To ask how often you shower

Inspired by a lot of comments posted in a recent thread on here! (Apologies if there is already a thread on here as I'm not too sure how to navigate MN fully yet.)

How often do you shower/have a bath? Twice a day, daily, couple times a week, weekly etc. If you don't shower daily, do you just have a quick sink wash on the days you don't shower or do you simply brush your teeth and straight out of the door? I'm intrigued to know and hoping people will be a bit more honest as it's an anonymous forumWink

On this recent thread, a poster had made several comments saying they don't understand how people only wash themselves with their hands and not a flannel or sponge. AIBU to think that using your hands to wash is quite common and seems to be done by the majority?

There was also a comment by another poster about not washing their legs in the shower as soap and hot water runs down them so no need to focus on these areas specifically.
Quite a random topic but I'm intrigued to hear from other people on here

I would love to be one of those 'hair washers' 2-3 times a week.

That very much depends on the hair. If I had the fine, straight texture that can sometimes look lank at the roots after a day, I'd wash daily. Over washing isn't great for my hair type which is that naturally curly, thick texture that can be prone to dryness. Also my curls are not too tight so as long as I use a curl-enhancing serum on it - I swear by a lovely Tigi one - I can wash it, sleep on it, and it will dry looking fine in the morning. I wash either every other day or every three days, when it feels as though it needs it.

Body-washing's another matter though. I think I might be entering peri-menopause and have noticed certain changes in my body over the last 3 years or so: not had any hot flashes yet but I can wake up sometimes with my PJs drenched, which is hideous. I bath or shower every morning and usually during the evenings. Clothes, especially the upper half, now need to be washed after one wearing (most of my stuff can be hand-washed and drip-dried though).

I hate not feeling clean and am paranoid about stinking!

Sorry, work colleagues in all my jobs confirmed I never had any odour even when I was a smoker. People's bodies are different.

We've all been polite to smelly people and smokers. It's easier to sometimes smell something bad than always be the hated colleague that spoke up.
Mantlemoose · 16/10/2021 11:52

Every second day and hair wash twice a week. I don't sweat and am very lazy.

Smokers always stink, sorry, they were lying.
GrolliffetheDragon · 16/10/2021 11:58

6 times a week normally, occasionally 5 if I've been too busy, say if DS is ill or maybe if I'm ill. Occasionally twice a day in summer or if I've been doing physical work or heavy exercise.

Hair twice a week.

zingally · 16/10/2021 12:47

Every 3 days... ish. More in the summer, less in the winter.

I'm not naturally a smelly person, so unless I particularly feel like having one, I just stick to my twice-weekly hair wash.

whattodo2019 · 16/10/2021 12:49

I shower every morning and wash my very thin hair! I sometimes shower or bath in the evenings as well.
I wouldn't EVER leave the house unless I was showered and had washed my hair.

No Just no one was direct enough to tell you As a smoker you’ll have had a pong. Musty smoky smell on your hair body and clothes
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 16/10/2021 12:51

Once every other day. Hair is done every 5ish. I use a soap sponge. We all have one each.

Sonex · 16/10/2021 12:52

Twice a day here.

Smokers always smell if they don't shower regularly, same as people that don't wash daily smell of BO. Anyone thinking otherwise has been the victim of people being polite.

How do people shower without washing their hair? As soon as mine hits the steam it goes horrible unless it's washed

Shower cap or clip
Looubylou · 16/10/2021 13:09

Twice a day on work days and once on days off, unless getting ready for an event, or go swimming. I have for the past 4 months stopped using shower gel, and shower body with water only. I look clean and I am assured by those close enough to say, that I don't smell. My skin no longer looks dry and dandruff on my legs as a result.

TheVampiresWife · 16/10/2021 13:13

Never - I don't have one!

queenofarles · 16/10/2021 13:16

I tie my hair up (and will go to work with it tied up also)

“How do people shower without washing their hair? As soon as mine hits the steam it goes horrible unless it's washed”

I have never noticed this phenomenon. I just keep my head out of the water. My hair may get wet round the edges.

SunsetStyle · 16/10/2021 14:07

Depends on the type of hair you have I think. I also go for a quick, cool shower if I'm not washing my hair, so much less steam (and I use a shower cap)

I clip my my hair up and then put on a showercap .
PinkSyCo · 16/10/2021 18:11

Every 2 or 3 days. But I do actually wash in the shower (legs included) as opposed to just letting the water run down me.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 16/10/2021 19:35

I shower every morning, and after work in the evening or if I've been to the gym. I used to use a shower puff but haven't got one atm, so just use my hands. I soap up all my body, including legs - my feet stink by the end of the day and need a good scrub! In the morning I usually have a "sailor's shower': turn the water on, get wet, then turn it off and properly soap up everywhere, then rinse off.

Wash my hair every 2 to 3 days.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 16/10/2021 19:36

Oh, and I also have a rather fetching glittery shower cap to avoid getting my hair wet Grin
