Dog poo knife

DH has ‘dared’ me to post this, so convinced he is you’ll be on his side…

DS stood in dog poo, DH said he scraped it off using a dinner knife out of the kitchen drawer. I said wtf - hope that knife’s in the bin now?! No says he - dishwasher, or actually kitchen sink, waiting to go in dishwasher.

AIBU to think this is a shitshow and he should have put it in the bin (if it makes a difference our knife collection is on the ‘eclectic’ side so it wouldn’t be mucking up a ‘set’ to chuck one), or is he right that a quick wash and then back in gobs 🤢 is fine?!

Who's using a kitchen knife to scrap poo??? Please get rid of it or at least use it for diy jobs.

Flufferty · 15/10/2021 20:09

I’d wash it properly and keep it. It’s not going to be covered in dog shit after it’s been washed. I don’t see the problem

Flufferty · 15/10/2021 20:10

Do you think he’s done it before with your other cutlery and you never knew?

Thatsplentyjack · 15/10/2021 20:11

Definitely needs to go in the bin. You've no idea how many cooking utensils I've lost to dp blocking the toilets with his giant shits (I know no one needed or wanted to know that but it make me so angry). They all go straight in the bin.

@BreadmanAndCake

This just reminds me of the scene in the Royle Family where Barbara is over the sink chipping dog shit off a trainer with a knife Envy

I feel sick just thinking about it!!!

Newbi · 15/10/2021 20:14

I have a dog. And I’m not the most ridiculously house proud person. But sorry- absolutely unforgivable. That knife is dead. EnvyEnvyEnvy

ErrolTheDragon · 15/10/2021 20:15

I think the reason the OPs DH has lost his bet is that he, along with a minority of posters, don't share the same visceral disgust reaction that many of us do. It may not be entirely logical, but afaik it's an evolved survival mechanism which helps us avoid things that may make us ill.

Dancingbugbadge · 15/10/2021 20:17

Definitely grim and would not be eating with that! Why not use a stick?!?

Wrenna · 15/10/2021 20:17

Ugggg. He should never have used one in the first place! I’d first make him retrieve it, use a paper towel to scrape off as much as possible, make him a bleach solution (sorry I wouldn’t trust your dh to do it correctly if he thinks what he did was ok), Watch him wash it in bleach solution, then wash again with dish soap and boiling water, pour over with more boiling water then dry. And mix it up with all the other cutlery (ours was expensive so I’d keep it - if it was cheap I’d pitch it altogether) so no one would know which one it was. NO dishwasher!!

Bostonbullsmumma · 15/10/2021 20:31

I remember watching my friend do this when I was about 10! I was horrified and still am!!

Ohshittt · 15/10/2021 20:33

🤮 I'm definitely not a clean freak and probably slovenly by others standards but that is disgusting. Probably worse than the toilet brush in the dishwasher thread from a few weeks back 🤢

Lostmarbles2021 · 15/10/2021 20:41

I was going to write what it would take for me to use the knife again. Dishwasher on it own on hot? Boiling water? Bleach? All three? Nope. Still no. May be, if it was the last knife on earth.

This is something my DH might do. I feel your pain.

careerchangeperhaps · 15/10/2021 20:41

Well anything that's gone through the dishwasher will have been sterilised so it won't do you any harm, but it's still unbelievably gross.
Tell him to use a stick next time and then bin it before wiping the shoes down with some diluted Dettol on an old rag that can be thrown away.
In the meantime, give the sink a jolly good wash with a splash of bleach in the water.

This reminds me of a 'Not the Nine o'clock News' tear-off desk calendar that had a quote or thought for each day of the year and it went something along the lines of...

Given unlimited funding should all the scientists work to end world hunger or develop a device for getting dog shit off shoes that have a corrugated sole?

gah2teenagers · 15/10/2021 20:48

In the bin ! And the answer to why he didn’t use a stick is that it would be too much effort and the knife was right there.

Dontknowwhatsnext · 15/10/2021 20:52

This made me feel ill. I get that it's technically clean after the dishwasher, but no that knife shouldn't ever be used for food again.

Just asked dp and he agreed with me. We have 2 dogs so pick up alot of shit everyday. Not squeamish about that.

But this is just all kinds of wrong.

Nemorth · 15/10/2021 21:00

Me and DH have discussed it. We'd wash it outside. Wash it outside again. Then I'd sterilise it in Milton (in a disposable container) then I'd put it through the dishwasher. Then we'd use it. If it was from a set.

Random knife? Wash outside and keep for non food uses.

thefirstmrsrochester · 15/10/2021 21:01

Oh that gives me the heave, and I have pretty low standards. Up there with my mum who served up roast potatoes on Christmas Day a few years ago from a glass bowl formerly known to be as the ‘sick’ bowl of my childhood. She’s not short on fucking bowls, yet there it was, something me and my three siblings had yakked our guts up into when we were wee, right there on the dinner table 🤮

Nemorth · 15/10/2021 21:01

Oh. But this situation would never happen in the first place!!! So it's all theoretical.

LynetteScavo · 15/10/2021 21:01

It would depend how expensive the cutlery set was. If it was my nice set, I would soak it in disinfectant for several days and then boil and then pretend nothing had ever happened. A cheap set and it's straight in the bin.

I recently binned a nice pair of fitflop ballerinas because I couldn't deal with the cat poop I'd walked in.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 15/10/2021 21:03

Hahahahahahahahaha! Hahahahahahaha! So funny that your DH made you post this. That is gross. The knife should be relegated to none food uses.

Tulips15 · 15/10/2021 21:05

That is disgusting.
