To ask how often you shower

Inspired by a lot of comments posted in a recent thread on here! (Apologies if there is already a thread on here as I'm not too sure how to navigate MN fully yet.)

How often do you shower/have a bath? Twice a day, daily, couple times a week, weekly etc. If you don't shower daily, do you just have a quick sink wash on the days you don't shower or do you simply brush your teeth and straight out of the door? I'm intrigued to know and hoping people will be a bit more honest as it's an anonymous forumWink

On this recent thread, a poster had made several comments saying they don't understand how people only wash themselves with their hands and not a flannel or sponge. AIBU to think that using your hands to wash is quite common and seems to be done by the majority?

There was also a comment by another poster about not washing their legs in the shower as soap and hot water runs down them so no need to focus on these areas specifically.
Quite a random topic but I'm intrigued to hear from other people on here

Daily…height of summer twice a day.

Hoesbeforebroes · 14/10/2021 23:21

On average daily, sometimes I prefer first thing in the morning and other times, last thing before bed, so I might either miss a day or have 2 in a day when I am switching my routine.

No flannel (except for my face) or sponge. Don't specifically wash my legs unless needed, except for a weekly exfoliating scrub.

Wouldn't dream of doing a strip wash at the sink. The shower is right there next to the sink and is quicker and feels better!

CherryPieface · 14/10/2021 23:22

Shower every morning, use a bar of soap all over, don’t feel clean unless I use a bar. If I use shower gel it’s just because it smells nice but I use that at the end. I also have a bath most week nights but that’s to chill and relax and read my books. Wash hair most days but that’s because I sweat a lot at night!

Hoesbeforebroes · 14/10/2021 23:23

And I wash my hair as infrequently as possible, around twice a week, just with conditioner not shampoo.

TheSmallAssassin · 14/10/2021 23:23

Why not just read any of the many threads that already exist on this subject? I doubt any of them have ever changed anyone's mind about how often or not to shower, so the responses to this will be the same as every other thread.

Every evening I have a bath, in the morning I do a flannel wash (face, pits and bits).

Hair is washed 3 times a week.

StillMedusa · 14/10/2021 23:23

Daily.. evenings just before bed so I flop into bed feeling clean. No time in the morning!
Shower on hair wash days 3x a week. Baths on inbetween days as I like to soak. I like sponges with one rough side to scrub!

HollowTalk · 14/10/2021 23:24

@BrilloPaddy

Every morning without fail, and most evenings before putting PJ's on.

I use a scrubby netty thingy (whatever they are called), and wash my legs but only because I'm diabetic and get horribly dry skin. I then have to coat them in oily moisturiser when I dry myself.

Make sure you don't use those net things when you're washing your breasts. A friend of mine at work always used them and it was only when she didn't one day that she realised she had a lump. Obviously it wasn't caused by the net but the doctors told her that if there is a barrier between your hand and your skin then you don't notice lumps.
SmallWaistFatFace · 14/10/2021 23:24

Either every day or every other day, hair wash once a week as I don't need to do it more frequently than that.

CuriouslyStardust · 14/10/2021 23:24

Once a year Wink

erin48 · 14/10/2021 23:24

I use a body shop scrubber thing for my body, including legs and feet. A flannel for underneath and another flannel for my face.

mswales · 14/10/2021 23:25

Most days but I only use soap on my armpits. Some days I just do an armpit wash in the sink. Only wash my hair once a week, i have a dry scalp - and dry sensitive skin generally hence not using soap. Using soap anywhere else feels pointless anyway - and you definitely shouldn't use soap on your bits.

AllthingsSummer · 14/10/2021 23:25

Morning-Big Wash in the shower which includes hair, face, whole body etc. I don’t use a flannel but use a new muslin cloth on my face each day. Would feel sleepy without it!

Evening-Quick Shower which includes face, pits etc with a fetching shower cap on!

careerchangeperhaps · 14/10/2021 23:26

Once a day (in the morning) with an extra shower in the evening if I've been for a run.

I wash with my hand and a bar of soap.

I don't specifically wash my legs unless they've got mud splatted up them or something.

erin48 · 14/10/2021 23:26

@sendaisnow

Can someone explain the mechanics of a strip/sink bath?

Honestly not being goady. O just don't know how it works. I may need to incorporate it into my life.

Every morning I fill the sink with hot soapy water, stand naked on a towel and do my face, pits and bits. Let soapy water out, rinse flannel and wipe over again. Then dry and dress (after deodorant etc)
savagebaggagemaster · 14/10/2021 23:27

Daily - either in the morning or evening. I wash everywhere, including legs. I only wash my hair every second (or even third!) day.
I only use bar soap these days after years of shower gel. What a difference.

FangsForTheMemory · 14/10/2021 23:28

Twice a day. Every other day I wash my hair too and go over every inch with a rough cloth.

AnnieSnap · 14/10/2021 23:29

I have a bath about every 3 days, but I use a bidet every day and wash. I go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week and shower after a work out, but that would be instead of a bath, not in addition to. As someone else said, unless you do a physical job, it get sweaty for another reason, there is no need to shower or bath daily. Doing so is bad for our skin, our energy bills and the environment!

I have to take a bath because I have a condition that makes me faint in the shower. I know it’s not as hygienic as showering so I bathe at least once a day but usually twice.

Barney60 · 14/10/2021 23:34

Bath every morning, summer months or after a busy day depending on what ive done shower in the evening.
Im not a sweaty person, but i cant put clean clothes on my body if its not fresh from one or the other.
I dont know any one who doesnt do the same.

Katlow · 14/10/2021 23:37

This always baffles me.
I have a sedentary job working in an office. I used to shower every other day. I'd wash my hair once a week as I wear a high bun and it looks better when it's not washed and stays in place. My hairs bleach blonde and super healthy and I put this down to letting the oils build up in my hair.
I have a baby now and on maternity leave. I basically shower when I get chance. I aim for every other day but can go 3-4 days without a shower.
I don't smell, I don't look unkempt.
Then again, I don't exercise so I don't really sweat much but it's so drying to the skin to wash it every day.
Then again, I bathe my baby every night so I dont practice what I preach.

Kljnmw3459 · 14/10/2021 23:39

4 times a day, except winter months when I bath/shower once a month.

MrsMiddleMother · 14/10/2021 23:39

Every other day, I can't shower without washing my hair. once or twice a day in the summer months

LemonSwan · 14/10/2021 23:43

I used to shower every day, twice even and still stink of BO. Was teased about it at school.

Weirdly DP never ever smells of BO - ever. The man could not shower for a month and not smell (he doesnt - but honestly can wear the same tshirt for 2 weeks and not smell). Its bizarre.

About 3 years ago I ran out and started using his roll on deodorant. Now I can get smelly but it takes like 3-4 days. Very pleased I seem to have borrowed his excellent arm pit bacteria to neutralise mine.
