Not a wish list btw.
I'm mid thirties and I think I will see the end of:
Petrol and diesel cars
Cows milk (majority drinking soy/oat)
Pork being eaten by most
Smoking (that's hopeful)
People casually throwing around comments about people's weight
Royal family
Legacy benefits :(
Landline telephones
Desktop computers
A lot of pubs :( :(

@TheSquashyHatOfMrGnosspelius

Boxing. Can't believe boxing still exists.

Contact sports for children.

I think nearly 70,000 people watched the recent boxing match in London at the Tottenham stadium and millions watched on TV - paid for as an addition not free with the Sky package so I think going by that you will have to live a really long time.
HarebrightCedarmoon · 07/10/2021 12:22

School trips have already ceased to exist, apparently.

vickyp0llard · 07/10/2021 12:25

Loads of people drink non-dairy milk - I stopped drinking milk when I became lactose intolerant. Suddenly my family noticed they all fart less, so now they don't drink dairy milk either, neither does my husband. You don't have to drink disgusting soya milk - oat, almond and coconut are all very nice.

onlychildhamster · 07/10/2021 12:27

@JudgeJ in purely income terms, middle class people would be people with disposable income to go on a holiday and afford enrichment activities for their children, able to save up to help their children out at university, able to afford luxuries like the gym and eating out regularly, likely to own their home, likely to have degrees and work in white collar jobs (of course tradesmen can afford all the above but they likely don't consider themselves middle class). I think they are shrinking in the sense that a lot of young people can't afford to buy their homes and a lot of families have very little disposable income for luxuries due to high childcare and high mortgage costs so have as little disposable income at the end of the month as a poorer person. Certainly in London, I am one of the few 'middle class' people my age (in their 20s) who can afford to buy a flat and not paying outrageous rent. The other people I know, I would classify as upper middle class/affluent or their parents are (parents buy them houses) The middle class would be going the way of the dodo in a lot of parts of london- it would just be the rich and the poor (who can hopefully rely on benefits to pay rent if such things exist in the future).

whynotwhatknot · 07/10/2021 12:28

i do agree about the poor flat faced dogs and cats its bloody cruel

I think several large species will go. We're currently living in the 6th mass extinction event (caused primarily by humans), but most haven't really noticed and they won't until things like rhinos, tigers, cheetahs, elephants start to go.

Sadly I don't think rhinos will make it, some sub species have already gone, others are too few in number to be robust enough to survive.
When I studied ecology at university, I read that cheetahs are no longer genetically diverse enough as a species to survive and that was 20 years ago. Sad

If bees go we're all fucked.

I think we'll see a return to deaths from infections due to antibiotic resistance. They were a remarkable discovery that have saved countless lives, but we've taken them for granted and squandered them for profit.
Between they're constant low level use in factory farming, to them being available to by over the counter in some countries and people demanding them for viruses and/or not completing the full course they're given, more and more are becoming useless.
So I think routine operations etc. will become much riskier for us all due to infections that we won't be able to treat.

Probably not in my lifetime but I think the grandchildren of current children will be astounded that at the thought of putting petrol/diesel in cars and having to drive them Grin

Zilla1 · 07/10/2021 13:15

Safe surgery if antibiotic resistance isn't addressed. So no hip replacements for example. Let's hope stem cell therapies perfected.

elbea · 07/10/2021 13:16

@ThreeLittleDots but even if you aren’t physically drinking cows milk you are still propping up the livestock industry, vegan or otherwise.

I bloody hope so.
ChrissyPlummer · 07/10/2021 13:37

@ThreeLittleDots

Why milk? Apart from the two vegans I’m acquainted with no one I know doesn’t drink milk, nor would they countenance anything else

We're a non-vegan household and mainly eat vegetarian. Even reluctant husband now refuses to have cow's milk in his coffee after becoming aclimatised to a nicer non-dairy alternative

Fair enough. I’ve never found the non-dairy alternatives nicer at all. They just aren’t ‘milky’ enough, I like a very milky brew! It was suggested to me a few years ago to pack in dairy to deal with eczema. After about an hour, I gave up. Everything (tea, cereal) was devoid of any joy for me.
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/10/2021 13:38

I'm hoping single use plastic commercially (such as drinks, shampoo bottles, food packaging etc).

ChrissyPlummer · 07/10/2021 13:39

Think that ship sailed a few years ago @MartyParty.

onlychildhamster · 07/10/2021 13:42

'work clothes'

I think that it will be perfectly acceptable to turn up even at law firms and investment banks in jeans and a nice top in future. There wouldn't be a fixed dress code, just that you look clean and not scruffy.

Suits would probably only exist for black tie and weddings and in the House of Commons.

I can't wait-*looks at my wardrobe full of comfy flowery flowy dresses. I hate formal clothes with a passion.

I was like this, then we tried Oatly Barista / Oatly Whole Milk - full of oil so very 'milk-like'

I'll shut up about this now though as I'm not advertising for them!

Almond milk is really unenvironmentally friendly unfortunately, the demand is causing a huge monoculture in california and the need for water is massive.

Can’t wait for the break up of the UK

WomanStanleyWoman · 07/10/2021 13:54

I wonder if the people hoping for a return to a ‘simpler life’ with less reliance on technology are the same ones who use their phones to post memes on Facebook about how the world was much better when we weren’t all addicted to our phones and Facebook…

Speaking of Facebook, I’m surprised so many people think its days are numbered. I know the likes of Bebo have fallen by the wayside, and MySpace has essentially become a different product, but all this happened when social media was relatively new, with the potential for ‘disruptors’ to make an impact. Facebook has seen off the competitors mentioned and more; Twitter is in decline; there really isn’t the space for an alternative to break through. Look at Microsoft - Windows/Office can be a nightmare to use, but there hasn’t been a sudden upsurge in potential competitors.

NumberTheory · 07/10/2021 14:01

@SummerOrAutumn

All those saying landlines/home phones - do you have excellent signal where you live? We don't. My mobile doesn't work indoors, no signal at all - have to walk up to end of garden or road to make/receive a call. Not exactly private, when neighbours can hear me on phone to whoever.

So if landlines are to become obsolete, we need a much better signal available for those of us who live in the countryside, not near a town.

Our mobiles use our broadband when we’re at home as our signal is no good. We don’t have a landline.

Almond farming is terrible for the environment...

Yeah, rugby. Or at least what we know now as rugby.

Still much better than dairy

ragged · 07/10/2021 14:43

Clay shooting is growth business around me. Don't see it going.

MoreStuffingMatron · 07/10/2021 15:19

Beef and diary farms (replaced by sheep grazing underneath banks of solar panels).

Kids carrying a load of textbooks to school. They will be online instead.
