Good luck and agree with the champagne idea!I'm pregnant so will have to stick to fuming in a corner !!! xxxxxx

It is dh I feel the most sorry for as he ends up stuck in the middle. I try to bite my tongue as much as possible because despite everything, she is still his mum and it isn't nice having someone say horrid things/moaning about your mother to you is it?

You do realise that this is storing you up a token for next year?

A 'Stay In Bed And Drink Port' token!

Swedes2Turnips1 · 10/12/2007 23:53

Are you a child bride? I am impressed that your mother in law has a mother who is well and able to come and stay uninvited at your house. My mil is 82.

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 11/12/2007 09:51

Swedes, lol not a child bride, although I have been with dh since I was 18. MIL's mother is 82 as well. FIL's mother is 97 and still pretty much with it!

I'd be really excited to have some one of 97 come and stay, esp if still compos mentis! She can probably remember WWI, and women getting the vote and the rise of Fascism, and young men rushing off to fight in the Spanish Civil War ....

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 12/12/2007 09:35

It is not the 97 year old one who is coming, tis the 82 year old.

I have an 82 year old and a 92 year old at my Christmas lunch table. Both lovely and much better company than some of the 40 somethings who will be sitting at same table.

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 13/12/2007 11:30

Well folks, guess what. MIL's mother phoned me last night to say she has decided not to come as she can't face 2 days with my children . Now I know my children aren't angels and with undoubtably with loud and over excited (well it is christmas fgs) but how bl**dy rude .

Poor you all that stress for nothing and with such a 'charming' comment about your kids thrown in.
well at least you can go back to christmas arrangements no1

IsawKIMIkissingsantaclaus · 14/12/2007 11:49

Well my sister invited her boyfriends parents and two sisters (how we had not met) to come to my open house the other week and stay over, without asking me first. She dropped this in to the conversation two days before the party! they were lovely people
