Who would vote Tory and why?

OP posts:
WhoWearsShortShorts · 21/10/2021 06:37

What have labour done recently to convince you to vote for them?

luckylavender · 21/10/2021 08:49

I read this thread and despair at what the Murdoch press has done to this country.

I do listen to what Labour have to say - their policies, speaking so not headlines and it still doesn’t fit with what I want.

They can’t hide behind it’s the media doing this but think about where they are going wrong.

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 21/10/2021 09:12

I'd like to vote labour but they've repeatedly said they don't want my vote because I believe you can't change your sex.
Greens - used to vote green, but they've gone down a weird path. It doesn't seem to be about the environment any more.
MRLP - did actually vote for them when our Tory MP was PM. A pointless vote, but an interesting way to protest. Should have voted Lord Binhead.
Tory - Well they're awful. But so is everyone else. Sigh.
So who do I vote for the next time round? I'm in a very safe tory seat so it probably doesn't matter.

luckylavender · 21/10/2021 09:53

@MarshaBradyo - and that's fine of course. But so many people lack critical thinking and parrot the same old tropes especially around fiscal management.

Footprintsonthemoon1 · 21/10/2021 09:56

I would vote Conservative. Unfortunately ATM I see them as the best option. A lot of my views line up with labour but in their current state as a woman I would not vote for them

berlinbabylon · 21/10/2021 10:16

@Iggly

And weeks after her "Tory Scum" rant, one is killed

By a possible Islamic Terrorist……

Oh for goodness sake - Amess was murdered by man. Not by Angela Rayner. Can we please impose blame where it's due - on male violence. How predictable that women try to blame a woman for something a man did Angry

as if any Islamic "terrorist" would take any notice of a mere subhuman woman, anyway.

coffeerevelsrock · 21/10/2021 10:52

Genuine question - what are they suggesting that you don't like and what are the Tories doing that you do like? Sorry if you've already said - I've scanned the whole thread but may have missed it.

einekleinenachtarbeit · 21/10/2021 11:04

Yes I'd like to know what labour policies people don't like. And equally what's so good about tory policies.
How have they managed the UK over the last 11 years ?
I have relatives in Essex. They love Johnson. They voted to leave. But they have decent jobs and pensions, own their own houses, always off abroad or weekends away, nights out, meals etc. Life is good, why change anything ? And I guess most people feel that way. When they come up here we carefully avoid anywhere local because it really is that bad.

I’ll try and remember but I’ve probably put more on other threads

But

  • independent school loss of charity status
  • £15 per hour minimum wage
  • tax on digital

I think they are unrealistic or based on wrong motivation

Also hearing their shadow cabinet on radio I’m yet to feel reassured

Whereas I listen to Sunak and he’s got a better grasp of economic issues, Nadhim Zahawi too and Kwasi Kwarteng, (I like the mix of names / ethnic backgrounds as a smaller point.)

MarshaBradyo · 21/10/2021 11:07

And like many others I contributed to the Blair landslide so it is possible to get my vote.

MintJulia · 21/10/2021 11:07

Tory. Because our local MP is a decent man, hard working and diligent.

And because there isn't an alternative. Labour think men are women, can't bear to say the word 'women' and don't think we deserve safe spaces, and the LDs' grip on reality is even more tenuous.

A competent centrist political party is what I would like for Christmas.

MarshaBradyo · 21/10/2021 11:08

Oh and the women issue is a big one

LizzieW1969 · 21/10/2021 11:15

^Lol, me too. I used to vote Lib Dem, and also voted for Blair in the past. I’ve been badly disappointed by both parties in recent years. Sad

www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/labour-mp-mps-margaret-thatcher-conservative-commons-b957338.html

A veteran Tory MP has apologised for a “foolish remark” suggesting a bomb should be planted in a Labour frontbencher’s office.

If that's all you've got... Hmm

So you disagree with the idea of removing charitable status from independent schools, which educate a small percentage of the population, to invest in the state sector which desperately needs more investment and improvement Hmm

Higher wages - your PM is now suddenly advocating paying higher wages and blaming businesses for not doing so!

Higher taxes for online retailers - you don't think the likes of Amazon should pay fair taxes???

MarshaBradyo · 21/10/2021 11:28

If that's all you've got..

I was answering the polite pp and I’ve said more on other threads about why. I’m not going to go over it for you as you are clearly too chippy to engage properly.

This is another issue for the left they cannot get or even understand why some policies fall flat.

Totally inability to engage properly.

luckylavender · 21/10/2021 11:30

@NotPersephone - no point in having any sort of debate with you really is there? Using the infantile 'Keith' label - says far more about you than him. You sound as if you're in school. And you think David Lammy is thick, really? Do some research.

Bumblenums1234 · 21/10/2021 11:33

I just wish there was a better left-leaning party who want to protect female sex based rights. I would vote for them in a heartbeat.

Next election? No idea who I will vote for, certainly not tory (which I have done in the past) but also not Labour. Will have to look at the manifestos at the time and make a choice based on that.

coffeerevelsrock · 21/10/2021 11:35

MarshaBraydo

Thanks for replying. I think the independent school idea is a great one and struggle to see why anyone thinks that's unfair unless they benefit from the charitable status thing. I do think that's a polarising issue though - I'd love to shut the whole lot down and have done with it Smile. The £15 per hour minimum wage isn't actually policy as far as I understand it - wasn't it backed by a left-wing fringe of the party and not the leadership? The tax on digital services to fund help for small businesses also seems quite sensible to me as I know small businesses have really struggled over the last couple of years, but to be fair I haven't looked at the details. I would love to see these massive digital companies paying more though and I'm sure many others feel the same.

Sunak I have no time for whatsoever - a real snake and having a grasp on economic policy seems shorthand for saying everything will need to be cut as the gap between the rich and poor grows ever wider.

The other two names you mention - I thought they were just typical Johnson yes-men who would never have risen to such prominent roles had not everyone half decent been pushed out. They seem from the weak/not very bright wing of the party rather than the downright nasty though. Although Zahawi seems to be turning into a bit of a Gove wannabe with his plans to cut limits to teachers' directed time and reinstate the Y9 SATs Angry.

Totally agree with you about self-id/women but for me I don't think that can be the deal-breaker this time. Not with how things are in the country at the moment.

elodie77 · 21/10/2021 11:39

I favour small state and low tax.

Ha ha - good luck!

I have no idea in all honesty. Labour don't seem like a credible opposition and haven't for a long time, which has been the issue.
