I feel like at 48, I have really started to age- creepy neck, a bit jowly, going a bit grey and not feeling great to be honest! I look after myself - don’t really drink as I see it on my face, wear nice clothes, nice hair etc but it’s becoming an effort ☹️ Wasn’t expecting it actually!! I always thought I looked pretty good for my age. I know it’s vain and I shouldn’t care but it’s just weird!!

My MIL is 90 and sharp as a tack, but definitely old - she’d tell your 72 your old mum that she’s very young

Ill tell her tomorrow. She will be delighted. She has found ageing very difficult this past two years.

I'm 65 and have just started breast cancer treatment, but I feel as fit as I did at 20, or 30 or 40. Told the outcome should be good and all my forebears lived long and healthy lives, so I am expecting to make 90-ish. Hopefully with most of my marbles intact. You have to be positive.

Namebunny · 14/10/2021 05:51

Good luck xingming.

TrueGrit54 · 14/10/2021 10:37

Best of luck XingMing, I admire your spirit.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 14/10/2021 11:22

I started going grey at 19 😫

Livpool · 14/10/2021 14:42

I feel like when I had Ds, who is now 6, when I was 35. I had PNA/D though and don't think that helped.

I am 41 now and don't think I look too bad

XingMing · 14/10/2021 16:23

Thanks @namebunny and @TrueGrit54!

NellePorter · 14/10/2021 16:26
  1. I'm trying to embrace it but failing miserably.
speakout · 14/10/2021 18:02

What is it about growing older that is bad?

Thepurpleturtle · 14/10/2021 18:03

When I had dd (36)

Frustrated1234 · 14/10/2021 18:20

45 - thought I’d hit bottom after my first non sleeping kid. How ever looking at photos now vs when he was a baby and not sleeping, I still look better then. It’s hard to put my finger on what, but it’s as if my face has sunken.

Lynne1Cat · 14/10/2021 22:11

I was mid-50s when I started to feel and look old. I had to stop wearing high heels due to Plantar Faciitis (very painful). I've always worn make-up, though, and always coloured my hair (now blonde instead of black).

Having said that, I wish I looked like that now - I'm now 62, have got terrible marionette lines (think ventriloquist dummy) and no wait, a gut, sagging tits. I'm recovering from Covid, Pneumonia (on a ventilator for 2 weeks) and a stroke (all inJuly) so I have to be thankful I'm still here.

Tarne · 17/10/2021 08:15

I don't look much different to when I was in my twenties as I have a good diet, have not gone grey yet, am the same weight, probably fitter now as I can swim or run a mile easily, I have taken up adult gymnastics so that I can do handstands and forward rolls again; I have lots of fun with my family and friends ; and love learning new things and have a very rewarding job.

There was a stage when I had a very negative outlook on life and when I changed that everything else seemed to change!

Far easier to grumble than to be proactive about changing what you can and learnt to accept what you can't.

Tarne · 17/10/2021 08:18

I am late 50s. So you are the age you feel I suppose after reading this thread. I think most people who have an older mindset have closed themselves off for doing anything proactive to change things for the better for themselves.

Tarne · 17/10/2021 08:23

I have just had my flu jab for the older 50s and there were loads of older people shuffling to the village hall to get it and I just ran there.

Maintain your mobility folks as best you can as even a little bit of extra weight can seriously affect your joints.

If you haven't taken up walking fast or jogging even for a little bit per day, please do so as your quality of life diminishes fast as soon as your balance and ability to move easily goes.

takemetomars · 28/10/2021 14:49

Early 50's. Until
Then looked young for my age

Itsallaboutyou666 · 28/10/2022 12:05

I've suddenly aged since March 2020 . Cant think why lol.

justasking111 · 28/10/2022 12:50

I managed through covid bar my back so chiropractor needed. Six eye operations later which meant no bending, jiggling for a month after each operation has aged me. I'm back with chiropractor, physio. And will swim when allowed. The months of inactivity and pain, eight so far really show

FlowerBrooch · 28/10/2022 13:14

@Tarne I am 56 and though I have slowed a bit due to a congenital spine issue that was always going to be a pain as I age I can still do a 10 mile walk, when I was really young I could do 20. Managed to cycle 18 miles a couple months ago. Volunteer at a community garden a couple of times a week and try to walk every day. My friend has started strength training and recommended this so am going to have a go at the very lowest entry level.

superplumb · 28/10/2022 15:24

37 when I had my 2nd son. Had my 1st son at 35 but those extra 2 years felt rough and I aged considerably

Supersimkin2 · 28/10/2022 20:40

44 - thyroid failed and I blew up like a blimp which hasn’t come off. Fatigue, pain and frailty are constants; I’m very fit tho, albeit fat.

You have to fight it when you have 0 energy or time, that’s the bitch about ageing.

idonotmind · 28/10/2022 20:43

I feel and look a lot younger when I'm slim

Makes me look 5/7 years younger

Jacketandbeans · 28/10/2022 21:28

I've always been very aware and terrified of ageing, so I noticed any tiny change. But it was at age 33 that I first cried in the mirror. I suddenly realised that I no longer turned the heads of twenty something's, or got ID'd, and I could see the beginnings of lines. I think I look OK for my age but I don't look as good as I did in my twenties. Reaching the point where I knew I was beginning to decline was really hard for me.

Ddot · 29/10/2022 07:02

Looked really young for my age, 47. Lost alot of weight due to an illness., didnt really recover my old face. Fast forward 11years lost one and a half stone due to complications from first operation and illness, size bloody 6. Let's just say I look like I'm wearing a skin bag and my face 😳 yuck (love a face mask) hopefully when I put some chunk back on, face will recover some of its beauty but I think not.
Judging by friends 40 you start to loose elastic,
50 you ache and sag,
mid 50s wrinkle abit and debate going grey but put it off for just a little longer. Pots and pots of cream that make you look 12 are rammed in a drawer.
You really dont appreciate how fabulous you are till it's going.

speakout · 29/10/2022 07:23

I don't feel ageing had caught up with me too much.
I do have wrinkles and my breasts soft and heavy, but I have a good skin care regime and diet, I am slim my skin is bright and glowing.
I do yoga every day, including 5 classes at the gym a week, my body hasn't changed a huge amount in decades, apart from stronger thighs and muscular perky glutes.
I am 60 btw.
I was at class this week and working beside another woman who is 58 also similar body shape, also an advanced practitioner. I remember thinking how she has the body of a 21 year old.
It is not an inevitable slide into creaky joints and pain.
None of my body hurts, I take stairs two at a time and can still do a fast sprint.
