AIBU to ask if you had menstrual issues after the covid vaccine?

Wish I could start a poll. Feeling utterly spent right now. Admittedly I've put off vaccination due to the reported menstrual issues but now I've had a bit if change of heart that we are starting fertility treatments. I want to be able to enjoy this pregnancy instead of worrying about covid, it will already be tough enough after a year and 2 miscarriages.

It would really help to hear from women and what they actually experienced as far as menstrual disruption. Please reply even if everything was fine. I'm trying to get as much info as I can. Would you mind sharing which vaccine you got and if you had cycle disruption, what happened and how long did it last?

I had Moderna. After the first dose my period was about 4 days early and really heavy. After the second dose in august it was about 4 days early again, though not quite as heavy, but more so than usual. The next period was later than usual but otherwise normal for me.

Gindrinker43 · 18/10/2021 20:05

Now had 3 doses of Pfizer and no change at all

KarmaLife · 18/10/2021 20:06

AZ and had 2 heavy periods after first jab despite being menopausal and hot having had a period for months. Nothing since then (which is normal) and no reaction after the 2nd jab.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/10/2021 20:07

3 forded of Pfizer and no difference. I have only heard of issues on mumsnet.

Mountaingirl54 · 18/10/2021 20:09

I had moderna and it’s taken a few months to get my normal cycle back, my periods also seem to be heavier now and last longer.

ScottishNewbie · 18/10/2021 20:09

Pfizer and period was lighter and delayed by about 2 weeks

2undertwoo · 18/10/2021 20:10

Astra Zeneca - no changes at all.

Norfolkbumpkin · 18/10/2021 20:15

AZ, after 1st vacc I was fine, the period following the second one was 2 weeks late. Since then I've been having painful periods again; not had these for over 10 years.

TumtumTree · 18/10/2021 20:17

AZ, two doses, no difference.

Member984815 · 18/10/2021 20:20

I had moderna, no issues with my cycle

K1ran · 18/10/2021 20:22

Had the AZ and completely messed up. Either they don't come or when they do, they never stop. Some times up to 5 weeks. This has never happened before snd I have no underlying conditions

cultkid · 18/10/2021 20:22

Me

Blankspace4 · 18/10/2021 20:22

Yes, I did. First period after first AZ jab was probably the most painful of my adult life. Excruciating to the point of almost passing out. I didn’t connect it at the time.

After second jab my usual 28 day cycle became a 41 day cycle.

Settled down after that but there was a very real effect I can’t put down to coincidence and I get very fed up when women’s experience is overlooked

mummatomason · 18/10/2021 20:26

I had pfizer and i was having a period every 3 months on the implant..
After 1st vaccine i started bleeding every 4 weeks and then after 2nd i bled for 12 days straight, boobs hurt.. and still now 5 months later im irregular and heavy.

Never had problems with my periods until now. I just hope they sort themselves out.
But like alot of people say, id rather have odd periods than be really poorly

Confrontayshunme · 18/10/2021 20:29

Having covid has affected my cycle hugely (even heavier than before and awful mood symptoms and increased appetite for a week before). The vaccines gave me a sore arm.

TempsPerdu · 18/10/2021 20:29

I’m not sure, it could be perimenopause (I’m 41), but my periods are all over the place since my AZ jab. One very late period after 1st dose (I have very short cycles and this was unheard of for me), then seemed to settle down for a bit, then 2nd jab and since then they’ve been super heavy with clots, anything from 20 to 32 days apart, painful like I hadn’t experienced since my early 20s, and preceded by a week plus of severe PMS symptoms. It’s making me feel pretty below par 3 weeks out of 4 to be honest.

I reported my the original late period via the yellow card scheme but no one seems to be taking much notice of women’s opinions on things at the moment!

WeAllHaveWings · 18/10/2021 20:30

Im 52 and usually have 5-6 short periods a year, medium flow for 2-4 days.

3 weeks after 1st AZ jab I had an 11 day long very heavy period, never had one like it before. Then again after 2nd jab had an 8 day heavy period.

That was 3 months ago and havent had one since, but that isnt unusual.

MissMaple82 · 18/10/2021 20:33

I had pfizer almost 4 months ago and I’ve not had a period since. Im not sexually active so not pregnant!

TrueRefuge · 18/10/2021 20:34

Bear in mind I already seem to have a mild hormonal imbalance; I need to work really hard to keep my cycles heathy, regular and not too disruptive to my life. Also, I don't have children and don't want them, so I can't weigh in on long-term fertility consequences.

I had Moderna and cycles were messed up after both.

After first dose, my first period arrived on day 33 (4 days late) and so, so heavy and painful. I spent all of Day 1 on the sofa with a hot water bottle. Next month arrived on Day 25, 3 days early to compensate! Was fine though.

After second dose, had the worst PMS ever. Arrived day 34 (so 5 days late), and I cried and was angry and irrational - all very mental/emotional rather than physical. I've just had my second cycle after second dose and that was two days early but otherwise normal.

So 2 messed up cycles for each dose; 4 months later and hopefully next cycle in 2 weeks will finally be back to normal.

I am otherwise young and healthy and don't think I would have the booster as it has taken 4 months for my hormones to rebalance and at the moment it doesn't feel worth it. However, depending on how things pan out, I might suck it up and just deal with the fallout. I will do the most responsible thing possible whilst also considering my own health and quality of life.

Trinacham · 18/10/2021 20:36

I haven't had a jab due to pregnancy and choosing not to until after the birth (I have had covid and it was very mild). My sister had AZ and did have menstrual disruptions. I don't know the full details but she was very irregular, this is not usual for her.

HijadelaLuna · 18/10/2021 20:38

Pfizer, no issues at all

Wizotto · 18/10/2021 20:39

I was just ending my period when I had moderna jab 1 and this was immediately followed by another period (always regular before). Went back to normal after that and no change after the second jab.

SylvanasWindrunner · 18/10/2021 20:39

Nothing.

Tempusfudgeit · 18/10/2021 20:40

Pfizer, unusually missed two periods after second jab.

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 18/10/2021 20:41

Pfizer, no changes
