Insulate Britain racist?

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 17:31

They're attacking London only (to an extent the wider south east but the assault is focused on London).

Their actions are hurting the most diverse city in the UK.

They didn't take their 'protest' to the power. Not a peep from them outside the Conservative Party conference in Manchester (yes, I know relatively diverse city but not so much as London). Nor anything in Brighton when Labour had their conference.

They are solely concerned with attacking the city where around 40% of the population come from abroad - including many vulnerable migrants.

@Tealightsandd

Rubbish . They are just picking London as its one of the busiest cities in the world and therefore it will cause most disruption, plus the most reported on area in the UK .

Plus I think you are crediting them with intelligence. Big mistake .

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 18:29

I'd guess, actually, that many members of Insulate Britain live in London or nearby.

Nope. Look them up. Only a handful live in London (and they too are generally from other parts of the UK).

They're from all over. Including the south west, Scarborough, and the mother and son who travelled from Manchester.

I suppose there's that saying. Don't shit on your own doorstep. I'd love to see the Manchester duo or Scarborough woman try it out in their home area. Bet their neighbours wouldn't be too impressed.

The very one Grin

Why ask if you’re not going to listen? Of course it’s not racist, they’re just trying to cause as much disruption as possible. London is the capital, the biggest city, where the pm lives and the royals etc
Plenty of places that are culturally diverse, Leicester and Birmingham to name two other cities.

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 18:32

It may not be intentionally racist but think about who will be harmed by their actions.

It won't be the privileged white middle class members of Insulate Britain. Nor will it be government or industry chiefs.

It's perhaps less about racism (although there is some because of the links to systemic racism) and more about attacking the poor and disadvantaged.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 08/10/2021 18:32

Wouldn't have quite the same effect in little Scarborough though, would it?

Sn0tnose · 08/10/2021 18:33

Ok so, not overt racists Or covert racists, you paranoid weirdo!

Anti Londoner cunts, yes Or, could it be because London is the largest city and therefore quite likely to be a) pumping out quite a bit of pollution, and b) more likely to be covered by the national press?

And just cunts full stop Fair enough.

Standrewsschool · 08/10/2021 18:35

“ London is the most ethically diverse in the UK”

Surely if London is the most ethnically diverse city in the Uk, they’re not being racist, as they are targeting everyone. Had they only been targeting ‘white’ towns, or black communities, then maybe you could have an arguement.

Sciurus83 · 08/10/2021 18:36

No.

Perhaps you're right. Not racist, just thick?

Thing is, it's not causing the most disruption. Not to anybody in power. It's only affecting everyday Londoners and nobody cares about that.

Why didn't they 'protest' outside the Party conferences?

How is it attacking the poor and disadvantaged any more than the rich and advantaged?

Too right. If they did it there, that really would get them attention.

In 2011 census London was the most diverse city with 40% of people being non-white. So 60% of white peoples are being disrupted in this situation.

However in 2020 Birmingham was the most diverse city with almost 50% non-white.

You can’t just shout racist when people are doing something you don’t like.

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 18:39

where the pm lives and the royals etc

Nope. He is only there for work. Weekends, leisure time, evenings too whenever he can manage, he's out of there. Likewise the royals.

Oh my fucking god you are infuriating!!

The video of the white woman earlier this year shouting at them in tears because her mother was in the emergency ambulance a few cars back.

The (white) paramedics trying to drag the protesters out of the way so they could get their critically ill patient through to hospital?

Racist???????

And the commuters travelling on the M25 none of them are white yeah?

Seriously you are idiotic and ridiculous.

Not one person agrees with you.

Go away. I'm muting you know before you really start to piss me off.

cricketmum84 · 08/10/2021 18:43

*earlier this week. Not earlier this year.

See, this is how much you are annoying me.

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 18:43

Why ask if you’re not going to listen?

But I have listened. I took on board comments. I still believe there is some (possibly unconscious) racism in their actions, but I'm now leaning towards the description a pp suggested - that they are common garden cunts.

@FourTeaFallOut

So why is Insulate Britain - a privileged group - attacking a very diverse city with huge amounts of deprivation

Because if they did it anywhere else it'd barely make the news.

Absolutely agree with this. It would be lucky to be a footnote in the main news if it was outside London. Just local news would really cover it.

Don't agree with their cause, but if I wanted maximum news coverage for my protest London would be where I would want to be

Spidey66 · 08/10/2021 18:44

Don't be daft. They're targeting London because by doing so it's causing as much impact as they can.

Idiots yes, but nothing they do screams racism.

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 18:45

Go away. I'm muting you know before you really start to piss me off.

Well Londoners are pissed off too. Including the mayor. Sadiq Khan, like the rest of London, is fed up of London being attacked.

There's no need to read or comment on threads you don't like.

I'm Black and think racism in the UK is rife but your reasoning is a reach way beyond the milky way.

@Spidey66

Idiots yes, but nothing they do screams racism.

That's not true though.

What impact? London gets attacked all the time. People don't care.

You bet the impact would be a million times greater if they had the guts to do it in their own backyards.

OP posts:
Orangejuicemarathoner · 08/10/2021 18:48

@Tealightsandd

They are targeting the London area because it will cause the maximum disruption and probably where they are local to.

Maximums disruption to who? Not those with power. Most government ministers and CEOs don't live in London. Part-time during the week, maybe, but back to the shires after work.

If they wanted to speak to those with power, why weren't they 'protesting' at the party conferences?

And no, most of them aren't local to London. One or two, yes, but not the others.

you have no understanding at all of who they are or what they are doing.

No, they are not "middle class" "privileged" etc etc as a group - some are, some are not. Many are retired, professionals and manual workers. Many are not white.

They are not trying to gather support - that is not what they are about

They are aiming to cause disruption, and have chosen the most disruptive places to do it

Orangejuicemarathoner · 08/10/2021 18:50

That's not true though.

They are having a massive impact. Just because you don't understand what is going on, does not mean it isn't happening..

AS for "guts" - what have you done which as shown as much guts as they are showing?

Tealightsandd · 08/10/2021 18:52

@VladmirsPoutine

I'm Black and think racism in the UK is rife but your reasoning is a reach way beyond the milky way.
Do you think they'd be doing what they're doing in a leafy white shire?

I bet they'd get much more coverage and attention if they did. Afterall, that's where government and finance CEO live.

But yes. I've taken on board comments here. Perhaps more cunts than racists.
