I feel like at 48, I have really started to age- creepy neck, a bit jowly, going a bit grey and not feeling great to be honest! I look after myself - don’t really drink as I see it on my face, wear nice clothes, nice hair etc but it’s becoming an effort ☹️ Wasn’t expecting it actually!! I always thought I looked pretty good for my age. I know it’s vain and I shouldn’t care but it’s just weird!!

42 I began to see lines on top of my lines, overnight. It really was a case of 'what the fuck is that chin line that wasn't there yesterday?'

45 was more of the realisation that there is no bouncing back from this in the way that there is in the 30s. I can't just sleep it off. It's proper aging. There are lines, deep lines, that show up in places I never even knew you could have lines. My chin has taken such a beating in my 40s... lots of lines and peau d'orange. I'm very self conscious about this.

I'm 49 now and I'm settling into my older face... I am accepting the rapid decline that is the 40s. Grin But I know I'm about to slam into the 50s with as much grace as a giraffe on ice. I'm bracing for impact.

  1. How depressing!

I used to pass for late thirties for ages… I loved that. Then suddenly… WTAF?!!!

Almostwelsh · 07/10/2021 18:16
  1. Last year before complete Menopause. I looked younger than my age before then, but suddenly it all caught up with me and HRT hasn’t reversed it looks-wise, although it did rejuvenate my aching joints.
DustyMaiden · 07/10/2021 18:17

59 so I’ll just have to think myself lucky.

lindjam · 07/10/2021 18:18

I have always looked a lot younger than my years (due to medical condition).

However, since I turned 55 I suddenly look like women 5 years younger than me rather than ten or more years younger. I have jowls and my skin is really dull Sad It's not menopause that caused this as I went through that 7/8 years ago and still looked pretty good after.

It's all caught up with me

babybath · 07/10/2021 18:20

Depends who you're asking. Shortly after 27 I started go grey and could no longer handle two nights out in a row. That's when I felt like I was old / aging. In 10 years time I'll measure it in a Different way, and 10 years after that I'll measure it in another way

NCBlossom · 07/10/2021 18:22

We have to just get a great attitude I guess though don’t we? We haven’t time to mourn our youthful looks, we are just going to get worse and then health problems will mean looks are the least of our worries!

I’ve taken to exercising more and keeping my mind fresh, doing fun things with the kids. So even if I look old… sob… I feel a bit vigorous!

PupInAPram · 07/10/2021 18:23
  1. No aches, but my face is old!
speakout · 07/10/2021 18:25

Mid 40s, but now at hearly 60, I have been doing hard core yoga for several years , and my body is 25.

Me too 😳

Lockdown and menopause are doing me in 🙃

Ozanj · 07/10/2021 18:27

If you really hate it then get a cosmetic procedure. Life’s too short to stressa and get depressed about this type of stuff

ClafoutisSurprise · 07/10/2021 18:28

Oh dear. This was not the thread for me. Thinning hair has really got me down (understatement) over the last few years and is obviously to do with ageing. But I’m 41 and not a huge amount else has changed apart from a few more lines - it’s not cheering to think that it hasn’t even started yet.

If only I could do some sort of deal with the devil to swap other signs of ageing for thicker hair... I could live with that.

Daisydolly1986 · 07/10/2021 18:28
  1. I just feel older now, more delicate. More knackered and life has worn me down early
Greenmarmalade · 07/10/2021 18:30

It started at 35

Sootybear · 07/10/2021 18:31

Absolutely at 51, sometimes I don't look too bad but at certain angles, I look ancient. My body is ok, but my face is a bit saggy. I don't have wrinkles as such but I don't know what to do about the jowls and saggy eye lids.

Ozanj · 07/10/2021 18:32

Are you taking a multivitamin? Have you got tested for insulin resistance / pre-diabetes / thyroid issues? I only know I have hashimotos and pcos because I was infertile for a long time and it came up in testing but you might have them and not know - going low carb, taking thyroxine, and a multivitamin made my hair go from thin and broken to really thick and luxourious within a couple of months. So def worth a checkup with the Gp

  1. Everything seemed to collapse at that age.
2018SoFarSoGreat · 07/10/2021 18:36
  1. I had a back injury then a hysterectomy, so was rather ill for several months and my face collapsed entirely! it never recovered, and in fact got much worse quite quickly. Unrecognizable! I can't see 'me' when I look at pictures or in the mirror. Just an old lady :(
midsomermurderess · 07/10/2021 18:37

36/37.

KirstenBlest · 07/10/2021 18:39

Day 1

TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons · 07/10/2021 18:41

23 with aches, during pregnancy with DS1, about 43 with looks.

Butterflywing · 07/10/2021 18:41

You all sound passively declining! That's fine if that's what you want but it doesn't have to be inevitable.

I took the menopause and starting HRT as a kind of MOT for my health and well being.

Found out what the nutritional requirements are for a menopausal woman rather than count calories and upped the exercise and changed my job to one more rewarding.

I think if you put your physical and mental health and well being first you can get a new spring in your step.

If you aren't slim and fit by the menopause stage then let that be the focus.

Having body strength has never been more important especially as many of us may live to our 90s and beyond so it makes sense to be as fit and active as possible and surround ourselves with like minded people.

I don't feel any different than in my 20s , bar a few wrinkles. I am physically fitter and stronger.

A negative mindset is the biggest predictor to unhappy aging.

Briony123 · 07/10/2021 18:42

My older cousin had no children (but desperately tried and many late miscarriages so stress and hormones happened), a partner who did all the shopping and housework, a high salary and beautiful house. She had fair skin but always looked after it, never burned, used high quality products. Didnt drink too much, smoked the occasional cigarette until late 40s. Hit 58 and BANG, old. Her partner, much the same, suddenly looked old mid 60s. I reckon women age 10 years earlier than men. Problem is, when men age, they get that old man smell. Women just look a bit ropey, they don't get the smell too. I don't know how Amal can live with George. The old man smell...

Cruiser11 · 07/10/2021 18:45

Around 46/47 I started to get some jowls and looked a bit grumpy and knackered so I got fillers. I’ve had them once a year since then and I’m pleased with the results.
