorting eBay out while OH went to carry on sorting out his late mum's house ready to sell to pay his fathers nursing home fees.
Thinking of a nice early night for myself while OH is working

MsWalterMitty · 24/10/2021 18:26

It’s been nice reading this is thread, seeing what others are getting up to!

I’m tired from a 30km mountain bike ride with friends, I’m now sitting on the sofa drinking wine and playing squares with my 8yr old who has sooooo much energy despite being taken a 12km mountain bike ride with DH!

DH is being amazing and cooking us all dinner

AliasGrape · 24/10/2021 18:33

That squirrel is the sumo of the squirrel world - you must have lots of goodies in your garden

@zafferana he’s a beast isn’t he? Grin I’ve never actually seen him before, usually a little robin sits there in the mornings, I do hope the squirrel hasn’t eaten him Shock

Simonjt · 24/10/2021 18:38

A very lazy day here, we made some halloween pancakes by putting different colout mix in those squeezy bottles. Early afternoon we watched Wallace and Gromit while my husvand was at football training.

We’ve made a few halloween decorations tonight and we carved another pumpkin to pop on our balcony display. It did have a lid but the dog decide to be a twat, grabbed it, ran out and chewed the fuck out of it.

We’re watching countryfile now until strictly comes on and we can watch our Queen MNEK.

HintofVintagePink · 24/10/2021 18:38

Trying to pick suitcases in secret whilst the DC are distracted. We’re surprising them with a trip away tomorrow morning and have managed to keep it a secret for months. Only 90 minutes until their bedtime!

HintofVintagePink · 24/10/2021 18:38

*pack not pick!

stinkystinky · 24/10/2021 18:51

I went for my first night OUT OUT in years last night (due to years of pregnant, baby, covid). Anyway it was a disaster. My friend got absolutely wasted and it was horrendous, she was a danger to herself and mr. I feel really sad today. I don’t think our friendship will ever be the same.

Currently sifting through dirty washing figuring out what is desperately needed for the next few days and what can wait. I've had the cold from hell which has lasted 2 full weeks now. For the last week I have been suffering with an ear infection caused by said cold which has also lead to having a perforated ear drum. The antibiotics prescribed by NHS24 last week didn't work so I'm currently on my 2nd lot of antibiotics which seem to have helped a bit as I'm no longer leaking bloody pus out of my ear but honestly I don't actually feel any better. Wondering how the hell I'm supposed to go back to work tomorrow. I had this week off for my DD's birthday on Tuesday and have spent most of it in bed. I only started on 4th October, it's in a completely different field and I'm absolutely loving it so far, so I don't want to do anything that could jeopardise it. I'm still in my probationary period and currently on a temporary contract which should be made permenant if all goes well. Feeling pretty lucky that this is really the first time I've been properly unwell in about 6 years (barring horrific morning sickness) but not a great time for it.

Theirishwan · 24/10/2021 18:56

I’m on a bus to the airport and going to Glasgow for 3 nights (my husband is working there for 5 weeks)

I’m a but stressed because I had been respite fostering a lovely 15 yo special needs girl(mild learning difficulties) . Was originally supposed to be for 10 days while her foster parents went on a long awaited golf trip but they came back with Covid.
FC had to stay another 2 weeks while they isolated and she was due to go home today but their son tested positive so I have to keep her another 10 days.

I was going to cancel my holiday but my 21 yo daughter wouldn’t let me and said she would take over. Bless her, she has rejigged her work shifts to do it.

I’m in need of 🍷🍹🍸

BigYellowHat · 24/10/2021 19:01

The cat is quite stupid and tried to eat some cereal out of the box and then walked into our room with the cereal box on her head trailing crunchy nut cornflakes 🤔

DD is curling her hair but not a lot else.

Perturbdisturb · 24/10/2021 19:06

I'm feeling sorry for myself because my boys came to visit me, and when one left I fell out of the front door. One ankle badly twisted, the knee on the other leg is agony.
Quaffing the lager they left in my fridge watching crap telly.

Didiusfalco · 24/10/2021 19:13

I like this thread, it’s nice to hear what others are doing.
I’ve spent most of the day in pjs, recovering from the end of term and watching ‘You’ on Netflix, cooked roast pork and now dd is in the bath and dh and ds have gone to see Dune. Hoping she goes to bed okay so I can watch the gran prix.
Where are you going for your trip @HintofVintagePink

ChocolateLover2000 · 24/10/2021 19:19

My guinea pig is ill and I'm trying to work out if he needs to be PTS. It's actually making my mind unravel, I'm hating it. The kids are oblivious luckily and have had a great day mooching at home then an afternoon trip to the park.

22Giraffes · 24/10/2021 19:38

@chocolatelover2000 poor you and your piggie Sad I have 5. They generally hide illness very well as I'm sure you know, trust yourself and your vet to make whatever desicion is best Flowers

HairyScaryMonster · 24/10/2021 19:45

I've been handling 2 very wingey children all day. Forced the out for a walk with friends and their dog this afternoon, wingeing stopped for the duration of the dog walk and re-started the minute we were back in the car. Overtired from school I think. Doesn't make it any easier to bear. Currently hiding in bed after a shower and ignoring the bombsite that is downstairs.

ChocolateLover2000 · 24/10/2021 20:26

Thanks. We're currently having to hand feed him a lot of recovery food and he's still losing weight. I'm just not sure at what point you give up, as it were.
