AIBU to ask if you had menstrual issues after the covid vaccine?

Wish I could start a poll. Feeling utterly spent right now. Admittedly I've put off vaccination due to the reported menstrual issues but now I've had a bit if change of heart that we are starting fertility treatments. I want to be able to enjoy this pregnancy instead of worrying about covid, it will already be tough enough after a year and 2 miscarriages.

It would really help to hear from women and what they actually experienced as far as menstrual disruption. Please reply even if everything was fine. I'm trying to get as much info as I can. Would you mind sharing which vaccine you got and if you had cycle disruption, what happened and how long did it last?

AZ, next period was 2 weeks late and very light. The second one back to normal and have been since.
Considering a fifth of all COVID hospitalisations are pregnant women currently I would get yourself jabbed sharpish!

SnowWhitesSM · 18/10/2021 22:10

Had a weird early period after jab, then felt pregnant for a month. I actually thought I might be, then had a horrendous period and yesterday bled very light for a day even though I'm two weeks away from period.

When I read my dcs vaccination info booklet the NHS said there has been no proven link to the vaccine and menstrual changes.. it said (to paraphrase) that women were noticing changes that they usually wouldn't, that really annoyed me tbh as actually loads of women have come forward and my periods were every 28 days without fail and I've never randomly bled for a day in the middle before.

Teatimes2 · 18/10/2021 22:12

1st jab fine. Second jab period arrived unexpectedly three days later and I wasn't due for another 2 weeks. I'm usually regular as clockwork.

Hoesbeforebroes · 18/10/2021 22:12

I had Pfizer and both times my next period came unexpectedly early and without the usual warning signs.

Teatimes2 · 18/10/2021 22:13

Forgot to say it was Pfizer

I find that annoying too: the NHS saying that women are 'noticing changes that they usually wouldn't'. As if we don't know our own bodies. I've been having periods for 30 years - I think I'd notice if something unusual was happening!!! It is.

I hadn't had a period for many months, mild peri menopausal symptoms, ticking along nicely. Had first AZ jab, hugely sore joints, swollen knuckles, bad PMT symptoms, sore swollen breasts that evening.Period arrives a week later. Constant sore joints, hair loss, periods regular. GP suggested HRT in the end, which has helped immensely. I tend to feel if I hadn't had the vaccine, my peri menopause would have carried on with only mild symptoms and I wouldn't have needed HRT.

SusannaRowan · 18/10/2021 22:40

@Toddlerteaplease

3 forded of Pfizer and no difference. I have only heard of issues on mumsnet.

And the 30000+ who reported to the Yellow Card scheme.

Lockeddownagain · 18/10/2021 22:53

Yes my period was 26days late and I'm.never last

Not2daySatan · 18/10/2021 23:21

I had my 2nd az in May. I totally skipped my next period so was 4 weeks late. My next period is now 4 1/2 weeks late again.
After my 1st one was late I had blood tests to see if I was pre menopausal but came back normal so I'm wondering if it was the AZ.

Cornnuts · 18/10/2021 23:40

I have had no changes since having any of the vaccines including booster.
I had covid last year, pre vaccine, was hospitalised and it took me 10 weeks to recover. My periods which are like clockwork were all over the show and much heavier for about four months afterwards before settling back to normal.

YourBonesAreWet · 19/10/2021 00:26

When I had the vaccine I missed a period and now they are 2 days long and then very light spotting for ages afterwards. I’m on the 15th day of spotting now and getting worried. If it’s the same next month I might see if I can get a smear.

I had Pfizer and I also started sertraline at the same time so who knows what’s going on.

Peach01 · 19/10/2021 00:33

You can check the vaccines yellow card scheme. There are a lot of reported adverse reactions relating to menstruation. Heavy, delayed, irregular and painful are the most reported. It doesn't guarantee a link and there will be many side effects that go unreported. Given the high volume of reactions reported relating to this, it does appear to correlate with the vaccine. It doesn't provide info on how long these reactions last.

LittleMysSister · 19/10/2021 00:36

@LeavesOffTheCactus

I had Pfizer and no menstrual disruption. No change in dates or heaviness of period.
Same for me. Had both jabs.
liveforsummer · 19/10/2021 08:09

I had AZ and started bleeding heavily the next morning. I'm on the mini pill and haven't had a period in years unless I miss a more than 2 pills over a week but then that breakthrough bleeding is light and short. I hadn't missed any at that point. That lasted around a week I then had 4 other episodes of bellying in the following 5 weeks. Was due my next last Friday although couldn't make it. Not had anything in the last couple of weeks but currently have that heavy feeling like it's on its way.

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 19/10/2021 08:26

AZ. 2 days late after each but otherwise no issues despite being very perimenopausal.

The change in cycles has been attributed to the efforts it takes the body to produce the immune response to the vaccine, in just the same way that illness and stress can demonstrably cause you to be late, have a change in, or miss periods. This makes perfect sense to me and is much more plausible than believing that there’s something in a non-live vaccine for a respiratory illness which can affect your reproductive system.

Mangozesty · 19/10/2021 08:30

Nope, had Pfizer and have had my booster too.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 19/10/2021 08:36

I don't have periods due to the contraception I use but I did get spotting after my Pfizer vaccine.

My daughter noticed changes to her periods after having Covid, much heavier and less regular.
She's 12 so too young for the vaccine.

MrsDrSpencerReid · 19/10/2021 08:44

DD14 and I both had Pfizer, no change to periods.

Teladi · 19/10/2021 08:46

I had 2x Moderna and my periods have been the same

black2black · 19/10/2021 08:54

When I had the second Pfizer vaccine my period lasted much longer and was really heavy. So much so I googled it to see if it was normal and a few places mentioned other women having the same effects. Apparently it’s due to increased antibodies fighting the vaccine

Cantthinkofaname21 · 19/10/2021 08:56

I’m mid 40’s AZ no issues
Sister late 30’s Pfizer - no change. About to start ivf - medical professional and just had her booster
My daughter 18 - Pfizer - no change

Darceyhemingway · 19/10/2021 08:57

I had my first COVID jab and came off the pill In jan. had my first period in feb. Had my second vaccine in my TWW in March and was pregnant that cycle. So no interference with my periods or pregnancy

Darceyhemingway · 19/10/2021 08:57

That was the Pfizer btw. Just had my booster at 32 weeks

Miri13 · 19/10/2021 09:10

I’ve had opposite. I had chemotherapy in 2015 periods stopped for a year or so, and were irregular one every three months or so after that. I’m peri menopause anyways so was not surprised when they stopped last year. Had my first AZ jab in March and second in May. Periods started back in August, just like old times, regular cycle etc.
