you cant moan about the cost of something, because there is always osmeone here who has a hell of a lot less, wo they lambast you for being able to even think about getting it.
or they moan at you for having too much time on your hands
or too little
or being a sahm
or not being one
or bloody anthing. its just not possible to have a moan about anything anymore. every one is soooo pc about everything.
its turning into real life.

I think it's a teensy bit up its own bottom in the PC stakes, sometimes. If you ask a question, thought, or ask for advice, don't expect to just to get the answer or advice you want to hear. That's when people get upset - when the message hits a nerve.

zippitippitoes · 09/12/2007 16:52

golly sweetheart u have it bad hun u need a cuddle

BahHunkerBug · 09/12/2007 16:52

I write seriously on here, often - maybe as if I'm sitting an exam. I like to research things, I like to discuss things I think are important with other intelligent women (and men).

Apparently that's slate-able now too. Cool.

Swedes2Turnips1 · 09/12/2007 16:52

I meant though not thought !

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 09/12/2007 16:54

Yeah, hunker, don't write serious stuff on MN. It's a parenting site. Certainly we all know parenting isn't about serious stuff!

BahHunkerBug · 09/12/2007 16:55

Can it be called ShitsNGigglesnet.com?

zippitippitoes · 09/12/2007 16:56

i completely forget it's a parenting site actually

pukkapatch · 09/12/2007 16:59

its more a chat in the evening site to me than a parenting siete. that is part is incidental isnt it?

hifi · 09/12/2007 16:59

oh beeper thank you for voicing the global warming scam, my thaughts but not as brave as you to mention it, biggest scam since year 2000 melt down.

hifi · 09/12/2007 17:00

also you get jumped on for not being poor.

JingleyJen · 09/12/2007 17:01

I have only recently come to MN and I have to say having been on other more schmoltzy sites where everyone agrees with everyone else it is refreshing to see people having different points of view. (And stating them!)

sorry gotta go and get tea for the kids

zippitippitoes · 09/12/2007 17:04

strangely although it is miles bigger..i can stil find people i know psoting straightaway..i'm just not good at knowing new people doesn't stop me posting to them kjust stops me remembering them

fircone · 09/12/2007 17:07

I just don't get why some people are so po-faced about everything.

There was a thread the other day where people were moaning about people reserving all the seats in the M&S cafe - specifically early retired people. So on come all these posters beating their breasts saying "How dare you? Those reserving seats may have [insert two million disabilities/diseases]"

Well, I dare, cos I'd be willing to bet 99.9% of the culprits didn't have something wrong with them, and why can't I say so?

How do the pc brigade sniff out threads to which they can take deep offence?

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 09/12/2007 17:10

zippittitippittitoes, I think I always remember you because everytime I've posted at you I've got your name wrong

ScottishMummy · 09/12/2007 17:10

point of an open discussion site is to discuss and inevitably views/opinions are expressed that are diametrically opposed to your's - well that's just life. None of this is real life, it is a bunch o people blethering with computers. the anonymous nature of the Internet means people can express views more vociferously than they would in RL, and many do

dont take it too heat pukkapatch. really switch off pc, and switch off.

zippitippitoes · 09/12/2007 17:15

actually i do remember the victorian squalor name mainly because i live in it

pinetreedog · 09/12/2007 17:16

I quite like the rough and tumble of a message board where people say what they think. But I know what you mean. Sometimes you're not in the mood for being taken the wrong way or being stronlgy disagreed with.

soopermum1 · 09/12/2007 17:19

i have to say, i think MN can be a witch hunt-ish at times. sometimes i daren't post what i think for fear of the quite aggressively toned posts i would anticipate in reply

holidaywonk · 09/12/2007 17:20

I see pinetree. Is that what happened this morning while I was defending your honour?

Desiderata · 09/12/2007 17:21

Ah, SM ... it's fine to have opposing views, but I don't really think that's what Pukka is griping about.

It's the endless capacity for people to take offense by proxy that's pissing her off.

Now, if I said, 'Lapin, that's a fucking fat arse you've got there,' that would be grounds for offence. Even though it might be, for all I know

A fat arse, I mean.

Taking offence on behalf of others (which is largely what pc is all about) is patronizing. It suggests that whole swathes of people are not capable of sticking up for themselves. Which begs the question, 'where on earth have you been all your lives?'

So yes, it's frustrating and it's compelling.

Desiderata · 09/12/2007 17:24

OK, since I'm here ...

How do I get the Christmas hat?

VeVacuaMerryChristmas · 09/12/2007 17:27

I like it, there's a thread for every mood - you can get serious, heartfelt support in one area and act like as much of a knob as you want in another, and it is FUN sometimes to snigger at the complaints of the pustular poor

pinetreedog · 09/12/2007 17:31

thank you for coming to my defen ce, wonkers. And des. I buggered off Christmas shopping immediately after starting that thread.

Imagine my surprise when I read it all 5 mins ago

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 09/12/2007 17:31

Lol Vacua.

I have to admit, friday night I couldn;t possibly have got into an argument with all the weird threads that were going on, and sometimes if I'm feeling slightly stroppy I will type my posts less tactfully.

pinetreedog · 09/12/2007 17:32

there do seem to be quite a few angry threads about
