How is Jim Davidson not cancelled?

If you've watched the documentary black and white by Ashley Banjo you will see what I mean.

This man is the most racist man I've seen on TV in recent years.

He's a disgrace.

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 21/10/2021 15:17

@LakieLady I think PP said, "going for city status". Croydon has been doing that for decades, and failing.

Porfre · 21/10/2021 15:22

I think he is cancelled

Ypu wouldn't see him presenting a mainstream programme these days.

I just notice him around doing some sets at small venues. Havent really seen him on TV for a while.

Think hes doing a stand up show at a small venue nearby some time next year.

VanGoghsDog · 21/10/2021 15:26

"escape goats* 🤣

Thecurliestwurly · 21/10/2021 15:38

You can't cancel someone for someone else, only yourself.

I used to watch his stuff as a kid in the 80's, it just makes me cringe now. These men were utterly repulsive.

madisonbridges · 21/10/2021 15:48

@Mrsjayy. To be fair Linda Nolan was as unlikeable as him and did nothing but have a go at him. It might be she had reason but it made him more sympathetic to the viewers.

Mrsjayy · 21/10/2021 15:50

This is very true she wasn't particularly pleasant either but my god winning BB 🙄

madisonbridges · 21/10/2021 15:55

@2Two
"There really is a line between people who you dislike and people who are bigoted racists who foment hatred of ethnic and religious minorities. Other issues apart, the latter are breaking the law, to say nothing of the fact that we really should make it 100% clear that it is NOT OK to facilitate what they are doing by giving them a platform for it. Their free speech is not being muzzled in any way."

I'm not sure whether you're referring to Davidson or Boyle here. Neither of them have been prosecuted for breaking the law so I can only assume that neither have fomented hatred of ethnic and religious minorities. TBH I think Boyle is worse than Davidson because he is happy to pick out individuals and just be disgusting about them. I remember him being so insulting about Rebecca Adlington looks when her only crime was winning 2 Olympic golds. She spoke later about how much it had affected her. He really is horrible to people under the guise of being a comedian.

RAFHercules · 21/10/2021 16:21

There is no place in the UK for racism. He should be reported every single time.
I work in the NHS and would (rightly) be sacked.

Have you reported him? What was the outcome?
IntermittentParps · 21/10/2021 16:30

There is no problem with jazz that needs addressing.
Agree. Silly comparison. Are people who play jazz protected against discrimination in law?
Not when I last looked.

Mamamia7962 · 21/10/2021 17:16

RAFHercules - Reported to who though, you can't report someone if they haven't committed a crime.

mustlovegin · 21/10/2021 17:17

More while people should join them and do the same

It's likely after seeing all of this most people in their right minds will try to avoid these interactions at all costs TBH

ConstanceGracy · 21/10/2021 17:58

Do not watch his older stuff then as the recent interview was nothing compared to his “comedy”

Brainwave89 · 21/10/2021 18:29

@mustlovegin

Put up and shut up is what you're suggesting? Wow

No, what I'm saying is that (as far as I could see) nobody had anything to 'put up' with as everyone was treated with respect.

So as a person of colour my kids are routinely followed around supermarkets. This is a direct result of racial profiling. Are yours?

As with any family of colour we teach our kids to always get and keep receipts when they shop. At least once in a six month period you will be stopped and asked to prove you have paid for your goods? Does this happen to you?

I and all of my family living in a rural area are regularly stopped by the police when driving. Queries as to why we are stopped range from its just routine to the more honest your Asian and we just want to be sure you are not part of a county lines drugs gang.

Relatives have rung for a job and when giving an Asian name have been told the vacancy is filled. Calling an hour later with an English an interview was offered.

Have your kids ever been beaten up because they are non-white?

No? It appears to me you live a very different life to ours and have little idea what ours is like.

mustlovegin · 21/10/2021 18:46

I can see what you are saying Brainwave89, but do you honestly think that any of the incidents you are describing will be prevented by 'shows' like these, that just fuel and appear to revel in antagonism? Isn't there a better way?

Buttons294749 · 21/10/2021 18:55

Hes been A known racist since the 90s. No idea how he's still around

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 21/10/2021 19:02

What do mean “still around”?
DismantledKing · 21/10/2021 19:04

Him and dreck like him (Chubby Brown, Jethro, that Australian ‘Bloody’ Wilson) are pretty much reduced to touring local venues now. There’s still an audience for that type of crap.

CSIblonde · 21/10/2021 19:09

He's not just a racist . I'm old enough to remember the front page news photos of his TV presenter wife with a massive black eye & bruised face. It was a short-lived marriage . Can't remember her name. Alison, something, v intelligent, very attractive , blonde & much younger than him.

Mrsjayy · 21/10/2021 20:32

I think her name was Alison Holloway wasn't she a TV presenter?

I'm old enough to remember him on TV talking about his black "mate" Chalky ,😲

CSIblonde · 21/10/2021 20:57

@Mrsjayy, yes that's her name! I remember thinking what on earth would a woman like that see in him? Even at 14 I viewed him as a racist, sexist, misogynist with cold, dead eyes. I also have a vague memory of a documentary on him years ago where he said his Mum once said : "Davidson women have it hard". Grim. Obviously repeating the DV behaviour pattern.

Brainwave89 · 21/10/2021 21:09

Yes, it is all part of a process of normalising racism. In my view there is a direct connection between a racist culture including racist comedians and what some sections of society feel emboldened to do. Bernard Manning (another racist comedian), used to tell a joke which went “they say that if an Asian is born here they are British- so does that mean a dog born in a stable is a horse? You would not believe how often I heard that growing up, or how uncomfortable as a child it made me feel.
MrsTerryPratchett · 21/10/2021 21:21

I had black and Asian friend in the 80s and there were pubs you couldn't go in, skinheads roaming the streets and police stops all the time. Black teenagers sewed their pockets shut FFS.

Just because you weren't talking about it, doesn't mean other people weren't living it.

Do people really think racism is invented? They must not have been living in South London.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/10/2021 21:22

Sorry @Brainwave89 that wasn't for you, it was about the person you quoted!

stalkersaga · 21/10/2021 22:52

It takes some brass fucking neck to say that because you, white person, haven't personally experienced racism, it obviously never happened and "everyone was treated with respect".
