Insulate Britain racist?

They're attacking London only (to an extent the wider south east but the assault is focused on London).

Their actions are hurting the most diverse city in the UK.

They didn't take their 'protest' to the power. Not a peep from them outside the Conservative Party conference in Manchester (yes, I know relatively diverse city but not so much as London). Nor anything in Brighton when Labour had their conference.

They are solely concerned with attacking the city where around 40% of the population come from abroad - including many vulnerable migrants.

Absolutely agree with this. It would be lucky to be a footnote in the main news if it was outside London. Just local news would really cover it.

Rubbish. Quite the opposite. London being attacked is old news. Happens all the time.

It would be huge news if it happened elsewhere.

"You bet the impact would be a million times greater if they had the guts to do it in their own backyards."

I may disagree with them but I think it's hard to argue that they haven't had an impact.

I'm hundreds of miles away from London and am aware of their protest. If it happened elsewhere then it is very likely only locals would have been aware rather than the national coverage they are getting. That's the impact. That's the point of protesting somewhere where you will get a lot of media attention.

ReeseWitherfork · 08/10/2021 18:55

How do you think those "CEOs living in the shires" get to work each day? You realise a massive portion are probably driving on the M25 right? They're not hitting inner city London, they're hitting commuter routes.

Wazzzzzzzup · 08/10/2021 18:56

Oh my fucking god you are infuriating

Tbh @cricketmum84 I think that's the wanted result here

You seem very out of touch.

The reality is London seems to think ( and the media agrees) that's it's the centre of the universe.

If it's stormy in London you can guarantee the whole country is aware.

Protests get more coverage. There has been climate protests locally to me - only in
Local news. No national coverage.

Mymapuddlington · 08/10/2021 18:58

You’re really grasping there.
Where I live they’d potentially stop about 2 cars and a tractor.

Biggest city = biggest chaos. Surely that’s obvious?

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 18:59

They are aiming to cause disruption, and have chosen the most disruptive places to do it

So they want to cause disruption to an extremely diverse population? Why? It won't affect those in power. They don't live there except temporarily part-time when popping in for work.

And like I said upthread, who will be hurt by the disruption they cause? The disadvantaged youth of London (who are suffering the highest unemployment hit after Covid). Why do Insulate Britain want to cause disruption to the underprivileged?

OP posts:
IfIHadAHeart · 08/10/2021 18:59

Do you think they'd be doing what they're doing in a leafy white shire?

I live in a leafy white shire. It would get no attention at all because it would cause no disruption (well, very little). Far fewer cars for starters, roads much less busy, plenty of other routes to take. Nothing at all like blocking the M25.

I’m not sure what you’re not grasping about this…

Mymapuddlington · 08/10/2021 19:00

Only the underprivileged, ethnic minorities and disadvantaged youth use the motorway then?

Fair point!
Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 19:01

You bet if they blocked major transport routes in a city or town outside of London it would get massive coverage. More than this. The novelty of somewhere other than London being attacked.

Patapouf · 08/10/2021 19:02

What an enormous reach.

Where does London rank in terms of most polluted city in the UK?

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 19:02

@Mymapuddlington

Obviously not. But it is those groups who are most harmed by the attack.

This is some first class trolling.
EvenRosesHaveThorns · 08/10/2021 19:03

Don't think they're going to make the news blocking the road to the village of Little Whingeing

It's not about affecting these in power. It's about news coverage. And that needs maximum disruption.
Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 19:04

@Patapouf

What an enormous reach.

Sheer numbers of people. Of course a sleepy rural village will be less polluted. What do you suggest Londoners do? It's not as if they can just move somewhere else. Aside from the anti London bigotry, there's the NIMBYs not wanting much needed housing built.
OP posts:
Mymapuddlington · 08/10/2021 19:04

How do you know that? You don’t.
You’re grasping at straws for no reason at all.

Bad stuff happens everywhere and nobody cares, it’s only when it’s in London that it makes headlines.

Sn0tnose · 08/10/2021 19:05

And like I said upthread, who will be hurt by the disruption they cause? The disadvantaged youth of London (who are suffering the highest unemployment hit after Covid). Why do Insulate Britain want to cause disruption to the underprivileged?

And are the unemployed and disadvantaged youth of London likely to be driving their cars on the roads these idiots are sticking themselves to?

FourTeaFallOut · 08/10/2021 19:05

The media is entirely London centric, some days you'd be forgiven for thinking only it had weather.

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 19:06

It's not about affecting these in power. It's about news coverage. And that needs maximum disruption.

Then why are they targeting those the furthest away from power? Those in power don't live in London, nor do they care about it.

Guaranteed they repeatedly blocked major roads in a different city or town, they'd be more coverage. Nothing new about it in London. London is attacked all the time.

OP posts:
Nancydrawn · 08/10/2021 19:11

Um, no, I don't think they'd get more attention for blocking a road in deepest Gloucestershire than blocking the M25.

They've protested junctions near Eynsford (97% white), Godstone (96% white), South Ockendon (86% white), and Leatherhead (94% white), amongst many others.

Again, plenty of reasons to dislike them. For those of us who care about the environment, their tragic, stupid, and pyrrhic tactics might be chief amongst them. But they're not out there targeting places based on race.

peewitsandy · 08/10/2021 19:12

Is this really a "Wind UP" with the O.P playing with the exceptional number of Woke people on here. There are a number of posters on here who would like to believe that "Green Grass" is racist and a construct of white Capitalists !

So op if this to highlight how at times, some people see wearing black shoes as racist then very well done. If you actually believe Insulate Britain to have racist intentions based on there targets, you really are a comedian.

However, what you do by claiming these as "Racist Actions" is dangerous to people actually affected by racist actions everyday.

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 19:12

@FourTeaFallOut

The media is entirely London centric, some days you'd be forgiven for thinking only it had weather.
Rubbish. The same old shit always trotted out.

London centric in what way?

I rarely see much, if anything, for example, about the very serious public health housing and homelessness emergency in London. And yes it's an issue everywhere but it is much worse in London. Two thirds of England's homeless families in temporary accommodation are in London.

Half of the media are in Manchester now anyway.

OP posts:
Winederlust · 08/10/2021 19:13

Bit of a reach there I'd say OP.
