We've lived in our house for 26 years and our neighbours have live here for about 15 years. We've maintained a civil relationship until last year when after demanding that we take down some ivy growing on our fence, she announced she was taking down the fence and we weren't allowed to grow anything on the new one. It's actually our fence but she refused to believe that until I showed her the deeds and told her she was not to touch it. Even after that we had a number of rows about her getting workmen in who attached things to the fence and refused to stop when we asked. At one point she screamed at us on the doorstep for 20 minutes about what bad neighbours we were. We were so embarrassed that we agreed they could attach this horrid willow stuff to our fence.

This morning she knocked at our door to let us know they were having a party in the garden tonight (we'd already spotted the marquee). She told us she had asked her guests not to block our drive. We were impressed at how considerate she was and bought a congratulations card for their celebration.

We've just got home and they haven't parked in front of our drive. They have, however, parked right across the road so we can't get to our drive at all and have had to park two streets away. We live at the end of a cul de sac and so ours is the only house inconvenienced by this

DH won't let me knock and ask them to move the cars. I think this is a big fuck you from next door. Would I be unreasonable to bin the card we bought?

I can't bear the thought that this behaviour which is so inconsiderate and potentially illegal will go unchallenged.

Bad things happen when good mumsnetters do nothing. You've got to knock.

HazelandChacha · 23/10/2021 19:00

I would have just blocked them in too.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 23/10/2021 19:01

Why do you need your DH’s permission? Tell them to move their cars that is so unbelievably rude!

Suspicioussam · 23/10/2021 19:02

Unbelievably rude. This is the first parking thread that has left me raging. Block them in!

itsgettingwierd · 23/10/2021 19:02

@CoffeeTopUp

You park here - red car parks the spot.
That was my initial thought too!

Then when they get their guests to move the cars you can move yours onto your drive!

nancybotwinbloom · 23/10/2021 19:03

Move your car and block then in fuck them you've been more than reasonable.

Knock and explain they have ten. Ins to move their cars or your having a wine abs can't move your car till tomorrow.

Soulstirring · 23/10/2021 19:06

Is it a double drive? Be the bigger person and ask them to move but park on your drive. It will disarm them completely

rrhuth · 23/10/2021 19:06

You can report this to the police as they've blocked the highway. I would do that tbh.

Chloemol · 23/10/2021 19:06

@CallyWW

It's not a huge deal. She tried to warn you and probably did warn her guests not to block you. What's the harm in parking 2 streets away for one night? I would forget about it and pass along the card. It's nice to be nice to people.
Go away why should she park TWO streets away when she has a nic3 safe drive to park on

You going to pay if her car gets damaged?

Chloemol · 23/10/2021 19:07

Knock on the door. If they don’t move call the police as they are obstructing your access

RestingPandaFace · 23/10/2021 19:10

It looks very much like they are parked right across the middle of the road. Ring 101 and report them for obstruction. It’s still early and they might have some one they can send out.

Biancadelrioisback · 23/10/2021 19:11

Block em in

Lynne1Cat · 23/10/2021 19:11

Bollocks to nit going round. Get round there and tell her you demand access to be able to get your car in. If they don't oblige, make a note of registration numbers of the cars parked there, report them to the police later for drink-driving. Bin the card!

EarringsandLipstick · 23/10/2021 19:14

@hotmeatymilk

Forget the card. Shit through their letterbox instead.
😂😂
HarrisonStickle · 23/10/2021 19:15

Park in front of their cars. I think you're mad to park two streets away!

rrhuth · 23/10/2021 19:16

Someone parked across our road once not long ago (no idea why) and the police came out to make them move.

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 23/10/2021 19:17

I would be knocking and asking them to move. If they refuse I would be sitting with my hand on the horn until they did. Either that or phone 101 and report them.

godmum56 · 23/10/2021 19:20

go and ask and see what rersponse you get and if the cars aren't moved then I would block them in and enjoy the wine. I live in circumstances where its possible for visitors/workmen to unwittingly inconvenience neighbours and we all take care to be sure it doesn't happen...if that means monitoring visitors as they arrive then that is what we do.

CreepySpider · 23/10/2021 19:21

I wouldn’t even bother with their door, I’d go straight into the marquee and insist the cars are moved. Or I’d stay elsewhere overnight but leave something immensely irritating like Baby Shark on playing at full blast and on repeat.

godmum56 · 23/10/2021 19:21

OH PS, the other thing of course is emergency service access

Hellocatshome · 23/10/2021 19:21

Give them the card and let it go. You have already parked 2 streets away. You would have to walk back there to get your car to move it on to your drive. Just go and get it in the morning its the same amount of walking.

Loveitloveitloveit · 23/10/2021 19:23

Personally I’d just knock and ask them to move. They (hopefully) might not know what their guests have done. If they’re knobs about it I’d block them in

cherrytreecottage · 23/10/2021 19:24

What? Confused it's not a huge deal to park two streets away when you have a property with a drive, specifically so you don't have to park elsewhere??

It's also nice to be more considerate to your neighbours and ensure they can access their property. Block them in OP.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 23/10/2021 19:27

Block em in.

Knock on and tell them you have blocked them in.

Go home and drink.

PinkiOcelot · 23/10/2021 19:28

I wouldn’t have parked 2 streets away. I would definitely have blocked them in with my car.
That is shitty behaviour by your neighbours.
