AIBU to ask if you had menstrual issues after the covid vaccine?

Wish I could start a poll. Feeling utterly spent right now. Admittedly I've put off vaccination due to the reported menstrual issues but now I've had a bit if change of heart that we are starting fertility treatments. I want to be able to enjoy this pregnancy instead of worrying about covid, it will already be tough enough after a year and 2 miscarriages.

It would really help to hear from women and what they actually experienced as far as menstrual disruption. Please reply even if everything was fine. I'm trying to get as much info as I can. Would you mind sharing which vaccine you got and if you had cycle disruption, what happened and how long did it last?

My periods after AZ have been shorter in length (4-5 instead of 7 days) and incredibly heavy, almost unmanageable. I’m so glad I’ve been working from home because I don’t know how I would manage if I had to be in the office. I’m not sure if it’s vaccine related or if my hormones are off for some other reason.

NotFrozen · 19/10/2021 09:28

I have also had extreme PMT, far worse than just feeling stressed or anxious, and having monthly feelings of being very emotional, unable to cope and feeling overwhelmed. My husband has been noticing this too. This is new and it’s definitely cycle related.

Pfizer and no changes

MissLC · 19/10/2021 10:18

Morning! I had Pfizer, 2 months postpartum (I had already had one period if I remember correctly). I then had the contraceptive injection 3 weeks after my first covid vaccine. I bled for over 10 weeks, mainly spotting but often heavier.
I've put the extra info in around me recently having a baby and the contraceptives as I think all of it could have had an impact and possibly was just a perfect storm of hormones and antibodies.
Best of luck with your ttc and decision on vaccine

Rasputina · 19/10/2021 10:31

I had Pfizer and ever since my once very regular periods show up at random. No change in flow or anything else though.

DeepDown12 · 19/10/2021 10:40

Pfizer, no changes.

Nirnroot · 19/10/2021 11:02

I had Pfizer and pre vaccine my periods were normal and regular in the sense they came on the day expected or 1 day before or after. Pretty normal and each was the same as the last in regards to flow, length, pain etc.

After I got my first dose my next period was WEEKS late (unheard of for me) and when it did come it lasted longer and it was the heaviest and most painful period of my life. I nearly went to the hospital as I was in so much pain even painkillers couldn't mask it. I legit thought I was having some sort of medical emergency. Like some other posters said thank God we are working from home as I couldn't move from the pain. Luckily it ended (much later than usual) and the next was late but starting to get back on track. Oddly the next vaccine didn't have the same effect- my period after that was as normal so I was surprised by that.

RBJRita · 19/10/2021 21:03

I had Pfizer whilst I was on my period and it made it so much more heavier and I’m now still waiting for my period, it’s a week late which has never happened!

CatPeach · 19/10/2021 21:06

I had pfizer. After the first dose, my periods were much, much heavier on day 2. I bled through clothes, which never happens to me.

Since my second dose its back to normal flow.

Itsnotover · 19/10/2021 21:07

I had Astra Zeneca (second shot in May). My periods haven't changed at all. Everything is exactly as it was.

TheOpenRoad · 19/10/2021 21:09

No impact at all, very much the same as before

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 19/10/2021 21:11

AZ here - after first vaccine my cycle length went to about 18 days (previously 26 bang on for years) for three months. Then I had second vaccine and haven’t had a period since. 4 months and counting. Have had bloods and not peri or pregnant or anything else. Waiting on an ultrasound to see where on Earth it is! Not ttc thankfully but can only assume I’m not ovulating.

Snugglemuffins4me · 19/10/2021 21:13

My periods returned for the 1st time in 19 months ( breastfeeding) after the Pfizer and I was unknowingly pregnant for the 2nd .

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 19/10/2021 21:21

Pfizer here. 1st period after was like nothing I have ever experienced before - flooding, extreme pain and nausea. Genuinely couldn't move couldn't go to work and to be honest could hardly breathe with the pain. Now a few months on and they're still weird. Heavy, a bit out of sync, feel faint with them. I yellow carded it.

puffylovett · 19/10/2021 21:26

I haven’t been jabbed but am recovering from Covid and I had a really heavy period arrive 7 days early during the disease. That’s unheard of for me, I’m usually like clockwork.

I suppose I’m wondering if it’s the Covid element of the vaccines that are causing the disruptions to people cycles. If that makes sense

ThisIsNotHere · 19/10/2021 22:30

I had Pfizer. After the first dose my period was 3 days early and very heavy with lots of clots ( unusual for me), periods between doses -all on time and nothing unusual. Second dose - all fine.

Tatum1234 · 19/10/2021 22:32

AZ and all fine.

HerbivorousRex · 20/10/2021 07:29

I’ve had both Pfizer injections (as well as 2 Sinopharm- we’re not in the UK).

It didn’t affect my cycle at all (I continued ovulating on day 12/13 and my cycle remained 27 days after all of the injections).

We conceived without any issues 2 weeks after my second Pfizer injection (it was our first month properly trying).
I’m now 9 weeks pregnant and everything is going well (we’ve already had a scan and everything is completely normal).

eeyore228 · 20/10/2021 07:36

I'm on the depo jab so I don't get periods, maybe occasional spotting. For a few months after Pfizer I had awful period pain which is really unusual and it lasted for long periods of time. It's died down but I've just had my additional booster at work so I'm waiting with baited breath.

underneaththeash · 20/10/2021 07:41

AZ - no disruption. However, I'm just getting over the horrible "not-COVID" virus and my period is over 10 days late!

HesterAndPearlInBrightSunshine · 20/10/2021 07:41

Had a pretty bad covid in 2020 and all sorts of inflammatory symptoms (for example my endemetriosis was really bad that year- not sure if that was actually related but it felt that way). Got the Pfizer and not only are my cycles more regular now but also less painful. Coincidence perhaps but certainly no adverse side effects in that respect.

IsabelHerna · 21/10/2021 11:05

Fully vaccinated, no problems at all.

SnakeRabbitMouse · 21/10/2021 11:33

Pfizer. Period was a week late. Never been more than one or two days later before. I'm 34. Gone back to regular cycle since then.
