To ask how often you shower

Inspired by a lot of comments posted in a recent thread on here! (Apologies if there is already a thread on here as I'm not too sure how to navigate MN fully yet.)

How often do you shower/have a bath? Twice a day, daily, couple times a week, weekly etc. If you don't shower daily, do you just have a quick sink wash on the days you don't shower or do you simply brush your teeth and straight out of the door? I'm intrigued to know and hoping people will be a bit more honest as it's an anonymous forumWink

On this recent thread, a poster had made several comments saying they don't understand how people only wash themselves with their hands and not a flannel or sponge. AIBU to think that using your hands to wash is quite common and seems to be done by the majority?

There was also a comment by another poster about not washing their legs in the shower as soap and hot water runs down them so no need to focus on these areas specifically.
Quite a random topic but I'm intrigued to hear from other people on here

So apologies - its about once every 2-3 days. And I do a physical job - but I am used to it so dont break a sweat.

Notjustanymum · 14/10/2021 23:47

Shower daily - most of the time! About once every 10 days I have a day off - but only since I’ve been WFH. Wash hair twice a week (long hair - takes ages to dry). If I ever get the opportunity to exercise then it’ll be a shower twice in a day, but that isn’t happening at the moment due to other commitments...

mountbattenbergcake · 14/10/2021 23:51

@LemonSwan

I used to shower every day, twice even and still stink of BO. Was teased about it at school.

Weirdly DP never ever smells of BO - ever. The man could not shower for a month and not smell (he doesnt - but honestly can wear the same tshirt for 2 weeks and not smell). Its bizarre.

About 3 years ago I ran out and started using his roll on deodorant. Now I can get smelly but it takes like 3-4 days. Very pleased I seem to have borrowed his excellent arm pit bacteria to neutralise mine.

This is me, just do not smell.

But love the feeling after a shower.

I haven't read the full thread (I know its not long but its late)
Is there the obligatory person who insists they can smell at 20 paces whether you showered hourly/daily/weekly or can tell who didn't wash their fanjo, after visiting a public toilet??
And whether you are wearing a scented pantyliner?

Lol,yes we will build up to that. The women who can smell a teena pad or plug on from a block away. The chemical whiff of pants and plugs will induce fevers and hallucinations. They’ll insist they cannot walk past lush without a sneezing fit Rapidly followed by the soap dodger who’ll claim their fanny is self cleansing and insist they don’t need fripperies like soap We have already had the husband who is just manly clean. No sweat.ever

I wish I had been blessed in other ways instead Lemon 😂

Mamanyt · 15/10/2021 00:04

It depends. Daily, always, to get really clean. However, I often have really bad leg cramps, and when I do, soaking in hot water gets rid of them faster than anything else, so I've been know to take an extra soak (or three) on bad leg-cramp days.

Hillary17 · 15/10/2021 00:07

Honestly you people are too clean! I shower maybe once a day but sometimes every other day. What are you doing to warrant a second shower?! I just won’t see the point if I smell okay and feel clean. Have a good wash every morning and doing teeth 2x a day. Wash hair every 2nd / 3rd dayZ.

Spidey66 · 15/10/2021 00:11

Usually daily and hair washed every other day.

However I broke my arm a month back, have been off sick since and had surgery 2 weeks ago. Currently have high levels of anxiety about falling in the shower and making the injury worse and also dont want to get the dressing too wet, so currently every three days. I'm going out for a walk in the park every day and for hospital OPA regularly, tie the showers in with the appointments.

Spidey66 · 15/10/2021 00:14

@Kljnmw3459

4 times a day, except winter months when I bath/shower once a month.
Seriously? From 4 times a day to monthly? Talk about extremes!
starfishmummy · 15/10/2021 00:15

Once a year...

Seriously it depends what I'm doing that day.

Notcontent · 15/10/2021 00:21

I have a shower every morning. I disagree that washing daily is bad for your skin. It might be bad if you are really scrubbing yourself with harsh soaps twice a day but not if you have a quick shower. I have reasonably oily skin so start feeling itchy and sticky if I don’t have a quick daily shower.

SleepyEyes1 · 15/10/2021 00:26

Shower before work and then again when I come home. I'll quickly clean up,vaccume get dinner on then shower and settle down and have dinner or watch a bit of telly. I used to wash my hair everyday but it really didn't need as it's long and would takes ages to dry naturally so wash it every 2 days now.

What fascinates me is why this same thread is started at least fortnightly. Confused

Don't get me wrong - I'm really interested in people. I love people watching. I love a bit of inward / silent judging. I am fascinated by how different people live their lives. I will put my hands up to being nosey, but why would ^anyone possibly be interested in how often a person showers ? Confused

I think quite a few studies have found that too many showers/baths can lower our immune systems, hence advice not to bathe kids every day,
EpitomeOfIndifference · 15/10/2021 00:29

Every morning before work I shower and wash my hair. I have very fine hair and if I don’t wash it daily it becomes extremely greasy (I’ve tried to ‘train’ it to go longer but it hasn’t worked). I don’t feel properly clean or awake until I’ve showered.

scarpa · 15/10/2021 00:31

Shower/bath most days, but not every - maybe 7 in 10?

If I'm going somewhere more than the corner shop I will but if I'm WFH (so, a few days a week)/it's a lazy Saturday I probably won't. Always brush my teeth though, they're bad enough as it is.

Hair washed once a week, it's curly and it'd be fucked if I did it more than that. Last day it's usually in a bun but otherwise it looks and smells fine, took me some time to train it but now it's better than ever!

I use a scrubby type thing (plastic-free, so less environment-killing) in the shower, I don't feel clean otherwise, but respect others' rights to not use the scrubby thing. A flannel for body washing feels grotty but I have absolutely nothing other than gut feeling to back this up, especially as apparently said scrubby things are full of germs and maybe I'm the grotbag.

Always wash legs, shower or not. Not that I think they're particularly dirty, just part of the routine!

me4real · 15/10/2021 00:32

I think we are all a bit too clean and unless you do a physical job or are particularly sweaty/exercise a lot there is no need to shower every day.

@DrWankincense People would definitely smell me. Grin

I'm not a flannel person either @yesterdayisinthepast

I think people enjoy being outraged at how wrong everyone else is if they don't do things exactly 'their' way - I have to admit I love scrolling through this and tutting dramatically at the 3-times-a-day showerers as though they should be up in the Hague, and I've no doubt someone else is reading my answer and enjoying a good bit of outrage at my disgusting slovenliness Grin

My son with asd has licked disgusting things (he’s outgrown thankfully) including public toilet floor and loads of lampposts. We’ve swam in lakes, had mud fights, played in the dirt finding insects then eaten sandwiches without washing hands. I’m the opposite of a germaphobe.
He’s 11 now, he has asd and asthma. But his immune system is crazy good. Rarely gets ill. Never had the flu or a cold. Has had d&v a couple of times but over it really quickly. Currently we both have covid symptoms, he’s doing well though so I’m hoping it turns out to be a cold.

Ledition · 15/10/2021 00:35

Two baths a day?! Grin don't you people have jobs? Responsibilities?? Who on gods green earth has time for that?! What a waste of water too. And surely your skin is dried out like a prune? I don't understand!

To answer your question OP, I shower most mornings, might skip it occasionally. Generally wash my hair every time too but again may skip on occasion if I'm in a hurry. Depends!

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 15/10/2021 00:36

Daily / twice on the days I go to the gym (4 days a week).

Hair wash? Every 4 days.

This! I couldn't bear two baths a day.
