Insulate Britain - a bunch of loonies or rightful cause?

EerieSilence · 13/10/2021 10:53

I'm watching the videos with Insulate Britain people blocking the motorists, people driving their children to school, hospitals or simply going to work.
I don't get the cause and the way they chose. I'm a leftist myself and participated at demonstrations but this, I really don't understand.
How is blocking normal people doing their normal business going to achieve anything?
If it happened to me, I would be pissed off and wouldn't care one iota about the cause. Why don't they protest in front of Boris's expensive nursery, blocking ways to Queen's residences and parliament but instead target people who didn't cause the problem?

Mrs fezziweig, well as they are trying to get people to change their behaviour, your post makes zero sense

Iquitit · 13/10/2021 16:31

@AnnPerkins

They're not trying to win support from the public, they're using us to hold the government to ransom.

Trouble is, the government can see that IB's disregard for ordinary people's livelihoods and lives and their arrogant, pompous, holier than thou attitude (and that of the people who support them) is making them so unpopular that they are destroying their cause. They have no chance of succeeding.

Not to mention the government isn't exactly renowned for giving a toss about your average person who's being disrupted by this.

If it doesn't affect the pockets of those making the decisions directly then it ain't gonna happen.

Alittlepotofrosie · 13/10/2021 16:45

I really want someone to give one of them a bloody good hiding.

CityMumma78 · 13/10/2021 16:49

They are imbeciles! How dare they stop normal folk from going about their business!! And what the hell are the police doing standing by and allowing them to cause this disruption!! They have also lost all credibility and the respect of the general public by pulling these stunts.

QueenBee52 · 13/10/2021 16:51

@EmeraldShamrock

Run the stupid fuckers over. This is the dangerous part, someone will lose their temper, they'll lash out and face serious consequences. The footage of driver's dragging them shows the frustration it is causing.

yip... its going to happen.. and the protesters will love it.. because they become victimised martyrs ..

KitchenKrisis · 13/10/2021 16:54

Absolutely hideous wicked people I'll never forgive people blocking ambulances, making people ill, having distraught relatives begging them to move and their impassive.
Terrible people. Infact I almost feel like tearing out my loft cladding in protest m

KitchenKrisis · 13/10/2021 16:57

They have absolutely no bloody idea who they are blocking... The apathetic person?
Sorry unless you give all the people held up by them a questionnaire and ask them their views you have no idea, and can't therefore say.. They are agitating apathetic people.

They could be causing anger among drivers who are behind the cause of general climate change, drive electric cars and probably have cleaner living lives than these pysco paths

generalh · 13/10/2021 17:08

Twats!?

LaikO · 13/10/2021 17:12

Awful people, I always worry they'll cause an accident and an innocent person will get hurt, or they'll traumatise a driver if they get run over after running out into the road. They've already caused enough damage by blocking ambulances and delaying people trying to get medical treatment.

mikedyson · 13/10/2021 17:14

Their protest is working though - they're upsetting the usually apathetic layperson so they are irritated enough to amplify IB's message. Protest isn't supposed to be convenient. Slavery didn't end because slaves asked their masters nicely.
Utter bollocks - no-one is going to be e-mailing their MP demanding that the government does what these twats want.

Mybalconyiscracking · 13/10/2021 17:17

Generally these people are just jealous because they don’t have the where with all to earn nice car sets. Give them a bit of cash and they settle into apathy like the rest of us.

Haven’t you heard of trustafarians?

Yes it would seem obvious, they aren't trying to drum up support they are trying to draw attention to their cause and as they are on the news every day it is certainly working.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/10/2021 17:38

the protesters will love it ... because they become victimised martyrs ...

Hence the smirks when they get hauled away, knowing there's every chance their mug will get onto the news to irritate a few more people

This is why I wondeed about shifting them with water cannons ... much harder to look self-satisfied when they're floundering about like a drowned rat

Neron · 13/10/2021 17:39

A bunch of hypocrites, especially the woman who's part of IB and ER, with (had) a 170k a year TFL Director husband Hmm

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 13/10/2021 17:41

Both.
It's a good cause but all their antics will do is piss people off. There are better ways to get support. You don't get cooperation and support by royally fucking people off

You get punched in the end. That's what you get.

They carry on like this and one day, someone will snap and run them over.

How does that make her a hypocrite? Do you think she can afford to insulate everyone’s home?

you honestly cannot see the hypocrisy in her stance and her husbands now ex job 🤣

Neron · 13/10/2021 17:51

How does that make her a hypocrite? Do you think she can afford to insulate everyone’s home?
Or maybe because her activism stops people from using one of the services her very senior husband works for? Or the fact she doesn't have to work and can sit on a road all day, stopping ordinary people from going about their day to earn money, whilst only dreaming of the sort of income her household has?

Skysblue · 13/10/2021 17:57

They’re mad. Attention seeking wankers with a wannabe-hero complex.

If we could solve climate change by lying down on a road, we’d all be doing that. If they care so much they should lobby legally / get jobs in appropriate industries and try to contribute to solving the crisis.

ScreamingMeMesaur · 13/10/2021 17:57

They're stupid arseholes.

Derbee · 13/10/2021 18:03

Bunch of wankers
