Dog poo knife

DH has ‘dared’ me to post this, so convinced he is you’ll be on his side…

DS stood in dog poo, DH said he scraped it off using a dinner knife out of the kitchen drawer. I said wtf - hope that knife’s in the bin now?! No says he - dishwasher, or actually kitchen sink, waiting to go in dishwasher.

AIBU to think this is a shitshow and he should have put it in the bin (if it makes a difference our knife collection is on the ‘eclectic’ side so it wouldn’t be mucking up a ‘set’ to chuck one), or is he right that a quick wash and then back in gobs 🤢 is fine?!

I would bin the shoe even before the knife situation 🤮

LoveFall · 15/10/2021 21:13

Ok, it seems I am inclined in an opposite direction.

The question I would ask is what possible harm can come from thoroughly cleaning the knife and putting it back in circulation?

Are all the other posters just psychologically unable to deal with it?

What about things like surgical instruments? They get bodily fluids all over them and are reused after cleaning.

My issue would be using the kitchen sink for the poo removing job. Yuck. But we don't have a laundry or outside sink.

Just clean the knife, soak in bleach and get on with life!

BethAfra · 15/10/2021 21:16

We had a poo knife when I was a child. I'm starting to think this is generational. My mum and my dad both used the knife to clean dog poo off our shoes. It was washed afterwards and then went I the normal washing up (no dishwasher) then back I the drawer with all the other knives. BUT it wasn't a knife we would normally use for eating. I did have a poo knife myself, more recently, but it lived in a jam jar under the kitchen sink with old toothbrushes. Not sure where it went but I couldn't use it for eating. I got grossed out by the cat food spoon so not using a poo knife, even though I know how cleaning works.

TheKeatingFive · 15/10/2021 21:17

I am normally the first to take the piss out of the mumsnet hygiene hysterics, but I would bin the knife in these circs.

Mymapuddlington · 15/10/2021 21:17

Why do you need a poo knife!!?? Surely no one steps in poo that often?!

MinnieJackson · 15/10/2021 21:21

@BreadmanAndCake I thought of this too! And Mary 'is it dog dirt?!' 😂

Lostmarbles2021 · 15/10/2021 21:24

LoveFall

Surgical instruments are sadly incinerated - found that out recently.

Fifthtimelucky · 15/10/2021 21:25

I'm amazed that so many people would throw things away rather than just wash them properly.

I would reuse a pair of shoes with cat poo, a mug with vomit, a frying pan with cat wee and a knife with dog poo!

I can't imagine ever using a knife to scrape dog poo in the first place though.

suk44 · 15/10/2021 21:30

If it looked different from other knives then at least you could choose whether to use it or not, if there's matching ones you'd always be wondering if you were about to eat using THAT knife Shock

LopsidedWombat · 15/10/2021 21:37

@BreadmanAndCake

This just reminds me of the scene in the Royle Family where Barbara is over the sink chipping dog shit off a trainer with a knife Envy
Exactly what I thought of as well Grin

Agree it should have been appropriately cleaned and put in the shed/out of the way for the next time someone steps in a turd.

ThedaBara · 15/10/2021 21:50

Put your sink in the bin!

rrhuth · 15/10/2021 21:52

I would struggle to ever use the sink again, not just the knife.

dairyfarmerswife · 15/10/2021 22:04

I would be more worried about DS's shoes. A metal knife will be absolutely fine although I would probably wash it in the sink before the dishwasher.

There again I get covered in cow poo on a regular basis. Not quite the same but things and people can be cleaned...

CharleyMarley · 15/10/2021 22:13

So fucking disgusting that I cannot believe this is real.

..,it's not real is it.....?!?! 🤢

RunningToHeaven · 15/10/2021 22:20

And people were appalled at others putting dog bowls in the dishwasher on previous threads....doesn’t seem so bad now does it. 😂

SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT A SICK SPOON IS?

Notcontent · 15/10/2021 22:33

Noooo

You use a stick or something similar to scrape all of it off. Hose it off outside if you have outside space. Then get a bucket of hot water and detergent and an old rag and give it a final clean.

jetadore · 15/10/2021 22:36

Christ, no, surely for the smell alone, never mind the biohazard.

ANameChangeAgain · 15/10/2021 22:36

Ewww, manky git!! Save it for special occasions such as preparing food just for him!!

TheChip · 15/10/2021 22:36

SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT A SICK SPOON IS?
Sick spoon? 😫
jetadore · 15/10/2021 22:38

Also we keep a hoard of old toothbrushes and dish sponges for such situations.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 15/10/2021 22:42

Revolting. I still can't eat off the spoon that was used in my childhood to get the cat food out of the can that my parents still have, despite decades and countless sterilisations having taken place in the interim.

It makes me shudder just to think of this, and to put it in the kitchen sink as well 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮

GTAlogic · 15/10/2021 22:47

When I used to have a dog I had a special dog poo knife for scraping out the shit from the treads of my shoe. I kept it by the back door.

worriedatthemoment · 15/10/2021 22:47

Def in the bin , now i would have ti bin it and then bleach my sink

Please don't!
