Dog poo knife

DH has ‘dared’ me to post this, so convinced he is you’ll be on his side…

DS stood in dog poo, DH said he scraped it off using a dinner knife out of the kitchen drawer. I said wtf - hope that knife’s in the bin now?! No says he - dishwasher, or actually kitchen sink, waiting to go in dishwasher.

AIBU to think this is a shitshow and he should have put it in the bin (if it makes a difference our knife collection is on the ‘eclectic’ side so it wouldn’t be mucking up a ‘set’ to chuck one), or is he right that a quick wash and then back in gobs 🤢 is fine?!

My dad used a kitchen knife to scrape dog poo off a shoe when I was little. 40 years later my parents still have the knife and I still retch whenever I see one of them using it.....

Christmas1988 · 15/10/2021 18:57

Reminds me of the episode in the Royal Family where Barbra cleans dog shit off with a knife into the sink, makes me gag just thinking about it!

sendaisnow · 15/10/2021 18:58

At first I thought it would be fine if sterilised, but I don't think I could actually use any of my knives again if it got mixed up. Food would never be the same.

Jubaju · 15/10/2021 18:58

Nope 🤢

What’s a sick spoon?
Cats pissing in frying pans 😂😂😂

Hoppinggreen · 15/10/2021 18:59

No
Even if the logical part of me knew it had been washed and sterilised I couldn’t use it

Cuddlemuffin · 15/10/2021 18:59

I would bin it!!! It definitely wouldn't be back in house, definitely definitely not in the kitchen! I could tolerate it being scrubbed outside and kept for future use in the garage but in reality I would just put it in the bin. Your OH is being unreasonable!

TheChip · 15/10/2021 19:00

Why did he go for a knife and not a screwdriver, if he really wanted to use something you could keep?

Both would be a bit minging, but a screwdriver I could let slide.
The knife, I'd either clean it and put it with tools for future disgusting work, or bin it. I'd probably bin it to be honest just so I don't need to get up close and personal with dog shit.

vixeyann · 15/10/2021 19:06

If my OH did that he would be going in the bin. Rank.

Spidey66 · 15/10/2021 19:06

@ErrolTheDragon

It should be thoroughly washed and then stored somewhere (maybe with garden tools) for future non-food uses.
I think this what id do. I'm a domestic slattern, who rarely worries about germs etc, but even i have my limits.
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/10/2021 19:07

That knife would be dead to me. Straight in the bin.

I would usually use a biro for that and then chuck it.

Haha that came into my head too! With Darren/Corrie Kirk announcing at the end "i can still smell shit in here".

I have to miss that whole episode out when I watch The Royale Family.

queenMab99 · 15/10/2021 19:12

What a load of mardarses you are!

PurpleSapphire · 15/10/2021 19:15

Ooh no. Just the thought of it! We have a knife that lives in the garden, used for lawnmower scraping, weeding, opening paint etc..that should be its new job!

MerryMarigold · 15/10/2021 19:15

I would make him wash it, bin the sponge, bleach the sink and then put it in the dishwasher. I doubt he'd do it again.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 15/10/2021 19:26

poo crumbs

Pardon?

Batshitkerazy · 15/10/2021 19:33

Ewwwwwwww no, that knife would have to be binned immediately. And I’m usually quite mucky by mumsnet standards, wash pet bowls in the dishwasher etc

1forAll74 · 15/10/2021 19:34

I have done this a few times over the years, it is quite ok, you tend to reach for the most available, and suitable thing, to do a dog poo scraping off. Metal is not porous, and a quick wash in soapy water will suffice.. You simply don't just bin stuff because of something like this.

I had to use a handy metal spatula only this morning, to get two fat slugs off my kitchen floor, and slimy horrible slugs, are far worse than dog poo.

HanSB · 15/10/2021 19:41

That's pretty disgusting! I usually have wooden disposable chopsticks hanging around from a takeaway that I would use for such a situation

MissCruellaDeVil · 15/10/2021 19:42

Grim! If you can find the knife in question, bin it and anything else in the sink. If not then get new cutlery!

80Dodgeballs · 15/10/2021 19:45

That is the most disgusting thing I have ever read. I actually feel sick at the thought that he intended to put it in the dishwasher...

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 15/10/2021 19:46

Put the knife and the husband in the bin.

RunningToHeaven · 15/10/2021 19:47

That’s disgusting. I’d be worrying what other grim things he has done in the past. 🤮🤮🤮

Pinkandpink · 15/10/2021 19:49

God that gives me the boak. I have threw shoes away after standing on dog muck. I have a horrible phobia about dog poo though, I don’t even like standing on grass. Odd I know

PrincessPaws · 15/10/2021 19:55

Nope, even if it was bleached and put in the dishwasher 20 times I couldn't use that again
