Do you think you would survive in a zombie apocalypse?

YABU - no, not a chance they would catch me and eat me.

YANBU - I would survive and would be fine.

Yes, I've seen massive amounts of zombie movies, played loads of zombie video games, and I also own a number of firearms and shotguns so :P

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 15/10/2021 11:28

I, in the barricade myself in and build a stronghold camp.

DH and I have had several lengthy and detailed discussions on this while watching zombie movies and shows. I think we'd be great at the survivalist/making do bit, not so good t running and fighting so we'd play to our strengths, stockpile food, raise rabbits for meat, chickens for eggs and retrofit the house for defence , wood burning cooking/heating and alternative water source plumbing.

scully29 · 15/10/2021 11:33

Have you all seen In the Flesh? its amazing.

Steelesauce · 15/10/2021 12:01

I think I could, not sure how I'd fair dragging the kids along with me. My daughter doesn't have the ability to do as she's told or be quiet so she'd be getting us into all kinds of trouble. My and the lads could probably make it.

I'm in a fairly useful job for an apocalypse so id hope I could find some people to hold up with and they'll take care of us because I was useful 🤣

Alsonification · 15/10/2021 12:14

Myself & the kids live a 2 mins walk from an army barracks that the army don’t use anymore. It’s a big place with huge walls around it with barbed wire on top, loads of buildings inside plus a huge amount of land, so our plan is to make it there & barricade ourselves in. We can live off the land for as long as we need.

julieca · 15/10/2021 13:08

@Alsonification surely you would have to fight off your neighbours?

Thatsplentyjack · 15/10/2021 14:39

If they move as slow as the ones in the walking dead I'll be absolutely fine. If they are like world war z, I'm fucked.

mellowy · 15/10/2021 14:43

I think I’d be alright actually. We’re a while away from any cities, we grow a lot of our own food anyway and DH would be good if we needed to hunt animals for food. I’d be no good if they were world war Z zombies though because they scare the shit out of me

Siriisatwat · 15/10/2021 14:44

I’ve been in training for this my whole life.

By that, I mean I’ve watched a lot of films and read a lot of books.

I’ll be alive long after you are all dead.

Or, if i get bitten, I’d be one of my beloved Zombies, so it’s a win win for me.

Siriisatwat · 15/10/2021 14:47

@Vanuatu

28 Days Later completely changed my plans for a zombie apocalypse. I can't outrun a toddler so would last about two seconds Grin
They weren’t Zombie though. They were infected with a virus, they weren’t the reanimated dead.

(I’ve had many drunken arguments over that film).

Siriisatwat · 15/10/2021 14:47

Real zombies are slow and amble along while rotting because they are dead bodies. Walk in the park.

Neonplant · 15/10/2021 14:50

Nah I wouldn't survive!

Pippyweather · 15/10/2021 14:51

It depends.
Shaun of the Dead type slow zombies we'd be fine. DH and i have a plan all worked out already and several of our friends have said they would nip round to ours as we'd be so well prepared.

28 Days Later type fast running zombies, we'd probably be fucked.

Alsonification · 15/10/2021 14:52

@julieca well yes I didn’t think of that hahaha

Ok the barracks are big enough to house a good few people, probably 50 or more, so once we could live together harmoniously I’d be happy to share.

KarlUrbansWife · 15/10/2021 14:52

Only if my husband were with me when the apocalypse happened. He knows all the survival tricks.

HuhWhatNow · 15/10/2021 15:29

Please, I've had my apocalypse plan ready to go for years.

We should make it but sadly I also think the fact that I have kids will count against me. I'd end up getting killed trying to save them.

It also helps that my dad is a gun enthusiast hunter, lives in an easily defensible farm and he even has welding equipment and a bullet making workshop. I just need to get to his house and keep him alive. He can adapt a Landrover or two to become almost impenetrable tanks for supply runs.

julieca · 15/10/2021 15:32

@Siriisatwat I can tell you have strong opinions about this Grin

@HuhWhatNow do you need a hanger-on who can cook well and look after the kids?

I know, I need a life BlushGrin

HuhWhatNow · 15/10/2021 15:45

@julieca hmm... that depends. Can you whip up good meals with lots of things like dried beans etc? I've enough dried goods and canned foods to last my family quite a few months til things settle down and the zombies have dispersed a bit or been stabbed through the head by survivor groups.

Thanks to mum and her never having much food in and meals being irregular and never guaranteed most days because she wasn't hungry herself I now have a food hoarding habit. Pretty much a useless habit until we do have a zombie apocalypse.

Wejustdontknow · 15/10/2021 15:48

Zombies are my biggest fear, I dream about them often but do always survive so possibly 🤷🏻‍♀️
My ds15 loves a good talk on zombie apocalypse’s and to plan how to survive, I always say it’s not worth the hassle so I will give myself up straight away and join the zombie army

bloodywhitecat · 15/10/2021 15:51

I have chickens. Chickens are killers. Chickens will make mincemeat of any zombie so I will be OK.

HuhWhatNow · 15/10/2021 15:53

@Siriisatwat I feel that you and I could be survival camp mates.

Given that natural death takes 28 Days later infectees all we would have to do is wait it out.

True zombies would also be a waiting game however. Given that they are actively rotting, by fact of biology alone they would be on their way to dying (providing that the lore of destroying the brain is true). The brains would decompose and be destroyed, they would cease to function and the zombies would be dead, dead. Add in a winter freeze and those still undead would be easily dispatched too as they'd be frozen, immovable lumps.

Bring on the ZA!

FourTeaFallOut · 15/10/2021 15:56

Romero Zombies - fine, I think I could peacefully co-exist by shutting a few doors. World War Z zombies, no fucking chance.

I know, it’s all so easy.

Wait it out somewhere safe with food and water and don’t panic!

It’s the other living people i’d be wary of. The world is full of dickheads.
