My son have shaved his head. His beautiful beautiful curls are no more. 😭

He's 21.
Hair grows back.
It's his hair.
Yes I am being ridiculous.
I'm also blatantly abusing AIBU so you can have a pop at me for that too. 🤣

My son two years ago on the day he got it all chopped off. I nearly cried. It is now just as long again (but he won’t let me take photos now! Grin)

It's a brave move as you don't really know if you have an unfortunate head shape until you shave your head. Anyway it'll grow back.

My brother shaved his head as a teen and found out he had a huge dent in his head. Turned out mum had dropped him down the stairs as a baby. He never did shave it again.

Carboncheque · 12/10/2021 12:57

At least he doesn’t have a lumpy head!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/10/2021 12:58

You are right, he has beautiful hair!

But also as pps have said, he has the right shaped head to carry it off. I can see the appeal in a hairstyle that involves no work whatsoever, although not brave enough to shave my own head! Grin

RedMarauder · 12/10/2021 12:58

If his hair is recently shaved rub your hands over his head as it feels oddly smooth and nice. Then keep doing it even when it doesn't feel so nice.

He will start growing his hair back so you don't keep rubbing your hands over his head. Wink

oakleaffy · 12/10/2021 12:59

Your DS looks 'Tougher' now, but shaven heads can suit many men.

My DS had his hair cut so short at a Barbers at 15 that I could have cried.
But then that is a mother's prerogative.

As you say, it grows back fast.

2bazookas · 12/10/2021 12:59

@ApolloandDaphne

Oh my. At least he will spend less time in the shower and use less shampoo now!
Delusion alert. Oh No He Won't.

Two sons have shaved/stubble heads (even the one with a terrorist beard)

A smooth head is a great asset for this shaven look.

@Mumdiva99

But what is your AIBU? You can't post here without a dilemma you know....Smile
aibu is she isnt happy about son's shaving his hair off
CounsellorTroi · 12/10/2021 13:10

I’m always curious as to why boys are allowed to have long hair, but girls/p with short hair are almost an abomination!

ElephantOfRisk · 12/10/2021 13:12

Aww OP, he may or may not grow it back.

DS shaved his off for charity a few months ago.

He actually suits it shaved but he's just letting it grow back in and it's a bit of a mess now.

His girlfriend did hers too and also suited it.

BeanyBops · 12/10/2021 13:12

I am going to be even more unreasonable and offer some unsolicited curly hair advice! His hair is obviously beautiful so not a criticism but he shouldn't ever brush it... Thats why PPs son (with pic) has lovely hair because he hasn't brushed the curls out! Son should try raking gel through it when soaking wet, leaving it to dry without touching. It will go all crispy and stringy - he then needs to 'scrunch out the crunch' literally scrunching it with his hands until the crispy look goes away. He will be left with beautifully defined glossy curls and will never want to shave it again! Just refresh with water in the morning. From one curly to another.

P.s. I will also cry when my daughter does this!!

Fizbosshoes · 12/10/2021 13:13

My DD cut her bum-length hair to shoulder length earlier this year after being trying to dissuade her for about 3 years! I was v unreasonable! Blush
I've got used to it and it looks amazing now im so jealous

Mantlemoose · 12/10/2021 13:14

YABU I have those curls. Ringket curls are cute on those under 10 no older. He looks amazing! Well done that son.

AdoptedBumpkin · 12/10/2021 13:14

Eh?? Confused where do you live?
MrsRussell · 12/10/2021 13:16

Oh god I bought some crimpers at the weekend (look, I'm a goth, it's in the job description. The more fucked off I get with work, the more goth I look to go there.)

The Junior Engineer looked me up and down. He's 11. He wants my biker boots and he wants to start crimping his hair.
I might add he is the keyboard player in the school rock band, so I may even let him that pair of leather trousers he's pestering me for....

MrsRussell · 12/10/2021 13:17

Let him have.
Cats have wrecked my backspace. Bastards.

CounsellorTroi · 12/10/2021 13:17

What does where I live have to do with anything? It does seem to me that it is compulsory for girls to have long hair these days.

RJnomore1 · 12/10/2021 13:17

He does have beautiful hair

He also has a nicely shaped head!

I only ever got upset about hair when dd2 gave herself a mullet as we were heading to school one morning. Two mm long fringe, cropped all over and left her shoulder length curls where she couldn’t reach at the back 😂

She was 6 though.

MrsRobbieHart · 12/10/2021 13:20

Where you live is relevant because I’ve never been anywhere that considers short hair in girls an abomination. Clearly you live somewhere that does. So I’m wondering where that is.
INeedToBuyaZoo · 12/10/2021 13:21

My other half has waist long red curly hair (thing Merida from Brave) and every time he talks about shaving it I have a melodramatic tantrum

friendhelp27 · 12/10/2021 13:26

You remind me of my mother OP. At age 16 I went from long hair to a number 2 shaved head. I stopped going to the hairdresser and went to a barber instead. My mother used to say I looked like I was out on day release from the local prison Grin
It does grow back though

CounsellorTroi · 12/10/2021 13:26

So how often do you see girls with short hair? I often had my hair short as a little girl and so did many of my school mates but I never see it now.

ElephantOfRisk · 12/10/2021 13:27

DS has mostly had long hair through childhood, his choice, but occasionally he just wanted it short.

One time we went to the barbers as he wanted "a short back and sides" when he was maybe about 8. We didn't go to the barbers very often as they generally wont cut/trim long hair.

Anyway, then we had a big manly turkish barber just about crying cutting of his long blond curls and he kept looking at me and asking if I was sure to which I deferred back to DS as it was his hair.

It grows back. Usually darker every time.
